- 1987 Toyota Pickup 2x4 22r 4 speed manual
This video took only 26 days to create with youtube video editor
I made this video to sell my truck and it worked.
New price my stepdad paid in 1987: $7000.
Sold: $4000
Best resale value of any vehicle ever...
Of course in the 5 years prior to selling it I spent $1000 on hood, bumper, 4x4 fenders and paint, $1200 on BFG’s and wheels, $2000 on Downey off-road suspension (which SUCKS) $1200 on engine rebuild (crackhead shop in Upland. It never leaked oil until after the rebuild and they said, “sure, guy, bring it back and we’ll pretend it’s just the oil pan gasket you can pay us to replace...”)
Beautiful truck. Btw my dad had an 87 Toyota 4runner which was the same thing as the toyota truck back in the 1980s. My dad bought it in 1994. He owned it for 24 years until it blew a head gasket in 2017. Until then somebody lost their acclerator and it hit my dad's 87 Toyota 4runner. It was not at our house, it was at his workplace. My dad was planning to replace the head gasket until the guy hit it. Sadly, it was considered as a total loss by our insurance company. It was towed to a junkyard a few days later. So yeah my dad had fun memories with that 4runner. It died at 280k miles. When my dad bought it was 145k miles.
I wish I never wrecked or sold all of my Toyota pickups ('86 1-ton 4cyl auto my first car-wrecked bought-$4200, '84 extra-cab 4cyl 5 speed door-dinged gardener truck bought$3300--$3350sold, '89 4x4 reg cab 5 speed bought-$2000--$4000sold, '00 Tundra reg cab 3400 s/c auto bought-$7000--$7000sold, and THIS '87, THE NICEST TOYOTA YOU'D EVER SEE bought new $7000--sold$4000 27 years later!!!) I've never had a Tacoma or 4Runner.
-Why wont it move !?
-Use the wand of power.
That was a good movie
That’s from toy story! This truck reminds me of that movie toy story 2
For a second there I thought it was a 4x4, had to wait for a shot of the wheel lugs lol. I can't find any lift kits for my 86 2wd, searched the Internet and all I can find are long travel kits and ball joint spacers. There's one guy in Cali that builds custom spindles but for the price they don't give much lift.
+Matt Morrow The truck has 4x4 front fenders on it so it looks alot like a 4x4. (It also allowed wider rims and offset--the wheels were for a Buick Grand National and the front rims are the wider offset from the back of the Buick and the rear rims have less offset, fitting within the stock bed--and were the front rims from the Buick! 235/75/15 tires.)
If you want to lift your truck, you'll just chase alot of problems like rim size and spacing, tire rubbing on fender, trying different tire sizes, figuring out what weight torsion bar and rear leaf springs+add a leaf works for the weight of your truck and gear offroad, fenders--stock 4x4 or aftermarket fiberglass which require a hood also--poor fitment, need for paint, brake line lengthening, steering component relocation and bracing, spindle physics-- stress on the spindle and--ball joint damage and failure is inevitable--even with special expensive "uni-ball kits," front wheel alignment becomes impossible, inner fender plastics no longer fit--exposing engine to mud, sand, air filter clogging.
You can try a body lift with complications ranging from bumper relocations to radiator and air conditioning component relocation, wiring and ground relocating/lengthening, shifter relocating, bed realignment.
Sorry if this sounds negative. If you like working on cars, it is a fun project. Also save up for a limited slip differential or a whole rear end from a newer tacoma with an electronically locking differential...
Que buena pick up
I miss my '87. Great truck until the bed started rusting out.
this thing sell?
Is it for sale video?
What engine has this thing?
Alfa Romeo 33 22r carbeureted 2.4 liter with 4 speed manual transmission
What kind of wheels do you have on the truck ?
bigmac22ify they were CRAGAR RIMS off a buick grand national with the rears on the front and fronts on the rear. Offset fit the 2x4 bed and 4x4 fenders perfect.../ Rims off a ford ranger fit really bad and stuck out.
Thanks just picked up one exactly like yours in silver with no rust
bigmac22ify Every time I drive a new car I long for a 1987 Toyota Pickup. All of the controls make sense and don’t require you to view a computer screen or touch one of 20 buttons all feeling the same...
