Incredible, engineers and hydrologists amaze the heck out of me. Do you know where this water would be sourced? Not the actual place I mean, but from like a reservoir higher up and then moved to a town? Take care Chuck, pleasure learning from you.
Exactly what I figured. Had they walked along the surface in the same direction the pipe went, they probably would have found some sort of water supply.
If there is a nuclear power plant within 50 miles they will pipe water from every source in the event they need to cool it down before meltdown. They do it here for the one like 50 plus miles away
Dude, you find the most amazing things. My hats of to ya. I was the coalcracker side kick for 2 yrs. He bailed on exploring . Very sad. Anyway, stay safe , you and your underground buddies. Love the content. If ya ever need a sxs for one of your adventures please reach out. It would be a pleasure
Dam Tad that sucks about the Coalcracker... I've been wondering why he has not uploaded in awhile I was hoping it wasn't health related, I really enjoyed your guys explorations.
I've lived in Oregon, no reside in Washington State. My first thought is that the tunnels were for trafficking of some sort. If not part of a mining or utility access, what else could it have been for? And if abandoned, it could be exploited for trafficking later on. Authorities should explain/and/or close it down.
I love that we share a state. I wouldn't look for half this stuff, but a lot of these places make for great hiking spots. We're really thankful for the risks you guys take. Travel safely!
Thank you as always for an interesting video. Can’t wait for the next one after the preview you showed at the end. Stuck in hospital with intermittent WiFi so this vid has cheered me up. Be safe guys. 🇬🇧
Looks like someone gave up sweeping up half way and left a broom on the floor, lol. That ladder at the entrance also looks brand new compared to everything else.
It looks to be a gas line by the small pipes and valves you see at each end. Even new water pipes are in sections like the last big pipe you were at. The black wrap is to prevent corrosion. You'll see it on almost all new gas or water lines. It sucks we don't have much left on the western side of the state to explore like that.
The small valve in the end is probably a air bleed off pipe the tunnel is slightly leaning to the first door they entered, with a pipe that long there will be some extra hight in the wall end that could trap air . It's very probably that the pipe is a pp plastic one with insulation and tarp around that insulation to prevent condensation on the pipe, its is probably a water pipe to a municipal water system and its probably not abandoned at all , a bit sloppy to not keep the doors locked, water infrastructure is critical and sensitive infrastructure.
It's not a gas line our large gas pipelines are clearly marked . This is from a nearby reservoir called pikes Creek. I'm a local NEPA explorer just like them.
@@perstaffanlundgrenyou are correct it is a water main from a local reservoir in Northeast PA. I knew where they were as soon as I started the video and the ending on the road confirmed my suspicions as well....pikes Creek reservoir
Wow! My dad and grandpops works in some mines in PA, Darry, ligioner etc, it really makes me happy to see you guys exploring some of these places knowing some family may have taken the same steps as you! I know you’re going to find some hidden tunnels that were used for nefarious purposes in n the last… il be watching and waiting!! Keep exploring safely!👍🙏💕
The rail that the electrical conduit and lights are on is called Unistrut. That is what it is used for. Bolting pretty much anything to it in horizontal or vertical position.
I'm curious what that whole tunnel/pipe system was or is for, and why it seemed to have various slightly differently designed stages - seems a bit much for just water.
Yeah I think they went about that rescue all wrong.Bringing out an excavator disturbing the actively subsiding area to make the hole bigger possibly dropping loose dirt and rock down into the hole on top of her smh..they should have just sent down experienced rigged cave explorors with SRT anchored to the excavator or a timber set over the original hole with a rescue stretcher..strap her to the stretcher and hoist her up.Would have been a 4 hour deal. But now they did what they did.Im just glad the little girl didnt fall down too, pretty crap situation all around.
Thanks for another great video! A small difference - the forests here in Oregon are mostly fir trees (also, Oregon has more forested acres than any other lower 48 state 😊)
Just found your channel and love it, definitely picked up a new sub. Always interested in places like this and history. I appreciate your finding artifacts pointing them out but leaving things where you found them, shows your respect for these places.
Water pipe from a reservoir Not unusual to see these but they are usually locked and only accessible for the utility company. NY State has a bunch of these
I think you are correct . This might have been the exact tunnel I was inside when i was a teenager living in NEPA . We didn't find the end of the pipe and turned around because of how deep the water got. I went on google maps and deduced it eventually led to a reservoir though.
The mystery of water pipes can be quite intriguing, especially when considering ancient systems that exhibit advanced engineering. For instance, the 4,000-year-old water pipe system discovered at the Chinese walled site of Pingliangtai showcases a complex water management system created without a centralized authority, which is quite remarkable for its time. Additionally, the Baigong Pipes in China present another enigma, with their complex design and metallic composition suggesting advanced technology that seems out of place for ancient civilizations.
Wastewater pipe for emergency dump in case wastewater plant cannot process sewage. EPA made a lot of plants abandoned emergency discharge into certain areas.
i bet that ledge was the old pipe and instead of removing it they just encased it in concrete to seal it off and the pipe fills the void to use less concrete. Just a guess
This was incredibly normal not creepy to me, compared to mining shafts. Its obviously a more modern tunnel for either water or gas lines through a mountain.
Very interesting. To get that deep into a mountain, might have it's advantages. I'm wondering what the 5 or 6 inch PVC pipes were for and where they went. Would be interesting to check the outlets for power.
11:20 This is really cool! From a fellow explorer’s perspective; the fact that a corporate or government entity paid to engineer and build a concrete supported room, then just left it abandoned, makes you ponder on its original purpose! Fun adventure guys!
Whatever it is, it can't be that old given the use of PVC piping in areas, plastic jacketing, and that there is little to no corrosion on most of the conduits for the electric utilities. Not sure what the pipe run is for, but I suppose it's neat to find a service tunnel that hasn't been properly secured. Probably something municipal, and they'd yell at you for trespassing if they knew what you were up to.
Hey Phil diggin the new thermals How did you fit them Gorilla arms in them.Lol...😅😂🤣 I'm freezin my ass of today in Mt Pocono PA. I got a set of thermals 🥶

It is not going to be a gas pipeline because the walking area could fill up with gas and then be an explosion hazard and also could suffocate anyone in there.
I suffer with Muscular Dystrophy & can't get out to explore these places & recently bought a VR headset to watch your videos on a 132 inch curved monitor & it's the closest I'll get to literally being there with you. Oh & if you film with a 360 camera & upload it to you tube it will become fully emmersive to the person with a headset on via UA-cam 360 video (Pretty awesome)
The start of the video looked like near a reservoir so I assume this is either a hydro electric pipeline or supply for a drinking water treatment plant for a town. It's not shocking in anyway. Why do they need so many electrical points? - for tools. Repairs will be needed at various stages in the pipe and tunnels lifetime and you cannot use a generator in a confined space unless you start bring in extraction/forced air etc.... all of which takes up room. Battery tools are great but not for big jobs. Looks like a fairly well set up installation so far (I'm only 4 minutes in!).
It’s a water conduit , the tunnel is to provide proper “fall” & protect from freezing , rock slides and avalanche damage….
Incredible, engineers and hydrologists amaze the heck out of me. Do you know where this water would be sourced? Not the actual place I mean, but from like a reservoir higher up and then moved to a town? Take care Chuck, pleasure learning from you.
