Thanks for the review. I have the iRobot S9 and M6. The S9 have been a total workhorse but M6 has been continual headache in having it map my condo properly. The challenge is all the transition strips and the fact I have mostly hardwood/marble/tile with a four large area rugs of various thicknesses. The M6 rides up to the rugs and gets stuck, or it goes in confusing routes. I have tried to reset the unit and redo the map a number of times but no success. I had been looking for iRobot to do a combo unit but after looking at your review and how the moisture gets into the unit and dust bin, it will be a hard no. Thank you so much. Would you be willing to do a comparison for this Roomba vs Roborock S7 MaxV ULTRA ? I love your videos so thorough and short. Makes it so easy for us!! Thank you
Nice review, I do think Irobot is really falling behind as far as technology though. I have the Roomba J7 Plus and the navigation simply is not as good as the lidar bots, I think Irobot needs to get rid of VSLAM and start using Lidar, they can keep the camera on the front for obstacle avoidance but when it comes to mapping, Lidar is far superior. It's good if they included a larger battery in the J7 combo. It seems really expensive for what you get though, for just a little more you can have a robot that navigates better and that can self empty and clean the mop pad. Also the suction and airflow on the J7 bots are much lower than other premium robots. Irobot should have stuck with the motor they used on the S9. I probably will not even consider another Roomba unless they switch to Lidar, out of my 11 robots, the Roomba J7 takes the longest to clean my place, I think companies such as Roborock and Ecovacs are walking all over Irobot with their technology.
I bought a j7+ and have had nothing but problems with it. iRobot said they couldn’t help me and that even though it was not functioning normal I have to just make it work. I said so your saying I wasted $600 and they said have a good day. I got the Roborock S7maxv on a great sale. It’s been amazing. All have their issues but it’s on a totally different level than iRobot products. The only thing better on the j7 is it’s able to detect things on carpet better than the S7max. That can be fixed with an update. Everything else the Roborock is leagues better.
@@matt07497 The s7 maxv is also 2x the cost... No idea what your actual issues were, but you may have had a defective one. The s7 maxv will likely never have object detect as good as the j7+ with a software update. machine vision AI is more flexible than Lidar but also much harder to implement from a programming and circuitry perspective.
@@mrbobsevil I bought the maxv for $1050. So if you bought the j7+ and the separate mop on sale it would be close to the same price. Or the new j7+ I think is around $1k. I had the j7 replaced then the j7 and auto empty replaced then they wouldn’t help anymore. First was a defective main brush module and nav issues. Then nav issues and dust bin collection issues. They said we can see it’s throwing error codes on nav. The suction is way to low so thing would get stuck and cut into the main brushes. Oh and besides having to babysit it all the time. Literally all the time and putting it back on the dock because it would be 10 feet away from the dock and sit until the battery died because it couldn’t find the dock according to the message. The reason why I think the maxv can be as good with object ai is because the maxv has 2 cameras, 2 3D sensors, and the LiDAR, not including other sensors. The j7 has 1 camera, no 3D sensors, and no LiDAR. I have both and compared both and it’s just an inferior design. But 1 camera with focus put on it is easier to program than multiple systems like the s7max. But seeing the potential of the s7max on hard wood floor detection. Being able to pick up a toy on the floor that is 1”x1” from app 10’ away is impressive in my opinion.
@@mrbobsevil I have the j7+ it misses the edges of most rooms. Takes twice as long as my lidar bots. Constantly having issues with it. The only good thing for it is the camera object avoidance
Thanks for another great video. I’m looking forward to seeing you pit it against the Roborock. That last part where you showed the rollers getting wet/contaminated might be solved by running the vacuum and mop operations in separate days to allow the time for the mop to dry out. I did laugh when your cat fell into the box, I knew that was going to happen 😂
Interesting point. The moisture issue in the vacuum area of the Roomba doesn’t seem to be present in any of the other robotic vacuum/mops… could this be a design flaw?!?!
@@lukeclifton4392 I have the roborock S5 max. I always use the mop/vacuum function. Without fail, 100% of all jobs require me to clean some wet dust from the roller compartment.

Glad to hear iRobot did such a good job. My regular J7+ is fantastic. I got it after a lot of research and thanks to your great testing. I always recommend it to people. It just simply “works”!
I have a Roomba S9+ vacuum robot. Does the job in my house. Was looking for a Braava, to mop. I have several thresholds, one allmost 1" tall. The Braava would not climb those, while the S9+ has no problem. What will the J7+ combo do? Will it climb whatever the S9+ was climbing, but as soon as I send it to mop stop like the Braava? This is what I would have liked for you to test. Will a mop setting change this robot's climbing setting. Or maybe it will climb like a Roomba and then move to mop? Does it maybe get stuck, because it won't know what to do, if it encounters a high threshold, while mopping? I mean, this combo robot could be the answer for me, but I need to know what it does with thresholds. How does the vacuum suction compare with the S9+? Thanks for the great review otherwise.
Roborock Ultra is much better navigation--it's like it's not bothered by the carpets at all. But the real downer here with J7+ is there is no water tank on the dock. The BEST THING about Roborock is self cleaning and emptying dust and water!
I can’t wait for robo vacuum five years from now They’d all have moving pads that won’t get on carpet while they vacuum all with empty/fill/self cleaning docs Maybe a directional sense (or a way to set one) so that way it can go “with the grain” on hardwood floors And get into corners better
Which would you recommend the x1 Onmi or this one for mopping? I have mostly bare floors, no carpet except for the bathroom and by the balcony door. Your opinion is appreciated 😊 also your cat is so chunky, can I put my face in its belly 🥰🥰
Have you got any advice on a comparison with a Deebot X1? I wasn't looking at the J7 initially, but i never considered the challenge of mopping and vacuuming at the same time.. I just figured the Deebot X1 wouldn't have tried to mop the carpet..
We haven't compared these specifically, but there were both candidates in our 2022 Best Robot Vacuum competition right here: ua-cam.com/video/UAivdTJsRig/v-deo.html
My regular j7 now lets you “check in” with the robot via its camera and drive it around and look around, poor visibility in low light but wanted to add this update to the unit.
I’m with you there, I went for iRobot as I don’t trust Chinese companies. I don’t like that Amazon are trying to buy them, but I think that’s the lesser of two evils here.
Hi @vacuum wars. As always thank you for another great review. Would you suggest getting the Braava Jet M6 with the Roomba J7+ instead of the Roomba Combo J7+ and have separate untils. One for vacuuming and one for mopping?
Depends if you have pets. Although the J7+ and S9 share maps, unfortunately they don't share avoidance so the J7+/S9 is going to avoid the poop and the M6 is going to mop that shit all over your floors. Based on my research at the moment the best mop is maybe the Ecovacs Omni. It's not great at vacuuming, so I'd still go maybe for a combo unless I had no carpet. Irobot is pretty terrible mops (even the combi), no self cleaning mop and also no vibration or scrubbing on the mop. It's basically dragging around a cloth on your floor. +1 for raising the head over and locking it inside so there is no leakage onto the carpet, but considering the dirt on the rollers, I'd not trust the combo leaving marks after it's mopped (which is likely why it vacuums first) unless you clean it after every run. irobot is just playing catch up and missing out on features, which is after all these years they release a combo with no improvements on a sub-par mopping robot like the M6.
can roombas be set to ‘not’ empty at the end of each run automatically? it would give us more scheduling flexibility if we could separately schedule when it empties - like when we’re not in the house to hear the 747 take off
Yeah, but you need to remove the bag from the self empty station, and the station will detect if there is a bag or not. You can’t do it from the app. YET.
@@VacuumWars thank you! I think it should be mentioned that the T8 AIVI will not work on Raised Textured Tiles, in fact that will break the robot because of how aggressively it drives over them
Due to the review by Vacuum Wars, we purchased a Roborock Ultra S7 a few months ago and have been very pleased so far. Mopping on our light gray tile kitchen floors has to be mopped on the highest setting but does a good job. One note, we have mostly hard floors with some rugs. We love how the mop raises for rugs, the auto-mop cleaning, and how all 3 bins work for fresh water, dirty water, and bagging the dirt!
how do you deal with the smell of death out of the dirty water bin? We've had luck putting vinegar in it, about 1/8 cup every time to stop the mold growth.
@@yourmagicfilm you probably have a defective unit because the Rubber seal on that thing is so good that even if I don't empty it out for 3 weeks, I and everybody else in the house can't smell a thing. I'd recommend getting your Rubber seal checked out and possibly getting the dirty water bin replaced
@@yourmagicfilm 😳😳As another fella said… the seals are so good you shouldn’t be able to smell a thing. But also on another note… are you just using water? or are you using a cleaner?!! Mine smells fresh AF when I empty it every week🤷♂️
It only smells when I empty it, not when it’s just sitting there, so the rubber seals are good. But the moment we open it, it’s horrifying. I’ve looked into it and I am not the only one with this experience, many others have this “death smell”. It’s defeated with vinegar sitting in there each and every time, otherwise the bacteria builds up somehow in there.
Thanks for the great reviews you have done over the years. I recently acquired the roomba j7 combo and it did a great job mapping the house. I am having a hard time getting it to stay out of the keep out zones I added. Given the amount of experience you have with robot vacuums, do you have any suggestions? Thanks!
@jumpingarmadillo I have a suggestion, TRASH or RETURN IT! it has been said that the Roomba J7 has a built in camera that takes pictures of everything in your house, even women on the toilet😱.
We can’t really troubleshoot that for you but we do recommend reaching out to IRobot support. That feature is so helpful - we would hate for you to miss out on it.
I've noticed that the darker green roller is completely different that the launch i7 dark green roller. It has shorter fins and is ribbed. Just like bright green roller. I want to buy replacement rollers for my i7 and it does say that j7 rollers ARE compatible. Interesting
you don't think it's a big deal to have moisture in the brush!?!? I bought robot to have peace of mind and spend my time clean it. I am really happy of my S7 maxV! Thanks to you.
It would be interesting to see how this performs against the M6. I've been looking at Dreame and Ecovacs for the spinning mop design, but I prefer (trust) iRobot as a company.
I highly recommend looking into getting a Narwal. They are the first company to make the worlds first self cleaning robot mop and they just released the new Freo which I'm gonna get on a black Friday sale
I think they need to come out with another mop only successor to the M6. Add the front camera of J7+ and vibration mop pad. Plus have it lift as well. With my M6, I had to remove all the transitions in my house, and just put down black Gorilla tape for the M6 to go over. Even then the M6 likes to ram into corners and things. Even my J7+ for some reason always likes to touch corners when it goes around them and bumps them, instead of clearly avoiding them when going back home. I've tried mapping a dozen times and over a dozen runs and the J7+ still loves to touch up against corners, and lights it light. Like it's still trying to learn.
The dual roller has already been a feature for some time now as we already have that. I'm curious about the pad? I'm guessing the pad is always up until it gets to the mopping mode? If that's the case then we can more easily change the pad after each use unlike the irobot mopping counterpat. Curious what the fail rate is if the mop arms mechanism us and what the cost of that repair would be or would you game to get a new unit? Does the subscription cover any of these repairs or maintenance?
It would be incredible if you could also review the Roborock Q7 Max+. This robot especially looks like a great buy with Black Friday deals and there are reviews on UA-cam, but none seem to be as comprehensive as the vacuum wars testing methodology.
Proud owner of a Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra (thanks to your videos!) Got to agree with how efficiently the S7 cleans. Goes around the perimeter of the room once and does efficient straight lines after. I'm a Roomba fan and while the S7 more expensive than the J7, I would still choose my S7 over a new J7. Until Roomba comes out with an base that's like the Ultras, it's not a fair fight lol

Thank you so much. Would you be willing to do a comparison for this Roomba vs Roborock S7 MaxV ULTRA ? I love your videos so thorough and short. Makes it so easy for us!! Thank you
We basically compared those in our Best Robot Vacuums 2022 video right here - ua-cam.com/video/UAivdTJsRig/v-deo.html - hope that helps!
@@VacuumWars Sorry. Thank you so very much!
Hi. Great video. Do you know if J7 can avoid pet urine?
Do you think a j7+ braava jet m6 combo would be better than this?
M6 would always be better this is not hood
Yes
What would you buy, J7+ or S7 MaxV Ultra?
you said u dont find the dual brush on any other brand thats wrong the ecovacs t9 aivi has the same brush system and even the same brushes
How does it compare to the dedicated M6? (curious as I have a regular J7+ and an M6)
Thanks for the great reviews :)
The j7+ navigation is maybe the best in the industry. machine vision and ai object recognition are the future.
I freaking love this channel.
Aw thank you!
I'll stock with my Roborock S7 plus for the win 🏆
I bought the Roborock and find that I can let it do it's thing, with monthly maintenance and cleaning my kitchen floor with another device once a month as well. Been very happy, but wanted a Roomba so waiting to see what your head to head conclusions are!

Roborock is leaps and bounds better than iRobot. Trust me I’ve owned 9 different robot vacuums.
Glad to hear iRobot did such a good job. My regular J7+ is fantastic. I got it after a lot of research and thanks to your great testing. I always recommend it to people. It just simply “works”!
Great to hear!
Same, I’m loving my J7 and wouldn’t go for anything else.
Thanks for the review VW! Well done. However the robot is still just dragging a dirty mop pad around.
Whats the power input of ROOMBA J7+
Is it 100-240VAC? Please reply
What does "pure robot vacuum" mean? I thought it meant a robot that just vacuums. but this one mops as well?
Just got mine. Does it make a grinding noise when turning right? Wanted to see if this was normal
Roborock Ultra is much better navigation--it's like it's not bothered by the carpets at all. But the real downer here with J7+ is there is no water tank on the dock. The BEST THING about Roborock is self cleaning and emptying dust and water!
I’m waiting on a non-combo update from Roomba. I’m hoping they combine the suction of the S9 with the intelligence of the J7 in their next release.
there is already a j7 (Not j7+) vacum only unit you can buy for $300 cheaper.
I can’t wait for robo vacuum five years from now
They’d all have moving pads that won’t get on carpet while they vacuum all with empty/fill/self cleaning docs
Maybe a directional sense (or a way to set one) so that way it can go “with the grain” on hardwood floors
And get into corners better
You made no mention of what appeared to be an epic failure on the UV testing
Which is better for home with only wood floors - the roomba combo or the roborock max ultra?
Have you seen our recent Best Robot Vacuum Competition? ua-cam.com/video/UAivdTJsRig/v-deo.html
that poor cat made my day. 🤣
thanks for the video. very informative. 😀
That's great! Thanks!
Which would you recommend the x1 Onmi or this one for mopping? I have mostly bare floors, no carpet except for the bathroom and by the balcony door. Your opinion is appreciated 😊 also your cat is so chunky, can I put my face in its belly 🥰🥰
So a dyson is not in the recommended list of Cordless at all?
What’s the Best robot vacuum if you just want it to vacuum?
Can u try the xiaomi robots for comparaison since they r super cheap compared to the market medium
How about avoiding cat fur balls? Can it avoid fur balls as it does pet waste?
My regular j7 now lets you “check in” with the robot via its camera and drive it around and look around, poor visibility in low light but wanted to add this update to the unit.
Have you tested the Ecozy ld200b? Have not seen it yet and looks to be not bad as a entry type robot vacuum.
What about hairs will they pick up
Great review as always. It would however be great if you would include privacy as a factor when reviewing robot vacuums.
Thank you!
What are your concerns? The company stores a map of your house and knows how many times you vacuumed the room labeled “kitchen”.
This is the primary reason that I haven't moved more innovative companies like Roborock.
@@BLKSG6 internet enabled devices are notorious for being hacked
I’m with you there, I went for iRobot as I don’t trust Chinese companies. I don’t like that Amazon are trying to buy them, but I think that’s the lesser of two evils here.
I would like to see a test of customer service performance such as courtesy, knowledge, ease of use and responsiveness.
have you tested any of the Bissell models
Would love a comparison of hardfloor/tiles only vacuum robots - where you get the best value for mopping per price.
+1 for raising the head over and locking it inside so there is no leakage onto the carpet, but considering the dirt on the rollers, I'd not trust the combo leaving marks after it's mopped (which is likely why it vacuums first) unless you clean it after every run.
irobot is just playing catch up and missing out on features, which is after all these years they release a combo with no improvements on a sub-par mopping robot like the M6.
can roombas be set to ‘not’ empty at the end of each run automatically? it would give us more scheduling flexibility if we could separately schedule when it empties - like when we’re not in the house to hear the 747 take off
…the RoboRock can🙂
Answer to your question: no
Yeah, but you need to remove the bag from the self empty station, and the station will detect if there is a bag or not. You can’t do it from the app. YET.
Yes turn on do not disturb
can you review which vacuum dock is less messier to maintain?i saw a post on reddlt where they forgot to clean the roborock dock and it was clogged
Are the airflow results the same as the regular j7+? On some clips that I've seen it does sound noticeably louder than the j7+.
It had almost identical numbers, maybe a little higher than the original. Same on the deep clean test.
Once again your videos helped get another robot vacuum. This one should hopefully be more reliable than the Ecovacs T8 AIVI. Fingers Crossed
Hope you enjoy it! Thank you for watching!
@@VacuumWars thank you! I think it should be mentioned that the T8 AIVI will not work on Raised Textured Tiles, in fact that will break the robot because of how aggressively it drives over them
Question is who mop better roborock or Roomba?
Due to the review by Vacuum Wars, we purchased a Roborock Ultra S7 a few months ago and have been very pleased so far. Mopping on our light gray tile kitchen floors has to be mopped on the highest setting but does a good job. One note, we have mostly hard floors with some rugs. We love how the mop raises for rugs, the auto-mop cleaning, and how all 3 bins work for fresh water, dirty water, and bagging the dirt!
Thanks for sharing! So glad to have helped!
how do you deal with the smell of death out of the dirty water bin?
Are the treads on the main wheels different too?
Do you know its height clearence for carpets? Mine is a bit thick and even the S9 struggles a bit.
Great info, as usual. A comprehensive test of its mapping and navigation would be very helpful.
Great review. Great cat feat.
Thanks!
First! I’ve been waiting for this!
Can you do a self emptying robot comparison like you did with the mopping and so obstacle avoidance tests?
Thanks! Tryin to keep up! We will try!

Planning to do a top 5 robot vacuum 2022 video?
I've noticed that the darker green roller is completely different that the launch i7 dark green roller. It has shorter fins and is ribbed. Just like bright green roller.
I want to buy replacement rollers for my i7 and it does say that j7 rollers ARE compatible. Interesting
interesting!
you don't think it's a big deal to have moisture in the brush!?!? I bought robot to have peace of mind and spend my time clean it. I am really happy of my S7 maxV! Thanks to you.
It would be interesting to see how this performs against the M6. I've been looking at Dreame and Ecovacs for the spinning mop design, but I prefer (trust) iRobot as a company.
I highly recommend looking into getting a Narwal. They are the first company to make the worlds first self cleaning robot mop and they just released the new Freo which I'm gonna get on a black Friday sale
iRobot fell behind few years ago. This is the result. Old tech
@Tommyownzz Not as much as Neato. I don’t think you’ve heard of them in the past 2 years, right?
@@Tommyownzz Yep. Stopped trusting them after trying out their highest end model, and it flopped.
iRobot J7+ vs Roborock S7 Ultra MaxV vid?
Please help me compare Dreame L10S ultra and Roborock S7maxV ultra. Thanks for help
Is the internal dust bin interchangeable from j7+ to j7 combo because of the water reservoir?
I have the j7+, what if I buy the j7 combo can I change the Roomba on the same clean base
We are putting the finishing touches on that Q7 Max review now! It will be ready at 4pm EST today!

Roomba j7 combo or Roborock s8?
Proud owner of a Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra (thanks to your videos!) Got to agree with how efficiently the S7 cleans. Goes around the perimeter of the room once and does efficient straight lines after. I'm a Roomba fan and while the S7 more expensive than the J7, I would still choose my S7 over a new J7. Until Roomba comes out with an base that's like the Ultras, it's not a fair fight lol
