The Snow Arch Greenhouse Build Part 4 Framing the Steel End Walls
Вставка

- In this video I will show you how to construct the end wall kit for the 30' X 96' Snow Arch. FYI, Just because it says kit doesn't mean that everything is cut to length. Every house will be different given the terrain that it sits on so every piece of 2"x 2" piece of tubing must be cut to length. Thanks again for following along!
Oh boy, I'm starting to get itchy, and can almost see greenery going into it! This is so great. To watch you step by step, and I want you to know, that it is really, really appreciated too. Your hard work, and I mean HARD work, is starting to finally pay off. I can see it so much better now that the ends are in. Those fans are monsters! Wow that's big! It's so strong too. I'm amazed at this building. I hope that you will soon get to enjoy all the work you have done, it will be so nice to see the first "Green" go in. Ok, any color thing go in, as long as it's a living plant. LOL I'm amazed every time I see this, and how much of a blessing this is going to be for you and your family. Joy, joy, joy! Bless, Sheila
+Sheila6325 Thank you so much Sheila. I look forward to seeing your replies to my videos. Your supportive words make me want to get up right away and go out there and do some more. I just have to remind myself that I am at my "day job" and cannot just leave and continue to get a paycheck! lol
I too cannot wait to get something growing in there! Thank you again sister!
God Bless you and your family!
Chuck
Fensterfarm Greenhouse Just as our Lord says. "There is a time for everything" work, play, more work! LOL I do get excited when I see your videos, It reminds me to hang in there. Thank you for that. God Bless you and your family too.
I am exhausted just watching you work Chuck! It's really taking shape with that end framed out. Really nice work.
+FesterWerks I say that I will rest when it's done but it's never really done! :-)
Chuck
Chuck you sure know how to put that baby together and up! Nice video. Everything is looking a-ok right now, good to go!
+Rivet Gardener Thanks John. It's coming along nicely. I am chomping at the bit to finish the construction part!
Chuck
I bet! That video was a bit on the long side but sure demonstrated all what is involved and your hard wok. Wow. Have you given the thought of putting up more durable sides, maybe 3 or 4 feet up from the ground along the length of it? I'm thinking wood and maybe brick facing? Just curious. I am following your project Chuck, 'cause you are doing stuff i would like t but can't!
+Rivet Gardener I have not thought of siding it but may do that on the next one I build. I have to be careful with this one since I already have better than 17,000 dollars into it and my wife would probably beat me with any siding that I bought for it. I will be using the old greenhouse materials to build another one sometime next year and may do something like you speak of there.
Chuck
Wow! That's a lot of bucks, Chuck! Thanks for the quick response. All our best to your project from the misses and me over here biddy!
Your greenhouse looks amazing! Your doing a great job!
+April Owens Thank you April. I am chomping at the bit to finish it now.
Chuck
+Fensterfarm Greenhouse Your getting there. I am so glad that your putting this experience on UA-cam. It allows other gardeners see a variety of views. What a great experience. Can't wait to see the finished greenhouse.
Looking good buddy! May that greenhouse serve you for the next 30 years :)
+Life with Luke! - FOXG1, Autism, Special Needs I am hoping it serves me and my children for a long time my friend! God bless !'Chuck
What an amazing achievement. Well done Chuck. You must feel very proud of yourself. You certainly should. You are nearly at journey's end my friend, not long now until you will have a wonderful greenhouse. All the best.
+Aaron's allotment I could get it done in the next two weeks if the weather cooperates! Thanks for following my progress Aaron!
Chuck
THANK YOU! my "kit" came with just as vague framing directions.. this video is a lifesaver. hoping to frame @ least the studs of my endwalls today!!!
also, i hate the tek screw!
Funny that you say that Alice. I am framing my endwalls on my #2 greenhouse today. I will probably be framing the 2 endwalls on #3 this weekend if it doesn't rain!
So glad it is helping out. My instructions were so bad when I bought that greenhouse that I knew that if I documented the process it would help out the next guy/gal that bought one!
Have fun with the process. Owing a greenhouse is the bomb!
Chuck
So huge! Can't wait to see what you can do with that thing!
+dirtpatcheaven Me too! :-)
Chuck
Wow, that is allot of work. But, I am so happy to see you get the new green house going up.
+TheEmptynester I am so close that I can almost taste the veggies that will come out of there!
Chuck
I can only wish to have a greenhouse built that big and strong. I definitely would love to plant everything in it :-) Sir you and your wife deserve the best harvest from that greenhouse when that time come. I, of course will be watching and cheering you on :-)
+Cultivating Organic by greenwiseJo Thank you so very much Jo! I am eager for the growing time that you spoke of! :-) Thank you so much for the support my friend.
CHuck
Chuck: You are really making progress now! Looking forward to seeing it finished. Keep on plugging! Bernard
+navajopa31 Thanks Bernard. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter every week!
Chuck
Can't wait! It's looking really nice.
+Silvermoonacres Thanks. It is looking good and I am an impatient man, so I am chomping at the bit to finish it now! lol
Chuck
I love the parts when the energy drink kicks in ; ) Looking good Chuck!
+Keyplayr61 Greenhouse Hydroponics And Gardens I wish I could actually find that energy drink. I guess I just need to follow my grand kids around to see where they are getting it from? lol
Chuck
+Fensterfarm Greenhouse - those drinks are now outlawed for us older types.
David Dube LOL...Yeah, I would have to believe that for sure with this backwards thinking society of today! Of course the kids need the energy, not us old folks ; )
Wow, very nice greenhouse.
It's looking great!
+naplescajun Thank you NC
Chuck
Migty fine job. You sure do good work.
+bevyh1 Thank you for the kind words and support Bev!
Chuck
Wow, that is amazing! So huge! I'm scared of heights so I kept thinking you might fall off of that scaffold. When the video speeds up, it appears to wobble. I was thinking "HOLD ON!" :)
+Rainbow Gardens The sacffold does wobble a little bit but it is much more stable than that ladder was! :-)
The last video on the build series for the exterior part of the greenhouse will come out on Thanksgiving day!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Chuck
Fensterfarm Greenhouse I bet! Ladders can be very dangerous!
This is so amazing, it is really big. I know you have a plan for it's use. even though you might not have time to get it planted this year, it is really impressive to watch you do this. Can't wait to see what you plant though.
+DonnaldaSmolens Thanks so much for following along in this process Donnalda!
Chuck
Nice work Sir... but boy.. what a lot of work. Cheers!!
+Jim Conner You've got that right Jim. I am putting that old saying to the test..... "What doesn't kill you will make you stronger"! We will see?
Chuck
Very impressive, Chuck! I have to laugh when I think of my little greenhouse compared to that monster. ;-)
+OneYardRevolution | Frugal & Sustainable Organic Gardening My first greenhouse was about the size of yours Patrick, however yours is built MUCH better than mine was at that time Are you planning to paint the PVC or insulate it from the greenhouse film somehow?
Chuck
+Fensterfarm Greenhouse Yes, I'll cover the pipes with white duct tape.
+Fensterfarm Greenhouse Funny you should say that. I'm also using gorilla tape.
You're right about the Tek screws, Chuck. Although they are great fasteners, a hammer drill or impact driver is almost an essential tool to install them.
I kind of wish I had gotten the metal end-wall frames. I wanted to do wooden ones simply because I am far more familiar working with wood and did not need the extra strength. Whereas your metal square tubing is always straight, I quickly learned to only buy (from the big orange or big blue home supply) the wood that I could use in the next day or two. If I tried to store it (even indoors) for more than a couple of days it became warped, twisted, bowed or otherwise unusable! I've installed my personnel door three times because the wooden frame warped and the door either would not latch or could not be opened.
I hope you have been keeping up with the manhours of you and helpers. I think you are going to have far less hours in your bigger and stronger hoop house than Cheryl and I did (and we're STILL not finished!) I must complement you on the efficiency of how you work.
+ItsyFarm I believe that if you factor the age/hour worked factor into the equation we are pretty close. I am 54, my bride i under 50 (we'll leave that one there) and both of my boys ate under 23.
I am very happy that I went with the steel end walls. I only wanted to do this one time. I notices that when I took my old one down that some of the treated wood was termite infested. They went into the wood through the cut end of the lumber. It appears that if the lumber isn't treated completely through those little boogers still eat it. I was going to have to rebuild those end walls in a few years anyway.
Chuck
You are making progress. It a good structure. Pity you don't have any to operate the camera. Looking forward to part 5
+Patrick Meehan We live out in the country Patrick so most of the time my boys are in town, either at work, school, or with girls during the daylight hours. :)
Thanks for following the build my friend!
Chuck
The best I've seen
Thanks so much! I really appreciate your support my friend!
Thanks for following along.
Chuck
GOD BLESS YOU @@FensterfarmGreenhouse
Francis gonsalves and God Bless you as well!
Thanks again!
Chuck
I am a fan of the screws so i don't have to predrill :) and keep switching out drill bits and such. But when you have to drill that many holes i don't think anyone likes any kind of screws :) The ends look like they came together very well!
+Benja's Uber 1337 Hobby Thank you Benja. So far so good. I believe that this should hold up very well.
God Bless!
Chuck
God bless you too! Thanks for sharing :)
Can really see this coming together, it's looking good. You've mentioned the tech screws a few times, I've never used them, but what is it you don't like about them?
+Alan Williams Thank you Alan. The TEK screws are not easy to push through the metal. I have a torn labrum in my shoulder and screwing those TEK screws in is killing that shoulder. lol In addition the metal shavings that come from the screw cutting into the metal is red hot and sharp. What doesn't cut you will burn you.
Chuck
Nice job Chuck😄👍🏻
Very well constructed and the will last a long long time.
It is worth the time and effort getting things located correctly.
How many charges per day on the DeWalt drill?
Cheers.......Nigel
+MuddyBootz Thank you Nigel. I hope that this last long enough for my great grandkids to use it.
I have 2 batteries and they last about an hour of constant use.
Chuck
I like the yellow levelling gizmo did that come with the kit. When I see how solid that clay soil is it's amazing that you are able to plough and grow crops in it. It's a lot of work but you must have a great feeling of accomplishment at the end of each day. Funny I was just going to say how much work the self tapping screws save. LOL Getting closer to have it closed in everyday. I notice a hoop leaning against the fence did they supply an extra or does that get used later on?
+Dale Calder I bought the post level at Lowes Dale. I love that thing. Much easier than that big long level that I had. I have a torn labrum in my shoulder and screwing those TEK screws in is killing that shoulder. lol
The hoops against the fence rail belonged to the old greenhouse. I had never used them so therefore I never moved them when I took the old greenhouse down.
Chuck
Looking great ~ I'm thinking you mentioned having 2 guys helping?? Will you place a couple of posts halfway just in case? You know, "hope for the best and prepare for the worst'. That was how folks lived in New England when I grew up. It drives my wife crazy but hey...
+David Dube (Oregon Gardening) I am not planning on putting any posts in the middle for the purpose of support but I will be putting structure somewhere near the middle for my hydroponic /aquaponic systems. Those structures will certainly lend support to the greenhouse structure should it need it.
I have 2 boys that have helped me along the way when I have needed them.
Chuck
is this the green house that you took down or did you buy a new one or just new hardware? well thier way it is still so exciting having something like this is my dream part of are personal ministry is to help to food banks in the future i had my first garden last year needless to say i did a lot of things wrong but i did learn a lot of what not to do lol may God continue to bless you sir
iwantosavemoney this Greenhouse is the one that collapsed from a big snow and ice storm years ago. I have 4 greenhouses this size now. I am currently building 3 of them
put magnet in pocket screws on outside of pants in hand save some time sweet job wonderful build
Oh yeah! End walls are looking good! Are you doing electrical be for or after plastic?
+Butch Mazza After plastic. I am trying to do this by the book but the book is so poorly written I am doing a lot of it from talking to the techs at Atlas on the phone.
Chuck
Just bought a tmg greenhouse, what did you use for footings? There is no how to video
What’s a TMG greenhouses? I don’t really have footings with my greenhouses. I do use concrete for posts on the endwalls though. Hope that helps?
Chuck
@@FensterfarmGreenhouse just the name brand. Its a high tunnel greenhouse
Where did you get the material and how thick and how expensive is it?
It's a tube steel that I purchased as part of a kit from Atlas greenhouse manufacturing. I had to cut them to fit my needs though.
Chuck
chuck, your hard work and attention to detail puts me to shame. still can't wait to see how you get the cover on, can you hurry up please ;-)
+Peter Edwards Ha ha.. I sure wish I could Peter! Thanks for following along my friend!
Chuck
Where did you order your greenhouse from?
Atlas greenhouse manufacturing out of Georgia.
Ask for Stephany and tell her I sent you.
Chuck
Nice!... I only commented because you asked me to.... I did mean, nice!
Woodglut comes with very useful plans with all the details you need.
