It is so nice to see a company like Penta Labs stepping up and are working with some of the best Chinese tube manufactures to bring to market some great working tubes. With Penta testing every tube I am 100% satisfied that when I order a set of 572b and mount them in a horizontal position that they will give me years of reliable service. Great video Luke to prove that Penta Lab tubes are indeed the future of Tubes. 73 Joe
Hey BBI, Nice vid as usual. I also recommend Penta Labs. I purchased a tube to go in my Ameritron AL-80b I try to do everything heavenly possible to treat my equipment with kid gloves. A purchased a single 3-500z one January. I'm a fairly new ham, I only rag chew and don't do a lot of that. I used the tub in the amp from January until September. One day in tuning I noticed and immediate power drop off. It would keep dropping until it was down to zero. I called Penta Labs and told the guy about the tube. He told me to send him the tube and he would test it and replace it free if it was shown to be bad. A few days later he contacted me that indeed the tube failed. He said it didn't look abused. He wasn't really open in explaining what happened to it. He said a new tube was already on it's way. I do call that good customer service. Again, I recommend them highly! Thanks again! 73 Ruben NB4R
very well said about safety ! also I would like to point out about HV caps can build up a charge on there own even after discharged. all ways keep them grounded out. The very big ones we use on broadcast transmitters are so dangerous. I can not get to them without many safety interlocks. our new ones we have a spares are always shorted out. them Penta tubes work great. we have some in the old backup RCA all tube transmitter and they run just fine. I like to run my amps with just bias on for a while and watch the tubes. and current and voltage . very good test . you have no warranty now. but this just a test and tubes did there job just fine. looking to see what a 8877 Penta tube does. try the 572/B ones. can place instead of 811A . 73's
Hi Luke, Great video teaching the dangers of very high voltage. I once saw a danger sign on a HV transformer that said "There are lethal voltages here. It will kill you and you will be in pain the entire time you are dying". You and your family stay. 73 WJ3U
Hello Amp Porn Lovers and Friends: BBI your undying commitment to this vintage amp is overwhelming 😂. Nobody that is still breathing could do a better job 😄. This amp was definitely saved from the scrap pile by your gifted hands, years of experience, & your undying love for these vintage amps. 😅😢, As always my best to you and your family, TMP, Unit 22 from N.J. 😊😊😊😊.
There are ground interlocks on the big transmitters too and built in Jesus stick. That was the first lesson I learned working on them. That Henry is beautiful and my dream amplifier especially knowing I can find tubes for it.
I was working on a transmitter while in the Navy, I was making an adjustment in the amplifier power supply. The only way in those days to do it was with the unit on, my screwdriver slipped and allowed 2KV at 1.5 amps to come up through the handle, through my arm and since fortunately my elbow was against the unit behind me, instead of going through my heart. It blew a small hole in my elbow on the way to ground. I felt like I was kicked by a mule, I'm pretty sure I had a carbon filament, that took a long time to heal inside my arm. Do not put your meat hooks inside a high voltage cabinet.
Thanks for doing these videos and testing new products I can see myself ordering a pair of 3 500 Z tubes. Not sure if I will run them right away or put them in the vault and stay with the iMac American made tubes.
I didn't hear any music unless your talking about the intro Luke has in the beginning of his videos. I just scroll past that and get to the meat and potatoes.
I'm thinking of making the switch on my LK550 to these and saving the 3 eimacs...im sure the Penta's will make a lil more power vs eimacs. Mine runs at like 3-3100 1.75ccs
Question: would you recommend a legal limit amplifier that ran 2 Penta 3-500zg's vs an amplifier that ran something like a 4CX1000? I'm talking from a long-term, cost, and tube availability perspective. Sincere question, not trying to open a box of worms. :)
Well in my opinion the world boils down to dollars per watt right the 4cx1000 Tube is an amazing tube. The downside is the availability of the tube. Penta sells those tubes but the a pair of 3-500z runs right there with it. Which is cheaper I guess would be the question right
Thanks for the reply. I usually drive mine in the 40-50 watt range with my icom. Not much of a big numbers guy anyway. Just enough to get through a pileup.
You may not see this yourself, so let me point out that you seem to be talking down to people. You may not mean to be doing this, and I'm sure you're only intent is to make your point clear. It's not the message you deliver but the messenger you hired to deliver it... Saying things once is usually enough.

This was a great demonstration Mr. BBI, some really bad-boy tubes going into a classic bad-boy amp. !! Thanks for sharing............
It is something special. Watching someone who knows their stuff

I have been running a RF Parts 3-500ZG for about a year in an Ameritron AL-80A so far so good. Think I will go with Penta next.

Yea but you still have to use the chicken steak it's just part of the grounding an interlock procedure.
@@BoxBuilderIdaho Yep use early and use often even if the mains are pulled
Thanks BBI for this nice video. Would love to see the test of the 3CX3000A7. I build myself such a baby in the 90th. Best Regards

Penta has that big tube you showed us awhile back they want 2400.00 for one tube wow

I've been wanting to get a set of their tubes. Wife keeps asking me if I need them. If she only understood why.
I always remember the saying " SIDE,. or Switch off, Isolate, Dump , Earth!!"
Looking good BBI.
Yes, please turn the music OFFFF. THANK YOU
No!!!!! Lol
I didn't hear any music unless your talking about the intro Luke has in the beginning of his videos. I just scroll past that and get to the meat and potatoes.
Yes Dear Sir, the music isn't conducive with this video. It is distracting for such a lethal subject . Thanks Luke.
25 YEARS ON Chinese TUBES???? I CAN'T STOP LAUGHING.
Test them u will see

Is it monthly. I wud like to know
Yes it's monthly.
It would be super cool to get into tube amps and away from pills
now repeat the same tests, with the same tubes, after 500 hours of CB operation. I wanna see how sturdy those tubes are.

@@BoxBuilderIdaho Thank you sir. Love your channel!
Can you put the 500zg in a 220 amp ?
What do you reccomend for drive wattage on a sb220? Just curious.
100 pep watts max!! or it will start to come apart
Thanks for the reply. I usually drive mine in the 40-50 watt range with my icom. Not much of a big numbers guy anyway. Just enough to get through a pileup.

I wud like for you to explain how patroon works. Is it monthly please explain to me, us
Yes, monthly. Take a look at the pricing. You can chose how much to give.
The music is a distraction brother, you don't need it.
