- Back to the old past to Jewish history. Mea Shearim is one of the oldest Jewish neighborhoods in Jerusalem. It is populated by Haredi Jews, and was built by members of the Old Yishuv. The oldest Sephardic Haredi dynasty.

The speed of your walk and the interruption which happened during your filming make us remember that filming in Me'a She'arim can be sometimes pretty challenging. My guess is that you did not venture there during Shabbat : Am I Right ?
Interestingly, you mentioned that this part of the town of Jerusalem was built by members of the Old Yishuv.
However, today, one can observe that the ancient dress code of these Haredim, that used to be much more colourful, has been progressively abandoned, halas, for that black and white uniform copied from the Eastern Europe Hassidim communities : I feel sad about that, since the coat of many colours of Joseph, recalled the many tribes which constituted the People.

Here I have walked many times even been invited to eat a shabbas-meal with one family of Toledot Aharon, many year ago. It was an unexpected experience that I have in my memories. A fantastic culture area. Everyone have to visit and walk and feel the atmosphere.
My Family Settled In Mea Shearim in late 1800's- My Father left the community in 1952 at the age of 16 -to join the IDF...I have wonderful memories visiting my Hasidic grand parents in Mea Shearim throughout the 1970's a very special place this is........B'h

My family also settled there but arrived at the beginning of the 19th century!
I also have wonderful memories of visiting my grandparents in the 1970s. (My parents took me to Israel a few times as a child)
My father left immediately after the 6-day war and came to New York where he eventually met my mother.
Ironically two years ago my parents made Aliyah & are living in Jerusalem now.

as a young newyork boy at 13,august 1972,came for the first time and continued my visits till spring 1976 as a yeshiva student in petach tikvah.the connection to family and friends has continued till this very day as new generations has replaced the old.

No kidding! Yes no way on Shabbat for sure. I would never film in this area on any given day because some Haredi wouldn't like it. He is so brave!! Shavua tov!

I was hoping you would walk through some of the many little lanes and alleyways off the main streets. They show the true character of the real Me'a She'arim. Those wide streets with buses could have been anywhere in the city.
