The surprise was how easy the 90 on street tyres tackled it compared to the 110. The Prado looked like it struggled the most. Land Rover definitely looked the best marque.

Mark Perks it was one of those sections Mark, where the right wheel base to get your wheels in the right place combined with the right power to weight ratio made all the difference.

I'd like to see this comparo done again with the driver of the 90 taking them all up. In a few of your vids he always picks great lines, and I think he makes the car look (even) better than it is.

It has a Llams kit fitted that allows you to manually access extended mode when required. Tyres are only 265/70/18

LOL that dog is losing his shit! Any happier and he would be punching out back flips!

BB has been having a well earned rest after having a few repairs done. Snapped a rear drive shaft and have been toying around with getting everything together to retro-fit an e-diff to the rear which is a massive undertaking. She will be back in action soon.

It's definitely impressive. The guy with the 200 series you see in some of our vids has actually said he doesn't see the need for lockers with modern day traction control systems and he is a diesel mechanic who was prior to the 200series, a traditional 4x4 enthusiast with heavily lifted, locked and modified 4WD's. A complete 180 for him since buying the 200 series.

'Clancy' the D4 is running a set of 265/75 Cooper ST Maxx which is a new tyre release from Coopers. Probably the most aggressive ATR on the market at the moment - very impressive. I'm also running them on the 110 Defender you see in the videos.

2007-on Defenders have the lowest overall gearing factory fitted of all 4x4s, even lower than a Jeep Rubicon!

The Prado and Rav4 are different cars. We also get the Rav4 in Australia, the prado is a smaller version of the Landcruiser. I think it was brought into the market for people who wanted similar offroad characteristics as the Landcruiser without the size and bulkyness of the Landcruiser.

I honestly think the LR4 (D4) has the best traction control/e-diff I have ever seen in a vehicle. Makes me think that driver actuated lockers and 4x4 systems will soon be a way of the past.

Defender 90 is long travel suspension with very little body overhang front or rear and good power to weight. Sadly the end has come to production because they and the 110 cannot be readily redesigned to meet the Euro crash regs so production has ceased.

Nice Vid. The driver in the FJ was painful to watch!
    Discovery 4 for the win!

Discovery4 has really good power, next to the LandCruiser V8's. But it's amazing how well the Disco went. So smooth.

First time on any serious offroad track and found it a bit tricky getting used to the traction control system. All sorted by the next run ;-)

90 surprised everyone that day. Wait till you see the next instalment when it carves through deep mud ruts on road tyres without even trying.

lol guy in that FJ was white knuckles all the way up i bet! you could tell he was new to the scene....question; that Toyota Prada is that the same as American Rav4? they look similiar if anything....didnt do a bad job

If it's Toyota, diesel and has air lockers then it's good to go.

Triton has front and rear ARB air lockers. Almsot unstoppable.

What tyres does the D4 have? Presumably the e-diff is a massive help there but he fairly stormed up.
Thin on the ground as offroading is here (Ireland) I've been thinking of trying out some local clubs with my D3 (no e-diff but still) and stuck some Scorpion ATRs on last change.

Thank you. I'm looking at the Gap IIDTool to achieve similar results than the Llams.

Is the Disco4 equipped w/ air suspensions or coils ? Am I getting in trouble when buying an air suspension equipped LR and taking it on very corrugated roads ?

I've had an SVX like the first one, only the 90 version, and it didn't come with traction control.

It's up to each owner to set up their vehicle the way they want to and you definitely need to consider things like tyres in how each performed on this track.

Does the D4 have johnson rods or the green oval experience rods installed? Tires are really big. Looking for a similar set up here in the US.

this is really putting me in a problem: on the fence about getting a 200 series and leaving my 100 series. any other comments you can pass along about the 200 series or do you have any good comparo of the 200 and a true locker version of another vehicle??

  • @michaelnugara1

Gotta agree. Lockers@ both ends do provide a great edge. I prefer to be able to select when mine come on. The auto lockers are good but sometimes you don't want a locker to be engaged. Love the TC on the 200 & d4. Extremely capable & comfy. Pity the Triton wasn't there. She goes really well. It's got a rear locker hasn't it?
