This actually made me feel so seen about my feelings towards the ruling - I had a hard time and broke down that evening but didn’t know if anyone felt this way too. This totally helped knowing I’m not alone with feeling this way. Love you Gretchen!!
I think one of the things I admire about you the most is your empathy and all the feelings you expressed at the end are you feeling empathy for the thousands of women affected by this decision. I don't think it's inappropriate, or something to feel guilty about at all, in fact your empathy and your emotions are something to be proud of! The argument that people only follow you for "fun" content posits on the assumption that you're not a fully-fledged person with opinions and ideas beyond the "fun" aspects of your life, and that's just not a realistic expectation for anyone to put on you. I appreciate your passion, honesty and vulnerabilty!
I LOVE your positivity, it does help me be more optimistic about life, but I also LOVE when you show yourself in real moments (about your dad, missing max and Lucy, your mom, and about what’s going on in the world) bc then I get to connect with you as a person. And that’s why I watch UA-cam! To feel genuine connection and that’s why I stay with you as you show your life. Yes, continue to be happy and the light you are- but I also love that I can feel that I’m not the only one who cries, or hates saying bye to my sister. So keep showing that kind of thing too!! As someone who works in the activism/advocacy space and who has been watching you since we were both in high school, I really appreciate you being vocal about this! A lot of people who say that you should shy away from talking about these issues (aka every day life) probably don’t recognize the privileges that they have in being able to not live in constant fear every second. As an influencer, you have platform and resources to enact change and I think that can go hand in hand with your content! You share your life and this is a part of your life. I trust that you wouldn’t want people who don’t believe in basic human rights and equity to follow you anyway, so don’t hold back! I really appreciate your openness and a lot of us *do* pay attention to which influencers/celebrities/people with platforms & money are vocal about these issues. Keep your head high, Gretchen! 💓

It is definitely so hard to try to stay so positive and optimistic when big things are happening in the world that could directly effect us in the future … I think speaking out is important because it helps us all cope .

We all cried when Roe vs. Wade got overturned. On the one hand I feel lucky to be in Boston and know that my state supports my right to choose. However I am especially devastated for the millions of people (particularly POC who will be disproportionally affected by this) across the U.S. who don’t have the means to travel across borders to access basic healthcare. Dark times we’re in. Speak out and MAKE SURE YOUR MALE FRIENDS ARE SPEAKING UP. Apparently they have more power and say in this country than we do.

I would encourage you to read the actual court decision. You have every right to be upset and my comment is not at all to take away from that but I’ve found a lot of social media articles have been more alarmist than fact.
