    A low cost basic commercial method of processing beeswax into customer orders. The wax has been rendered through the same melter during the production season to remove the slum. This is the second time the wax has been sent through to further remove honey from that roughly rendered product.

    I really enjoy rendering beeswax. I just find it so satisfying. But then, I'm just doing 10-20 pound unfiltered slabs.

    Hm! I am curious, how do you get the wax and honey? Do you have to destroy the combs, or does the wax separate from the honey as you harvest it?

    I have a question about whether or not it would be possible to reuse this wax in frames. And also I always see non-drawn out comb frames but is it possible to create completely drawn out frames ?

    In the States we use electric heat tape to keep water lines from freezing. Maybe you could wrap the valve and it will keep the pipes from getting too Cold to let the valve and wax to flow. It may keep you from fire up the torch every time you drain the wax. Thanks

      they press what wax is still left in the slum, and they do old broken frames. as far as the slum itself, it can make for good burning fuel in the winter times. it's basically garbage.

    What's "slum"?

    • @droolingfangirl
      @droolingfangirl 5 років тому +2

      There's a wikipedia article, "Slumgum in beekeeping is the residue of the beeswax rendering process. When the beeswax from brood comb is rendered to produce clean wax, it leaves behind the pupal lining, wax moth cocoons, excrement from larvae, and other residual debris included in the original material. "

      Seamstresses use it to toughen their thread. Archers use it on bow strings. There are hundreds of uses. There are some very high tech items that can't be made without bees wax. It's very special stuff.

    • @Lkonae

      0%. Would you part with $500 worth of equipment that you have to manage several times a year to prevent it from becoming a biosecurity risk?

    • @affluentimaginings
      @affluentimaginings 5 років тому

      Do you mean how much to leave the bees for winter use? That's the only reason you'd not harvest as much as you can. During spring, summer, fall the bees will be producing. So you just leave the bees enough to sustain them thru winter. Environmental reasons? I can't think of any.

    • @mikeries8549

      I have a couple 'wild' hives that I leave alone because they just won't die. They swarm and I've got traps in the trees. Call it me being lazy. One hive I just don't like it for some reason. They were mean 4 yrs ago. I'm certain that my bee club acquaintances would judge me hard. They judge everything hard and don't share much because they're afraid of being judged themselves. Those two hives made a lot of new colonies this year.
