- Craig Russell as Tallulah Bankhead and Bette Davis from The Craig Russell Show 1980 in Amsterdam.
Russell Craig Eadie (January 10, 1948 October 30, 1990), known by his stage name of Craig Russell, was a Canadian live celeberity impersonator.
His impersonations included Carol Channing, Bette Davis, Mae West, Barbra Streisand, Tallulah Bankhead, Marlene Dietrich, Bette Midler, Anita Bryant, Peggy Lee and Judy Garland. While performing, he always spoke and sang in the voices of the celebrities he was impersonating.
As a teenager, Russell became president of Mae West's fan club, and briefly worked and lived in Los Angeles as West's secretary. He eventually returned to Toronto, where he moved in with Margaret Gibson and worked as a hairdresser while pursuing his career as a stage performer. By 1971, he was a regular performer in Toronto gay clubs and had a burgeoning international following.
Russell fathered one child, a daughter, Susan Allison ("Allison"), who was born January 6, 1973 in Toronto. Father and daughter developed a relationship in the years prior to his death.
In 1977, Russell starred in the film Outrageous!, based on a short story written by Gibson about their time as roommates.
Although he publicly identified as gay rather than bisexual, Russell married his close friend Lori Jenkins in 1982.
In 1987, Russell starred in the sequel to Outrageous!, appropriately titled Too Outrageous!
Russell remained married to Lori until his death in 1990 of a stroke related to complications from AIDS.
Craig was cremated and laid to rest in Port Perry, Ontario.
Lori Russell Eadie passed away August 15, 2008 at Toronto Grace Hospital after a long battle with cancer. Lori was laid to rest beside her beloved husband Craig at Pine Grove Cemetery (Prince Albert) in Port Perry. - Розваги
I walked past Craig sitting on a bench on Isabella St. a few weeks before he died, a shocking sight to see. ... AIDS was horrifically cruel and gruesome to its Victims back in 1980
Craig won best actress at the Berlin Film festival for "Outrageous". He was parodying those great stars, not trying to imitate them perfectly.
Great video
Craig was a great talent and a good friend of mine in NYC in the
70's. He passed shortly after. Miss him.
Thank goodness for channels like this that show great artists like Craig for people today.
I like the way he exaggerates the people he impersonates.
What a preformer that was real drag.
I love Tallulah and Bette
My God what a talent!
Too easy to be judgemental. The whole show is outstanding. So what if one or two characters weren't "perfect". Was perfect for me. Love this show and his love for all the characters. He really pulled the camp and outlandish traits of all of them.
Holy shit hes a great tallu too! I love how Tallulah always gets played by men- does that mean something?
Best part- Choreography by Ray Charles.
I think from what I've seen he was fabulous! Very funny. True talent. Thanks for posting this.
Too Fab.. "Is That the Key Of R Darling" love this vid
Haha LOL everybody does Bette Davis! Bette LOVES being done! lol how true is that?
Great!!♥
omg this was great
I thought he did very well.
Absolutely darling. c:
much missed x
Bahahahaha wow bahahahaha haha so so amusing Rest In Peace darling
almost some eartha kitt in the middle of the song there
owes a bit to T.C. Jones
To all of the youngsters making snide, stupid remarks - performers like Craig actually did their own singing, unlike the lip-synching wannabees of today. Learn a little more about what went on in the world before you were born, when talent was more real and less manufactured.
you are so right !!!
Exactly!! I'm so tired of them comparing Craig to Jim and so on !! They were two different type of impersonator!! Both, equally good !! This is part of my history!!
You said a mouth full ! These kids today are so over exposed to the RuPaul drag queens, that basically all do the same thing !! There are a few real talented one's from the "Race" such as Jinks, and Bianca Del Rio, just to mention a very few.. It's not often we get the Craig Russell, or Jim Bailey type these days!! I wish the young one's could have seen them, but now with You Tube, they can !! They can see real talent, not just mouthing others singing, and jumping around !! Luv Ya !!
MOST CAN NEVER ACHIEVE WHAT CRAIG DID HE HAD INTERNATIONAL FAME AT A TIME WHEN HOMAPHOBIA WAS THE EXCEPTED NORM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT WAS A VERY DIFFERENT TIME
@DiabolicalAngel Only men's voices are deep enough to do Tallulah! LOL
his Tallulah needed to be deeper. he sounded more like Eartha kitt
Bahahaha
His Bette voice was too high
Did he do shows in America?
A TRUE ICON !!!!!!!!!! DOES NOT GET THE RECOGNITION HE DESERVES IN THE GAY COMMUNITY HE PAVED THE WAY FOR AND BROKE THOUGH ON MANY LEVELS FOR THE GAY COMMUNITY ,THEY SHOULD ERECT A STATUE OF HIM ON THE CORNNER OF CHURCH AND ALEXANDER ,NOW THAT THERE IS SPACE !!!!!!!!!!!
I know he's supposed one of the best however I don't think he is ! And this really got on my nerves it was so over the top and actually nothing like tallulah or bette !! Sorry only my opinion !
I never cared for him either.
Bunch of bitter old Queens ! Then why are you here ???
@@michaelneel4828 Tell them!! I Luv Ya !!
Terrible, terrible. See Charles Pierce.
Were you even around to see Craig's show ?? He was wonderful!!! Own voice. Not like the queens of today !!that have no talent !!
