What is your own Top 10 list of Doctor Who Target book covers? What do you think of my choices in this first video? Tell me here. I would also love to hear your general memories of Target books. What do they mean to you?
Can't believe it has taken so long for YT to produce your post! Curse of Peladon was the first Target I ever bought, way back in 1978, when they were 40p each, although I had read several beforehand. The Cybermen was the second! LMAOd when you came up with Mawdryn Undead! What were they on in that photo era lol? Gotta say I thought the Roger Delgado portrait in the Doomsday Weapon reprint was magnificent.
Probably the two doctors I just love that cover with the two Tauruses revenge of the Cybermen and of course invasion of the dinosaurs was one of the first Doctor Who books I ever owned and the brand of morbius I have it signed by Taryn dicks
I don't have a ranking but The Auton Invasion (orig.), Day of the Daleks (orig.), The Cybermen (neon logo), Keeper of Traken, Carnival of Monsters, Pyramids of Mars (neon logo), Planet of Evil (neon logo), Inferno and Marco Polo are standouts. The Mutation of Time is also memorable
Some of my faves: Dalek Invasion of Earth (movie spaceship and Roboman, but that's OK, I'm not fussy and they look STUNNING) Frontios: Love how the monster feeler weaves through logo. :-)
I didn't grow up on these books but my brother bought me a pile of them for Christmas a couple of years ago. I started with Doctor Who and the Zarbi, terrific fun.
Thanks for the link. :) So far, so very good - I see you have a taste for the earlier days of the range (which is no bad thing!). I can't do an Top 10 off the top of my head but I do have a favourite, which has not yet appeared. Will its sticky presence be felt in your Top 5? I will go and see...
1. The Three Doctors 2. Dalek Invasion of Earth 3. Giant Robot (2nd version, 1979) 4. The Seeds of Doom 5. Logopolis 6. The Ice Warriors 7. The Cybermen 8. The Five Doctors 9. An Unearthly Child 10. The Claws of Axos - it could be a completely different list tomorrow though. Great video!
@@AlanAntimatter Ah, cool! Cheers Alan, it's nice to be remembered. 😀 You'll be glad to hear that I'll soon dedicate a video to telling an old anecdote from the Kerrang! days... :) Oh, and you might also be interested in this: www.jasonarnopp.com/frontlines.html 🤘
Decent choices there Jason. I prefer the earlier 70's jackets rather than the 80's ones. The photo covers are the worst though! All time favourite, for me, I think, The Daleks or The Sea Devils.
Talk about disappointed. Those Daleks on the cover of the Target publication, Dr Who and the Destiny of the Daleks look far more fascinating than what the BBC dished up on the televised version of the story in 1979. Much more metallic and menacing in that dust storm with Tom Baker's face up above the art work Jason. You may think differently. I'll have to go with The Five Doctors cover. I always remember visiting WH Smith's in Aldershot, and seeing that wonderous sliver cover beckoning me over. It started a love affair with Doctor Who that's continued. All thanks to that shiny silvery cover....
Hi John! It's certainly true that the Target covers often made monsters and/or effects look a fair deal better than they actually did on the screen! Mmmm, yes, the Five Doctors cover is a shiny delight! Definitely has a special feel about it and I can see how that would have kickstarted your lifelong Who-love!
Those Davison photo covers were generally awful weren't they? I have a soft spot for some of the Seventh Doctor Target covers - Ghost Light & Survival in particular. I also quite like The Horror of Fang Rock & The Invisible Enemy for being very Tom.

Love the cover for Doctor Who and the Ice Warriors as well as the Web of Fear.
Hi there Harold! Yes, they're so very lovely. :) Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

Oh and all the early Hartnells and Troughtons naturally. And the Doomsday Weapon!
Excellent selections, Anthony - thank you! 😊👊

Hey Carl! So sorry for somehow missing this comment four whole months ago! Nice choices of Target cover. :)

Lovely stuff, Marc. Zarbi is a really lovely cover!

Hooray, glad you're enjoying it so far! I don't entirely know why I did this in two parts. Guess I thought a half hour video would be too long... 🤔
1. The Three Doctors
2. Dalek Invasion of Earth
3. Giant Robot (2nd version, 1979)
4. The Seeds of Doom
5. Logopolis
6. The Ice Warriors
7. The Cybermen
8. The Five Doctors
9. An Unearthly Child
10. The Claws of Axos - it could be a completely different list tomorrow though. Great video!
Cheers Alan - top choices! I'd forgotten about the second version of Giant Robot. Collecting Target books is quite a complex business!
@@jarnopp Loving your channel, right up my Street. I remember you from Kerrang! 😀👍

@@AlanAntimatter I'm still working on it! There may be a video update at some point...
Doctor Who and the Zarbi is a pretty cool cover.

Thanks Jules! Yes, those photo covers are, almost without exception, the Devil's work. Nice choices from you, there!
GREAT COVERS LIKED AND SUBBED1 THANK YOU
Awesome, thank you Chris! Glad you enjoyed.

I have to agree, Tony: the photo covers are very much a dark era in Target history! Nice choices from you, though. Thanks for stopping by!
