Thanks for the retro look back. I haven't messed with a hackintosh in a few years. I do remember the days of hackintosh when it was hot. I think I had an Acer laptop at one point that ran everything really good. There's a chance I had to use USB Wi-Fi. I seem to be a big hurdle back in the day, that damn Wi-Fi. I had a couple of USB Wi-Fi sticks that were Mac OS compatible but you know it's not complete unless you can get all the pieces working. Sure is fine. Makes me kind of want to do it again. I do have a laptop right now, and MSI gaming laptop with dual graphics. I did find it challenging to hackintosh that particular laptop or ones like it because of the dual graphics. I may try again someday... For now, I still have my MSI gaming laptop but I have also acquired a MacBook pro from 2012 that I managed to push the latest Monterey OS on. It is an i7 with 8 gigs of RAM and a nice Nvidia graphics. So I dual booted it with Windows 11 to see what kind of games it would play running Windows full out on Mac hardware. It does run some decent games like getting over it. I know that's not the most graphical intensive game but the graphics do look pretty nice and they render clean. It plays other games of such style. I'm not in any way going to throw cyberpunk or anything that needs 2,000 gigs of RAM lol and a graphics card way better than what a MacBook pro has to offer. That light scribe technology was pretty cool. I had a Toshiba satellite that had light scribe capabilities and though it took about 30 minutes to render one desk, the results were pretty nice. If I do remember correctly the light scribe technology, you couldn't rub it off with your finger. There was a different style of technology out at the same time that did essentially the same thing but you could rub it with your finger and it was as if ink was smearing. I can't remember what that was called. It sure was fun being a part of all that stuff and being able to experience it and mess with it. I used to have a blast trying to find all the pieces of software to make the hardware work right. Hours and hours of looking through forums on a certain particular sound card model for the exact kext to make it work. That hackintosh was so finicky on some laptops when it was first being introduced as a possibility. I was all in it at the beginning stages right when Mac went to Intel and that made it possible. Of course no machine work straight out of the box when trying to do this the first time. I remember needing to go into verbose mode to find out where the machine was getting stuck and then I would run around on the internet searching all over the place for what that meant and when I finally got it and got the machine to work I'd start screaming and running all over the house making a fool of myself screaming about what I had done and my family looking at me like I've lost my mind. See ing the Mac OS startup welcome video WITH SOUND was icing... They had no idea...

Besides that, awesome video, Michael! Keep up the great work!

I put Leopard on my HP Mini 1000 netbook back in my 1st year of college. The Intel GMA graphics and single-core Atom handled the OS surprisingly well. Honestly, the only real thing impacting the experience was that OS X and its programs really weren’t suited to a screen with less than 768 pixels of vertical real estate

I Hackintoshed my ASUS 2015 laptop and it was such an adventure, countless hours of browsing through different forums, having to completely disassemble my laptop to change the WiFi card to one that's compatible and all that, but I gotta tell you it was worth it, runs miles better than on Windows.

Would be cool to see you doing a 'proper' modern hackintosh 'vanilla' install with OpenCore and such on the same system, perhaps using Snow Leopard or the likes instead.

In the installer, clicking "Customise" allows you to select all the drivers you want. That it works at all after just skipping that step amazes me! lol

I'm VERY familiar with Hackintoshes. In fact, I'm typing this right now from an Acer Predator laptop running macOS Mojave. The main mistake (which is why I think you don't have sound or network support) is right after you select your install destination, you're supposed to click "Customize". There, you'll find a lot of various drivers which you can select, which you'll have to look into in advance. And actually, yes, those modified installers are called "distros" within the Hackintosh community. Although nowadays, they're extremely frowned upon in favor of "vanilla" installs with the software straight from Apple. Speaking of, if you are up for more of a challenge, you could try creating a "Vanilla" installation of Mac OS X Leopard. If you want to go the old-school route, look into the Boot-132 solution. Or, if you want a more modern experience that still works with Leopard, look into the OpenCore bootloader. Either way, you're extremely likely to succeed, considering your CPU (Intel Core 2 Duo) is a processor found in many Macs. Many other Intel CPUs and every AMD CPU require a patched kernel to run, but that computer wouldn't require that. In fact, depending on the model of the CPU, you could potentially run even macOS High Sierra (probably not well, but it could technically install, boot, and run okay). I hope you do more Hackintosh-related videos in the future!
