      But in all seriousness - adorably surprised kitty notwithstanding - I came here because I’m desperately seeking a replacement for my old iRobot Scooba.
      These versions with the pads, while “easier” just do not have the same cleaning horsepower of flooding the floor with clean water and then squeegeeing back up like the old Scooba, RIP.
      I wish that iRobot would just do 2 segments of products - 1 for those who don’t want to do any robot maintenance, and 1 for those who enjoy it because of the absolutely amazing results.
      Here’s hoping that you do a full review of the Shinebot by iLife, because it’s the only one I’ve found that functions with the clean/dirty tanks like the Scooba.
      (PS - I think this endless pursuit of one machine that can do everything is madness. They end up doing nothing super well.)
      Thanks for all the amazing info, camera shots and dedication - as always! And give that kitty a pet for me 😂❤

    I’ve been using a Roomba j7+ to vacuum my entire upstairs for 8 months. It’s fantastic. Our white carpet still looks flawless. And I’m able to completely forget about the Roomba for weeks at a time. It just takes care of itself. And the “Clean Base” bag goes for more like 3 or 4 months in our house.

      You'll love your S7 MaxV Ultra. The pad cleaning and auto refill on the ultra dock is a game changer on top of the generally better mapping and navigation. The Roomba pad lifting mechanism is better for more plush carpets, but I don't see that alone being a reason to prefer this if you have money for the Roborock.

    I'm hoping Roomba updates their mop line of robots. I'd personally rather have a dedicated mop vacuum as a robot focused on mopping should do the job much better than a combo unit. It could also have a clean base that is dedicated to cleaning and refilling the mop.

      Definitely. Dedicated device (no vacuum constraints to get in the way), so potential for a larger reservoir and better mopping hardware. Plus from a battery-life standpoint you have two devices, so you're not worrying about mopping not getting done because it ran out of battery after vacuuming. Not to mention you can have one device vacuuming while the other mops (so ideally jobs get done faster). I really hope they come out with something similar to the j7+ (dedicated vacuum) that's a mopping robot.

      @@VacuumWars I bought one of Amazon NL with an amazing deal last week. For some reason they put it up for €699 while every other webshop has it for sale for €999. That's a 30% discount 😅 Strangely enough Amazon NL didn't say that €699 was a discount price, it just showed it as the regular price. Three days later they changed the price back to €999. I'm happy with the robot so far! It's more quiet when cleaning than my Neato D7 (except for the fighter jet self cleaning base at the end of a run), cleans well, the app is full of useful features. I have noticed though that this robot doesn't seem to use it's camera for anything other than obstacle recognition like cables and slippers. I mean, it will bump into every large furniture or object in my room and use its bumper to realize it's bumping into a solid non-movable object. This does mean that it will go through for example a bed sheet that's almost touching the floor while hanging on a drying rack to clean underneath the drying rack which is nice, my Neato D7 with it's LIDAR system would think the bedsheet was a solid object and would not go through the bedsheet. So I'm guessing it's only using the bumpers and floor scanner underneath to figure out the layout of the room.

    Due to the review by Vacuum Wars, we purchased a Roborock Ultra S7 a few months ago and have been very pleased so far. Mopping on our light gray tile kitchen floors has to be mopped on the highest setting but does a good job. One note, we have mostly hard floors with some rugs. I don’t understand why iRobot don’t bring a roomba s10 out which has the power of the s9 or more and also has a mop function where it sprays water but also has rotating brushes? Oh and a clean base which would self clean the pads & dry them. Also a tank so it could fill up and go back to the job if need be. I just don’t understand why iRobot wouldn’t do this? Nice review, I do think Irobot is really falling behind as far as technology though. I have the Roomba J7 Plus and the navigation simply is not as good as the lidar bots, I think Irobot needs to get rid of VSLAM and start using Lidar, they can keep the camera on the front for obstacle avoidance but when it comes to mapping, Lidar is far superior. It's good if they included a larger battery in the J7 combo. It seems really expensive for what you get though, for just a little more you can have a robot that navigates better and that can self empty and clean the mop pad. Also the suction and airflow on the J7 bots are much lower than other premium robots. Irobot should have stuck with the motor they used on the S9. I probably will not even consider another Roomba unless they switch to Lidar, out of my 11 robots, the Roomba J7 takes the longest to clean my place, I think companies such as Roborock and Ecovacs are walking all over Irobot with their technology.

    • @mrbobsevil

      I bought a j7+ and have had nothing but problems with it. iRobot said they couldn’t help me and that even though it was not functioning normal I have to just make it work. I said so your saying I wasted $600 and they said have a good day.
      I got the Roborock S7maxv on a great sale. It’s been amazing. All have their issues but it’s on a totally different level than iRobot products. The only thing better on the j7 is it’s able to detect things on carpet better than the S7max. That can be fixed with an update. Everything else the Roborock is leagues better.

    • @mrbobsevil
      @mrbobsevil 2 роки тому +2

      @@matt07497 The s7 maxv is also 2x the cost... No idea what your actual issues were, but you may have had a defective one.
      The s7 maxv will likely never have object detect as good as the j7+ with a software update. machine vision AI is more flexible than Lidar but also much harder to implement from a programming and circuitry perspective.

    • @matt07497
      @matt07497 2 роки тому +3

      @@mrbobsevil I bought the maxv for $1050. So if you bought the j7+ and the separate mop on sale it would be close to the same price. Or the new j7+ I think is around $1k.
      I had the j7 replaced then the j7 and auto empty replaced then they wouldn’t help anymore. First was a defective main brush module and nav issues. Then nav issues and dust bin collection issues. They said we can see it’s throwing error codes on nav. The suction is way to low so thing would get stuck and cut into the main brushes.
      Oh and besides having to babysit it all the time. Literally all the time and putting it back on the dock because it would be 10 feet away from the dock and sit until the battery died because it couldn’t find the dock according to the message. The reason why I think the maxv can be as good with object ai is because the maxv has 2 cameras, 2 3D sensors, and the LiDAR, not including other sensors. The j7 has 1 camera, no 3D sensors, and no LiDAR. I have both and compared both and it’s just an inferior design. But 1 camera with focus put on it is easier to program than multiple systems like the s7max. But seeing the potential of the s7max on hard wood floor detection. Being able to pick up a toy on the floor that is 1”x1” from app 10’ away is impressive in my opinion.

    Thanks for the review. I have the iRobot S9 and M6. The S9 have been a total workhorse but M6 has been continual headache in having it map my condo properly. The challenge is all the transition strips and the fact I have mostly hardwood/marble/tile with a four large area rugs of various thicknesses. The M6 rides up to the rugs and gets stuck, or it goes in confusing routes. I have tried to reset the unit and redo the map a number of times but no success. I had been looking for iRobot to do a combo unit but after looking at your review and how the moisture gets into the unit and dust bin, it will be a hard no. I have three hairy cats and the condo has a lot of dust and dander. No way I will be getting a machine that I will have to continuously dig out wet fur. Depends if you have pets. Although the J7+ and S9 share maps, unfortunately they don't share avoidance so the J7+/S9 is going to avoid the poop and the M6 is going to mop that shit all over your floors.
      Based on my research at the moment the best mop is maybe the Ecovacs Omni. It's not great at vacuuming, so I'd still go maybe for a combo unless I had no carpet. Irobot is pretty terrible mops (even the combi), no self cleaning mop and also no vibration or scrubbing on the mop. It's basically dragging around a cloth on your floor. +1 for raising the head over and locking it inside so there is no leakage onto the carpet, but considering the dirt on the rollers, I'd not trust the combo leaving marks after it's mopped (which is likely why it vacuums first) unless you clean it after every run.
      irobot is just playing catch up and missing out on features, which is after all these years they release a combo with no improvements on a sub-par mopping robot like the M6.

    I have a Roomba S9+ vacuum robot. Does the job in my house. Was looking for a Braava, to mop. I have several thresholds, one allmost 1" tall. The Braava would not climb those, while the S9+ has no problem.
    What will the J7+ combo do? Will it climb whatever the S9+ was climbing, but as soon as I send it to mop stop like the Braava? This is what I would have liked for you to test. Will a mop setting change this robot's climbing setting.
    Or maybe it will climb like a Roomba and then move to mop? Does it maybe get stuck, because it won't know what to do, if it encounters a high threshold, while mopping?
    I mean, this combo robot could be the answer for me, but I need to know what it does with thresholds.
    How does the vacuum suction compare with the S9+?
    Thanks for the great review otherwise.

      I have J7+ robot vacuum and predominantly laminate wood floors. I would say it does great with pet fur, hair, dust, and other fine debris (I.e., small crumbs). For more solid dirt or anything larger than what I just mentioned, I have to run the vacuum twice and even still it doesn’t always pick those up. I don’t have the mop feature but I can’t imagine it doing better than Swiffer

Hope that helps.

If that's the case then we can more easily change the pad after each use unlike the irobot mopping counterpat. Curious what the fail rate is if the mop arms mechanism us and what the cost of that repair would be or would you game to get a new unit? I think they need to come out with another mop only successor to the M6. Add the front camera of J7+ and vibration mop pad. Plus have it lift as well. With my M6, I had to remove all the transitions in my house, and just put down black Gorilla tape for the M6 to go over. Even then the M6 likes to ram into corners and things. Even my J7+ for some reason always likes to touch corners when it goes around them and bumps them, instead of clearly avoiding them when going back home. I've tried mapping a dozen times and over a dozen runs and the J7+ still loves to touch up against corners, and lights it light. Like it's still trying to learn.

    I mean, isn't it just dragging a wet rag around when mopping? Is this really where the level of iRobot's innovation is atm? I would've thought RoboRock et al with their vibrating/rotating mops etc would absolutely demolish this stone-age design in comparison tests?

      Too many unknown factors involved for us to guess with intuition (similar to how he determines roombas clean carpets a little better, even though they have less suction). This is why we need testing, to find out if what we “think” should be true, actually is.
