Same problem same model. I reset it, just to verify everything else was working. Upper thermostat was hot to the touch. OMW to home depot. Thanks for the video...
So I'm just curious, I have an electric 50-gallon AO Smith heater, I replaced both thermostats and both elements but even after that, the heater doesn't seem to be turning on, I also made sure that the breakers weren't tripping.
Same problem, 7 year old, the high limit switch kept popping out. The generic store brand (about $15 )upper thermostat did not work for me because a couple of the wires were too short. So I ordered the original equipment upper thermostat ($30). Now have the new upper in... same thing keeps happening. None of the how to repair videos I found mentioned the lower. You are saying replace both. Ugh
I have this water heater in my apartment my hot water only works after being reset. I checked the bottom panel and it was rusty and I tried to lift the white coushin but it was stuck to the inside it looks burnt like it burned to the black plastic behind it and smells burnt and gave me a headache, im calling maintenance again today hope they fix it my apartment complex seems to always take the cheap ways out and it doesn't feel safe for me and my kids.
Just rebuilt my water heater and if you can believe this (in 2024) I bought both thermostats and both elements for $47.00 in a kit. I’m really surprised they haven’t jacked these prices sky high like everything else. I priced out the same exact parts individually because I already had a couple spare elements on hand. It would have cost me $60.00 if I just bought the thermostats. wtf?
Hot Water heater stopped working after I noticed that the temperature of the hot water had increased significantly Replaced Upper thermostat. Temperature regulation doesn't work heats up to 154 degrees no matter how is set. Reset button tripped on hot water heater every night working several cycles of reheating then trips I believe that the lower thermostat may be causing Upper to reset going to keep observing
I got the same thermostat but one black wire doesn’t reach to where it was on the old thermostat, can I just pull the wire out a bit more to reach the connector? Or no?
Thank you so much for this video. Totally fixed my issue. And thank you for being professional enough NOT to call the water heater a hot water heater. I closed several videos on this same problem due to the instructor calling it a hot water heater. I can't stand unprofessionalism.
Mine was doing what u said I called so smith they said it was the bottom element shorted and staying on most likely it was full of lime and shorted but not blowed actually making groungvto tank and staying on and it can shock u they were right cleaned out all the lime replaced both elements although top didnt need it working fine I too thought thermostat energy on ubtube said this could be it and it can shock u.
The extra credit scene with the curse words is definitely worth sticking around for!

Mine has been inconsistent since new . Sometimes it barely has enough hot water other times it’s too hot to have on hot all the way .

Pigtail it. They don't usually have extra.
