Oh yea for sure sports karate has way too many limitations and it’s like not even true karate that’s what it need to come back old school karate definitely

this is like a combination of sport and kyokushin style. They actually apply the blocks and stances you see in their katas, I don't really see much Karate schools do this in general. I could be wrong with what I said tho

      オリンピックスタイルの空手は縛られていますが、ストリートファイトではとても強いですよ!
      空手家の固く鍛え上げられた拳が、素早く的確に当たる。
      気になれば沖縄の琉球空手も調べてみてください!

I always thought that Ashihara was another branch of the Kyokushin, but there are some fundamental difference in principles. There is much higher emphasis on positioning, and technical application, and less on body beating.

Well Kyokushin was made for street fighting but politics got in the way.
And Ashihara is basically Kyokushin with different principles in how to attack. Sebaki is more tactical for street fighting

Ashihara and many other modern karate styles are derived from kyokushinkai or any powerful Okinawan or Japanese style or they are a combination of many of them. American fake karate styles are something else with their burger kata and black belt after two sessions!

Perhaps it's just a matter of finding a really good teacher like this sensei. He explains and varies well, and I also enjoy how relaxed he is during sparring.

I like this more than Kyokushin because I don't like the idea of taking beating yourself while attacking opponent. Its is more tactical to get an advantageous position after defending an attack to fight just like Ashihara karate

wish they incooperated more punches to the head in Shin karate and abandon the beating the body to a pulp mindset, if they did that, the true beauty and functionality of the art will come out. And wish that Singapore shin karate organisations can cooperate with each other more harmoniously to bring out the art. Osu!
