      Basketball Examined great vid but I think you're understating and over simplifying LeBron's game. We're in an extremely deep, hyper competitive era and LeBron's been the best player in the NBA for over a decade.

      Goofy8907 The triangle offense is designed so more players participate in the offense as a playmaker. And Phil Jackson designated Scottie Pippen as the primary ballhandler to initiate that offense with Jordan functioning as the primary scorer. If you want to see what it would look like for Jordan to be in a LeBron-type offense where the entire system ran through him, check out the Bulls 1988-89 season where he averaged 32.5/8/8 and got knocked off in the Eastern Conference Finals by the "Jordan rules" Piston.

  • @devvv4616
    @devvv4616 5 років тому +25

    True. Even MJ ran the triangle and moved alot offball. He would be even more effective if he used his gravity offball to help his teammates, he'd get alot of easy baskets too. MJ giving in to the offense and actually understanding its strengths made him even more successful, individually and as a team. The team has more options, and the defense are forced to shut down these other options while MJ got to pick his spots, instead of the simple isolation offense, which is basically what the Rockets also do with Harden now. Sure it's still very effective, enough to get him 3 rings and dominate the East, but on the level of GOAT discussions, it hurts his resume. The MJ led Bulls, even the 80s Lakers and Celtics were fun to watch because they genuinely played as a team, like the dynasty Warriors. That ability to lead a "team" adds to the greatness of GOAT contenders.
    Only Kyrie really benefited individually from having Lebron because they basically ran, your turn/my turn Lebron system, and Kyrie is just a great isolation player.

      That's why at the time of the true need for a team, he's alone, because he carries everything, he's the center of everything, no team work, no coaching....by the way, he's a bad GM, he makes all the teams he's in to hire players that in the end won't help him much....he needs a "yes sir" coach and a "yes sir" teammate

    • @thetrib1
      @thetrib1 6 років тому +2

      to do what very few have done... let me get this straight.... he is a bad coach(system), GM, and won't maximise his playing ability because he is ball dominant... and he was in 8 straight finals? what the hell are the other coaches and GM's doing? I don't want to hear that bs about "weak east" there are 14 teams in the east... why couldn't they stop this from happening... hm I wonder? maybe because people are forgetting that a system where the best player gets the ball as many times as possible is a good one! and being the best player maybe of all time... maybe you should have the ball the most? just a thought

      He has one legit mark on his resume.... but so does Jordan, Bird, Magic, and Kobe... only the bigs dominate regardless of circumstance.... Kobe in a few playoff series shot under 40% and played horrible as the best player in his last finals appearance... Bird in a finals apearance had under 16 points per game( like Lebron), magic was tragic for a few games early on in his career... Jordan has had multiple playoff games with games under 40% in losses!!! Lebron has a magnifying glass on him right now so... we don't look at things with perspective any more. Lebron has been the best player in every playoff( including finals) series he has been in except the Dallas series.... Be real and not stupid!

    I've been saying this for years. Although he has great talent, he often marginalizes his teammates and they can't be effective. He basically turned Bosh and Love into spot up shooters. They were their number #1 options on their respective teams before going to the Cavs and could play back to the basket. You can't have it both ways. He gets the recognition when the team succeeds but complains when the lose cause he doesn't have any help. You have multiple all stars on your team. Who else do you need?

    • @adityavarshney6690

      Thuan Tran yeah he def gets it both ways and it goes unnoticed. That heat team was crazy cuz everyone had a distinct role and made an impact on the game. These Cavs teams have been kinda sad, esp without Kyrie, since offense is always abt LeBron. You don't really see anyone else initiating the offense or scoring in a different style.

      Thuan Tran We all know hes a 'great talent'. Hes also very high IQ knows what it takes to win, you spun the 1 time situation he 'complained' so you could make it a broader point. Another means to criticize further. Clearly you clicked this to hate. "Who else do you need?" Bro, you knew the Cavs weren't on the level of Golden State, LBJ put pressure on the team to add DEPTH, your dumbass ignores that, and say "go beat this team that took you 7 and added Kevin Durant, you got 2 All Stars!". He asked for DEPTH and playmakers, Cavs are a terrible front office and weren't doing anything, he got Deron Williams, and the bum choked vs GSW worse than any other player in those Finals (behind Korver, who they also acquired). since that Moment, he hasnt publicly asked "for more", went out and played all 82 and carried those bums once again w/ No Kyrie, but you still bring it up. Fucking moron.

      Machiti Holdings just ask many people about bosh in miami or love in cleveland, they would say they're not as good as they were with their other teams as with bron. the lebron system drastically changed their playstyles, however. even bosh admitted love would have a hard time adjusting. part of this is because they don't run real plays, which helps the structure and make the players comfortable in what they do on the court. that's why clarkson and hood are so bad with the cavs. it also doesn't help that they don't play defense. this is all because they don't practice, which would help both of these aspects. with today's free flow style, dominant guards are more successful than dominant bigs. james is great, but still not the GOAT, and by this point, is unlikely to do so.

      canWego Backintime "bronsexuals" only defend lebron cause he is the best player today... like magic when he was called tragic, like when Jordan was established as someone who could not win a ring because he was unselfish, like Kobe(once he lost shaq) when he was labeled a ball hog, and hurts his teammates... and so on and so forth. people don't want to hear it about lebron, because they believe that he is the greatest of all time... and what is even funnier about what you could think about that is that People who shit on lebron wouldn't have lebron out of the top ten today! and as far as "lebron" system goes... it has proven to be successful!!! and if you don't think it has been then you must think that there are only about 5 successful systems in the last 15 years... the point of an offense is to create the most opportunities, for said team.. Just this last year in the playoffs... the cavs had the most OPEN threes in the playoffs... but having better players(golden state) would lend better results.. meaning better team, better accomplishment. Lebron has had the best team 2 years out of his entire career... people like MJ, Magic, Bird, Shaq, Kobe, Tim, and others.. had multiple seasons with the best team... but I guess that doesn't matter.

      Astronaut Spartan The offensive system implemented by the Chicago Bulls during their championship runs. The offensive would be run by Pippen playing the point forward position. It regulates individual assist numbers but increases ball movement. Jordan's role in the system was to score & defend when on defense. That's why he didn't accumulate huge stats during the 90s because he played a role to truly benefit the team

But given talent, those players almost always don't get to let their talent shine. They're basically turned into spot up shooters (Bosh, Love, Wade to a lesser extent, Kyrie wanting to leave). • @jasonmantz8427
      @jasonmantz8427 6 років тому +9

      Shining Shores actually I didn’t ruin my own point. The system is not what caused Kyrie to leave. He just wanted to prove that he could lead a team that was good. It’s impossible to be the leader of a team if your teammate is lebron james. And it’s not like lebron’s game made Irving’s worse. Kyrie even took more shots than lebron did. I am just saying Kyrie left because at the end of the day lebron is the better player and no one could argue with that.

      To be fair to Wilt, he followed what the coach wanted despite being argumentative at times. If the coach wanted him to shoot all the balls, he did it. Even the 100 point game Wilt did not want to play after 70 points. If the coach wanted him to pass more, he did exactly that and led the league in assists one season. He certainly cared about his stats but this was in an era where you had to base your game around centers anyway. Russell had the opportunity of having a great coach and a great system where everyone was involved. LeBron has all the control in his team but they often play fodder for his individual stats, even though this doesn't have to be the only option.

    I completely agree.
    And this is why people who shit on phil Jackson and the triangle are WRONG.
    The triangle offense is alive and well in the warriors and they show how it can be used effectively.
    For some reason if you say triangle offense, people say it’s outdated. If you say “ball movement, player movement, cutting, spacing, equal opportunity offense” it’s new age basketball 🤔
    That quote that this video had from Steve Kerr... PHIL Jackson taught him that.

    • @bilalacevedo7973
      @bilalacevedo7973 4 роки тому +3

      The triangle offense is not a combination of cutting and equal opportunity offense it’s a specific positioning of players. Steve Kerr, Greg Popovich, Brad Stevens, and others who preach equal opportunity offense run a totally different system that relies on perimeter shooting early in the shot clock. They typically have a stretch big of some type, and shoot a lot of three pointers. They are completely different systems Kerr’s system is more pace and space then triangle due to his experience under Pop.

      Pops and Kerrs offense takes the theory of the Triangle offense and it's applied to today's 3pt game.
      The triangle was a equal opportunity motion offense which was based on post play of its Era. MJ and Kobe in the mid post and Shaq in the low post.
      The concepts are the same which is to provide scoring/passing opportunities by disrupting the defense using off ball movement. The system is mostly for role players to know where they should be, what reads to make, where to score and pass, and actively keeps them involved in the offense.
      Star players can create their own scoring and playmaking opportunities whenever they want based on their skill.

    Beautiful shit brother you broke it down to the very last compound. I would have said it like this he failed to do as Duncan does that's allow the coach to coach him and allow the offensive coordinator to put his system in whether it's Princeton, Multi Motions, Triangle or Flex/Floppy or even Hawks or The Fist Series. The superstar don't need a playbook but the inferiors need it this way if any thing happens Injury or emergency the team could move on without him thereby he could always get some real rest because the offense don't fall apart upon his resting. This is why Jordan didn't have to play 40 minutes because the inferiors knew the Triangle Offense enough to carry on 3-5 minutes without Jordan and Pippen but big ups on your explanation.

    This was "informative" commentary ( most so-called non biased media wont comment on) about the differences of Lebron's actual Basketball skill set short comings. All the greats of the past had to modify their initial pre-NBA strengths to some degree to obtain "winning" at the highest level. Russell, Magic, Bird, MJ, Shaq, Duncan,and even Kobe to a lesser degree had to sacrifice a bit of their own greatness to achieve the sustaining "team winning concept". Some like Russell, Magic, Duncan and Bird had that mentality almost from the start...while MJ and Shaq had to have a coach like Phil Jackson implement a system to Basketball where each player knew their roles and stressed ball movement to keep opponents off balance. Lebron had immediate success using his "Lebron system" from high school into the NBA.....but it translated little into a "team winning concept". Basketball success usually comes from players understanding their roles and significance on the team. MJ'S 1st 3peat Championship Bulls had defined roles in which each stayed within....Pippen was the defensive roamer.....Grant was the rebounder.....Paxson the facilitator and 3 point threat....Cartwright....was the big man presence and Free throw threat......and Jordan was the difference maker who embodied all the others and did what was necessary at crucial game moments ( bench players had similar roles). The 2nd Bulls 3peat had the same dynamic.....and it is no coincedence that Phil Jackson's philosophy helped Shaq and Kobe achieve similar success until that dynamic had a falling out. Lakers showtime...Bird's Celtics....Popovich Spurs.....even today's Golden State Warriors have a similar "team oriented ball movement" philosophy that leads to winning. Can anyone identify the defined roles of Lebron's supporting cast on his winning teams....or even the losing ones?
    Lebron had an opportunity that few other players had to create a " winning dynasty and legacy" through teaming up in Miami. His reluctance to " grow or change" as a player has been his strength and weakness at the same time. Does the Lebron system make other players better....or does it actually allow other players to make Lebron great.
    There is a great DVD called 25 years of NBA Champions (1979-2004) which perfectly narrates The beginnings of what many consider the modern NBA to near the cusp of today's game. I encourage those who only have an inclination of that time's players and mentality to check it and Actual available referenced games on UA-cam and decide for yourself about the Lebron system and its flaws.

I remember Kobe did ISO a lot but even Kobe ran off screens for open jumpers and would let the offense flow a bit. LBJ just drives and kicks. Russ has the same issue and why he struggled with PG and Melo. The team is built around Russ where he shines because he shoots so much and relegates everyone to catch and shooters. A bit of team ball is always needed no matter how good you are. Everyone touching the ball a few touches more a game unconsciously makes them feel more involved which is why GS is so dominant. Their bench plays so well due to the ball movement and they get to get a flow for themselves.

    This is why I love the Warriors so much. They have the greatest players who could easily just be isolation players. No one can ever guard KD. No one can ever guard Stephen Currys moves and shooting on -one on one- situations and there arent many players who could guard Klay either one on one. But instead we see great ball movement, unselfishness and 5 Stars on their positions who enjoys playing basketball. Its so much fun and all of them can shine at the same time. I mean, Steph can drop 50 and the second best scorer has 30 and the 3rd guy 25. Thats no accident and not just "firepower". Thats teamwork on display.

    Holy shit dude you really opened up my eyes to why lebrons teammates go from great to above average when they join his teams. I hate the cavaliers offense; its incredibly stagnant with little to no ball movement, too many 1on1 plays and many of the players can't get a rhythm. Now i can understand why a team like GSW are so much better (apart from their 4 all stars) because seriously they have great ball movement and actual movement on the offense. Lebrons system really only makes lebron better while people who dont analyze the game will always blame his teammates. Now i get its harder to give players touches when there are so many great guys like kevin love, kyle korver and even JR but GSW and rockets can do it with multiple star players! I believe there must be a flaw with the coaching as well since no one gets any plays for them to get into a rhythm. The whole reason why shooters in this nba are dangerous is because they get super hot when u give them the ball enough but in lebrons system teammates get hot one minute and super cold for the rest of the game! This video really exposes lebron being one of the best passers because it really has an asterisk to it - he really does not pass as often. While lebron maybe simply trying to make himself great through getting his numbers it wont help him get a championship if he keeps playing this way.

    That year they beat the spurs, I told my friend that they were playing spurs basketball better than the spurs were. And then they got away from it and lost the next finals they played them...This is why they were so terrible this year too. The offense was way too centered around lebron, and no one was able to get in a rhythm by getting touches and interacting in the offense. Dive, layup/dunk. Dive, foul. Dive, dish, one pass assist. Meanwhile the warriors mixed up iso play, ball movement, and unselfish passing to find the best shot on the floor to win. This is why they lost last year too, and why kyrie left. For example wilt was a statistically dominant player based on his high level of athleticism, strength and size. Skills not the only way a player can become great and when you have the edge physically you can be great by building around those talents. Lebrons is by far the better athlete compared to jordan and is arguably the best athlete ever with his speed at his size, his strength, vertical jumping power and his durability. However its undeniable that hes less skilled than jordan but jordan weighed in at 215 in his prime and lebron was probably 60 pounds heavier. Theres a reason bigger players have been historically more dominant and thats because it sets the bar that necessitates skill to bridge the gap to be competitive. For anyone who knows or researches football, you will understand Lebrons system. Essentially, Lebrons system is a "Spread Formation". In football, it utilizes 4 wide outs, 2 on either side. Its meant to draw defenses out of the box and allow for a more effective run game since defensive backs have to respect the pass and defend the wide receivers. Lebron is the quarterback AND the running back who charges at the "box" or basket with little to no resistance. He came from football, that was the sport he played in high school and he incorporated it in his basketball play. Its predictable and harmful to his teammates but favors him personally by affecting his stats.

  • @asianlim3000
    @asianlim3000 6 років тому +12

    I don't necessarily agree with the idea that this is 100% Lebron's fault. I think many casual fans underrate a coach/system's effect on the performance and playstyle of a player. I do believe Lebron has the basketball IQ to fit into system that revolves around ball movement under a great head coach like Popovich, Bradley, Kerr, etc- a type of coach that Lebron has never really had. I also think it's very difficult to acquire 3 or more good-great playmakers on the same team(Curry, Iggy, Durant, Klay, Draymond or TP9, Ginobli, Duncan) so an equal-opportunity system may not work for every team in the league as each team varies in talent. For example, I live in Atlanta and a few years back I remember the Hawks winning 60+ games because of how we moved the ball so much due to us having a good coach and a good system leading to a lot of our players to be or become willing passers and playmakers on the team(Jeff Teague, Al Horford, Korver, Schroder, etc.) However, in the post-season the Hawks still got beat by a Lebron James-led Team and as the next few years pass and most of the Hawk's talented playmakers leave, they became a worse team even under coach Budenholzer and his system. Therefore think that there are other different philosophies and approaches a team can take to the game that will succeed in an NBA championship. An iso- heavily dependent system has worked for Lebron in the past as he has 3 championships. Also in the past season, the Houston Rockets with a healthy CP3 could've definitely won the title which proves that you can play basketball in many different ways and still succeed.

      What % are you giving to lebron? It’s not just personnel or coaching, he isn’t willing to play in a system he wants to “be the system” mainly because that’s the only way he has ever played. As chris brusard said recently lebron doesn’t even know how to play off ball, he ends up standing around watching.
      You’re right though, the game slows down in the post season and iso ball becomes more effective.
      If a coach wants to play lebron in ways he isn’t happy with he tries to get them fired. I still maintain Blatt firing was unfair, cavs were top of the east at the time. Thats unheard of. It was reported he even wanted Eric spoltra fired but Pat Riley doesn’t play those games.
      I’ve said for a long time that wilt chamberlain is a better comparison than Jordan.

    • @Crimson296

      @@spacexmike imo is 50% bron's fault and 50% the coach's/organization. It's like every team Lebron goes to the entire organization (coach included) is scared of Lebron. I mean look at the lakers, as soon as lebron signed they were asking HIM who they should sign in free agency like he's a GM. Maybe it just has something to do with pressure that comes from playing with Lebron, idk. But bron has never had a coach wasnt scared to check him, essentially giving him the green light to do what he wants. Most recent example I can think of is a report about lebron ignoring luke walton's playcalling and doing his own thing. A coach like popovich, who wouldn't be scared to actually discipline bron would never let that fly.

  • @alanlee67
    @alanlee67 6 років тому +2

    The modern game is so awful to watch. It's just pick and roll iso ball with no real defense. No players are really good at creating great shots against great defense anymore. People like Allen Iverson, kobe, Paul Pierce in his prime, and of course MJ. That era of the NBA is long dead. Lebron already turns the ball over enough in an era where you can't touch a perimeter player, in older eras, Lebron would be a joke. He's way too soft and he looks lost half the time.

    Yes... this video is spot on, I agree with everything 100% in this video... I've been saying the same things for a while now. The LeBron System and his inability to play in a real team system is his biggest flaw and has and will always hold him back from winning championships. This is also why he is the most overrated of all the all time greats, because he is the greatest stat padder of all time, but not a good teammate. He doesn't make teammates better, that is one of the biggest myths about him. Defensively he has never been elite and it's showing more than ever the last few seasons. Hes fragile minded and therefore not a good leader because instead of putting blame on his shoulders to protect his teammates as a great leader does, he often throws them under the bus.... he can also be broken mentally, we've see this many times when he quits on his teams and its often on the biggest stages. For example his last year in Cleveland the first time he left, every Finals hes lost, especially 2011 and last year after game 1. Anyways, great video, on point 100%. 👍👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯💯

      I agree. I've always felt that his game outside of passing wasn't transcendent at all. And, it gets gassed up because of his size & athleticism. He came into the league an inconsistent shooter & lazy defender & 16 years later, he still is. His footwork still leaves much to he desired as well as his ever changing shooting mechanics. He doesn't give much off ball & he basically takes himself out of games by standing idly by on the perimeter. He still doesn't have an effective dribble drive that utlizes one move instead of him having to back up to create momemtum & throwing his hand out. Which causes him to tire out. Hardly any euros or hop steps or even head fakes. Just that same ole spin move & arm push. He complains too much & has given up many fast break scores in the playoffs & Finals because he's too busy complaining. He's even deliberately watched as the other team took off & still stood there to complain. He doesn't step up & take shots when the other team is goin on a run. He'll stand around or constantly pass. Won't take a shot but won't stop running the offense. Which ruins the rhythm of his teammates. Great player but consensus top two all time is laughable.

    although there were some solid points, the lebron system has some very positive results as far as playoff success is concerned. bosh & love's teams were no threat as being their teams #1 options. wade was never the same after his knee surgery. kyrie is actually a scorer, not a point guard. he had his highest scoring average while playing alongside lebron if i'm not mistaken. i guess it comes down to whether ...if i'm a 20 pt scorer, is it better to score 20 a game and not sniff the playoffs or 12 to 15 a game and play in the finals.

    Another problem with the LeBron system is that since it favors him, he takes no brunt of the blame when he loses, it always, "trash teammates."

Yet, when I brought up Varejao as a great Bron teammate, Bron fans were all like "Varejao. LOL. That scrub with fuzzy hair". It's unfortunate how much people downplayed Varejao to upgrade Bron.

      If you are to do such a video, be careful to involve things that dont appear at the statline. Like setting up screens for teamates, playing off the ball, battling to establish position in the post, being active on defense etc

      In raw stat totals advantage definitely goes to LeBron not only because he's a great talent/athlete, but his body didn't betray him the way Larry's did and he's been healthy for more games. But even looking at averages, I wouldn't say either has an obvious advantage over the other.
      Career averages:
      Larry: 24pts, 10rebs, 6ast
      LeBron: 27pts, 7rebs, 7 ast
      Comparing the strengths and weaknesses of their respective games (especially considering they play the same position and both had responsibilities as rebounders and playmakers) to determine who has the edge is a valid comparison.

    Clearly one of the most sensible videos about LeBron. His ball dominance that he has burdens his team and the management to pair him players are are adept in Catch and Shoot. I mean when a team acquires him, as of now the Lakers, the team management needs to find players that are adept in Catch and Shoot for him to be an effective passer. Let's see what will happen to the Lakers since they got decent PG in Rondo and an upcoming quality PG at Ball.

    I actually agree with the basic premise here about the style of play, but save me the pity party for his "star" teammates. Bosh never saw the second round of the playoffs without Lebron. Kyrie has only been in the playoffs once without him, on a fairly stacked Boston team that he sabotaged and who couldn't wait to send him packing. And Love has never been in playoffs without Lebron at all. Meanwhile, Wade's statistical productivity didn't fall off as much as Lebron's did their first season together. From that point on, Wade's body fell apart and he still averaged 20+ on the best efficiency of his career until Lebron left at which point he got a lot worse. Kyrie also had the best season of his career with Lebron. So let's not pretend Lebron destroyed these player's productivity. Love, Bosh and CRYrie were and are useless stat padders without him. Wade's body was just done from his style of play.
    I'd also add that he nearly beat GSW without Kyrie and Love and then beat them with them, at which point they went and got Kevin Fucking Durant to add to a 73 win team to beat him.

    Being a top team in assists has no correlation in winning.
    2021/22: Hornets #1 in assists, didn’t make playoffs
    2020/21: Warriors #1 in assists, didn’t make playoffs
    2019/20: Suns #1 in assists, didn’t make playoffs
    The only 2 teams to win championships consistently while leading the league in assists are spurs and warriors.
    Bulls never leaded the league in assists in any of their championship runs.
    During Lakers 3 peat, the lakers were not top 5 in assists any of those years.
    It’s a difference of systems. Even bill Russell Celtics never were top assist teams.
