Both were true competitors and both came out of the '83 NFL draft. Pittsburgh should had drafted Marino but thought Terry had a few more years left. Elway went out on top after back to back Superbowl wins!
@@daviclar867 It was more the Rooneys didn't want Marino (who grew up in Pittsburgh) to be under all the pressure of replacing Bradshaw in his own hometown. The Steelers royally f'd up.
With Brady and Ben retiring it’s the end of an era that I started watching football (including Manning bros, Brees, Rivers, Romo, Vick, Favre, McNabb, Palmer, Smith, Cutler). A lot of HoF potential. But that 90-00 would have been hard to watch. To see the end of Montana, Kelly, Aikman, Elway, Moon, Young and Marino? All HoF Qb. Not to forget HoF Rb like Dickerson, Sanders, Davis, Jackson, Allen, and Thomas (and Hershell Walker). Hard to watch? Now add WR Reed, Monk, Irvin, Lofton, Ellard, and Rison. Top it off with Newsome at TE. I didn’t start watching football until my 7th grade (2007 season), but within that first year I had already heard about all these players. That was an era.
Starting watching around 2011 iirc but I wasn’t avidly watching, recognized bit of these names as well. (many of em just by name not how they played) Pure pain.

*Sees Earl Campbell TD "I didn't know Earl Campbell played for the Saints" "And that's Earl Campbell's first TD in a Saints uniform" "Oh maybe that's why"
Some of these were PERFECT little snapshots to sum up their careers... Brady bombing it down field, Namath showing that he still threw one of the prettiest balls of all time, Barry's amazing run making people miss, Jerry Rice's one handed catch, Randy Moss' Go-Route, Larry making an amazing catch that most other players would drop, Chris Carter's one hander that showing he had some of the best hands ever, and Vernon Davis one of the fastest TE to ever play. Fantastic video!
That period from 99-00 was so interesting. So many of the great qbs from Elway,Young,Aikman,Moon etc all retired and it was before Brady/Manning really became forced in the league.
Great video and wonderful pairing/theming of the TDs as well. It's amazing how many old guys the Patriots were able to bring to the fold over the years LOL! Oh and the video quality on some of the old games in this video is out of this world!
Many legends went out playing a year or two for a different team than the one they were famous for being with, and they generally didn’t go out on the top of their game. So the moral seems to be retire with your team, don’t try to extend your career one year too long somewhere else. Brady of course destroyed both of those prevailing trends. He did better in his two years with Tampa than he did in his last two years in NE. Sanders is also notable, he didn’t lose a step, just got tired of playing for a team that wasn’t going anywhere. Interesting thought on Favre in particular, the Falcons drafted Matt Ryan in 2008. What if they had picked up Favre (who they originally drafted), and had Ryan sit behind him for a couple of years? The Falcons were a playoff team in 2008 with Ryan as a rookie, would be interesting to see what Favre could’ve done with them.
Wow, I never really thought about that what-if! You've really got me thinking now... which is bad because I should be going to sleep right now xD If I were to take a wild guess I'd say it'd be rather similar to what he did for Minnesota, since the Falcons and the Vikings are about on the same level historically when it comes to postseason heartbreak. (Not to mention Favre himself dropping the ball from time to time.)
I wonder how it felt to be the one handing the ball, throwing the ball, catching the ball form the guy that had his last nfl td,respect goes out to all those players
Damn. Watching the greats and their throwing mechanics and footwork is surreal. That being said I think Montana had a way of moving that was so much fun to watch.
@@ntgr87 I don’t blame him!! The way he moved was so powerful and purposeful. He didn’t waste any energy on superfluous movement. Just take your steps and throw by the time you’re done.

Agreed. Coming from a bears fan. There's a few questionable players on this list I would never refer to as "legends" ( I'm looking at you the hardest, Jeremy Shockey).
