  • These Douglas fir logs have some cracks through the center and some ring shake with pitch pockets. I am milling around them in a way that isolate the defects to a minimum number of boards. I am milling with a Woodmizer LT15 Start sawmill.The lumber is being milled from trees off my off grid property to build a small cabin.

    Here's a funny confession, my husband is a retired small time builder contractor. He loves watching your channel with his early morning coffee, he loves learning about the technicality of a cut. He is more used to just grabbing lumber from a stack & go, which means good or bad, lumber is going in place. Now that he is semi retired he is more selective about lumber, he purchased his starter mill. He uses more fuel than the lumber he produces for his projects around the property & house, you wanna talk about weird, he rants about how well he cut a particular log and made it into building lumber. He will stand there with his cup and look at a log for minutes before he cuts, then stops looks again, well you know the drill.

      Heh, most of us watching fall into the same category and with the same habits you describe.
      It's a syndrome. (But, a good 'un.)

      If your husband is a building contractor, when I start building something, he might see that as a comedy show. It might be more laughing than learning for him. 😁

      @@WilsonForestLands I am sure you are skilled at what you do, he does not doubt it. Your humbleness and expertise shows your caliber as a craftsman. My husband does not watch know it all's & hacks.You are definitely very far from that.

    Have you ever had problems with the rail after rolling big logs over them? Woodmizer tells me that's why they don't sell log ramps for the lt15 wide, because that would void the warranty. I figured I would just build some that sat over the top of the rail, but I'd have to take them off and put them back between every log.

    • @WilsonForestLands
      @WilsonForestLands  9 місяців тому

      Sometimes I have had the bed segments misalign some if I put a lot of weight on them. That’s partly because the feet are not evenly supported because they don’t turn and adjust any more. And on the LT 15 start, only one side of the bed rails are pinned together, the other side are just held by frictions of bolts pulling them together.

    In the subject of government, if you take a look at the folks just within a growing city. It appears that these city officials create a job position to spread their tentacles to encroach on someone's simple lifestyles. Most of these folks that are employees of such positions appear to be non physical people or people that no longer want to work physically. So in turn what they once were, now they are against them because they are no longer doing it and their job happens to be real simple but pays fairly decently, kinda like free money. I have seen this from town to town, city to city. We are in the southeast no restrictions in many areas YET, but it is closing in.

    • @WilsonForestLands
      @WilsonForestLands  9 місяців тому +1

      Out here a lot of people are moving to places where there aren’t many restrictions. Before long they bring in all the people that make all the restrictions. it seems to be moving into every corner now.

    What if someone tried to put a toxic waste dump next to your property? Then you might change your mind about the government minding someone else's business.

    • @WilsonForestLands
      @WilsonForestLands  9 місяців тому +3

      My comments were intended to be satire for entertainment purposes, especially as it eventually got to the level of Yosemite Sam. If we were to get serious about it, your point is valid.

    • @Bryan-yl7mg
      @Bryan-yl7mg 9 місяців тому

      Except the government would likely approve it when the companies looking to dump that waste pay them enough.

    • @WilsonForestLands
      @WilsonForestLands  9 місяців тому +4

      Another valid point in some cases. The world is full of gray areas. Some aspects of government can be useful when we need them. Other aspects of government are completely ridiculous.
