    In the deleted scene, there was supposed to be a family. The reason the spino continued to chase the humans is bc Cooper killed the baby. We all know how much of a troubled production jp3 had.

      That's smart. And it makes sense. Two shots, two dino's dead. The roar we hear could;ve been a scream of defiance, or final death scream. He was attacked by the baby, mom and dad found them, tried to kill and sadly human won that battle and mom gave chase.@@zeger2766

      @@MLPIceberg that never bothered me. The Spino had a mysterious presence to it and it was just so full on an aggressive. If you listen carefully to the scene, you can hear six gunshots. The gunshots sound like three pairs fired from three different rifles, I believe Nash and Udesky fired two rounds each as the first two pairs are in quick succession of each other with a slight pause between both pairs, and then Cooper fires two rounds for the third pair.
    I think the scene played out like this:
    "Cooper being the point man with his large calibre 'Iron Horn 20mm' rifle is walking several meters out in front of Nash and Udesky to recon the surrounding area. Cooper then stumbles across the Spinosaurus' nesting site.
    A juvenile catches Cooper by surprise as it charges towards him, he knows he won't be able to get his rifle up in time to fire a round, so he uses his rifle to shield himself as the juvenile crashes into him and pins him to the ground. Cooper is struggling to hold the juvenile away, but the juvenile manages to injure Cooper's left shoulder in the struggle.
    The adult roars after hearing the commotion and distress coming from her nesting site and starts making her way to her nest, just a few seconds before Nash and Udesky see Cooper struggling to fend of the juvenile Spinosaurus from a few meters away.
    With no time to run to their partner's aid both Nash and Udesky raise their rifles, (Nash using a Heckler & Koch SL8-1 and Udesky using a Steyr AUG A1) and fire two rounds each, hitting and injuring the juvenile as it staggers away. They spot the adult Spinosaurus making her way to her nest through their scopes.
    Both Nash and Udesky start sprinting back to the aircraft in fear and in realisation that they have to get the rest of the group on the aircraft, get it started and get it in the air. The adult Spinosaurus continues to close down the distance to her nest whilst letting loose another thunderous roar.
    Cooper quickly stands up and with effort raises his rifle as the juvenile staggers towards him, he fires two rounds at the injured juvenile and it collapses to the floor lifeless. Knowing the weight of his rifle will slow him down, he ditches his rifle, holds his injured arm and takes of running in the aircraft's direction."

      I love this comment. However I'm skeptical that Cooper, being injured, actually hit anything. If anything, Udesky an Nash's shot killed the infant and Cooper missed his shots. Because let's be honest, just a single shot from that 20mm would have floored the adult Spino permanently. We were shown at the beginning of the movie what those rounds could do. If Cooper had hit the Spino, the movie would have ended with Cooper and company leaving in the plane.

      @@kyrios1120 I personally think that the spino was sleeping, and one of the shots from the mercenaries woke it up.
      And people (or in this case dinosaurs) typically get angry if they are interrupted in their sleep. Therefore causing the spino to run after whatever it saw first (which was probably Cooper)
      Then again like the other guy said, not only did they (in this case) wake up the spino from it's slumber, they also hit its fin with a FREAKING plane, In my opinion the spino chasing after the group after they hit its fin with a plane is totally fair.
      And.
      I don't think a predator who hunts other dinosaurs would care for those dinosaurs, and in this case it is probably the spino.
      And.
      Even though it is grusome to see people die, if you think about it again, the dino is just doing what it does regularly. It hunts (at least in this movie)

    I always liked the idea there were two adult spinos, and the plane killed the one that ate cooper, and Its Mate is the one chasing them, because it has no wound from getting chopped up by a propeller. The Cooper killed a baby spino fits that theory too

    • @Dmgkisapika112
      @Dmgkisapika112 Рік тому +159

      That’s what I thought based on the blood on the windshield during take off. The parents took longer to go after cooper to check on the baby, then one chased after him, enraged. The plane struck that one, and the remaining Spino was hellbent on chasing the others. Like the velociraptors having higher intelligence and knowing who took the eggs (the humans in general), it’s possible that the last spino remembered and was looking for the third merc it saw (Sandusky) but he was killed by the velociraptors. Not knowing this, that could be why it was so determined even after all 3 mercs were gone.

    • @restionSerpentine
      @restionSerpentine Рік тому

      And that was a lot of blood, definetly was not just grazing the spinosaurus, and the remaining spino showed no damage to its sail or side, and I doubt that much blood could have come from just hitting the sail.@@Dmgkisapika112

    • @chrislee5362
      @chrislee5362 11 місяців тому +30

      I agree with this theory. I have always thought there were two spinos. Back before the movie came out, there was a spino toy that was much more dull in color, and it had a pretty badly injured sail. I've watched the movie over, and over, trying to find the wound from the propeller. I have noticed a possible scar, but that doesn't make sense considering the injury was just sustained, and shouldn't have already been a scat. Going back to that toy... I've always thought the spino looks a lot less colorful in that first appearance. Knowing how male animals tend to stand out more, which they use to get a mate, and seeing this to be true for the raptors in the same movie, with the males being much more interesting looking than the female, I think the female spino died. Probably not right away, but very soon after killing Cooper.

  • @graterthan3628
    @graterthan3628 Рік тому +232

    I like the theory. But my head canon is that the mercs were in the jungle. Cooper may have climbed a tree to get a better vantage point. Then the spino attacks them, knocking him out of the tree where he compound fractures his arm. The rifle he has is a Barrett M82A2, which can not be fired with one hand accurately. Either Cooper fired the rifle wildly, hoping the sound would scare the dinosaur off or he dropped it and fired his side arm (which we see the other mercs had as well). Upon seeing the 9mm can not puncture the hide of the Spino he bolts for the air strip. (The other mercs likely ran because they assumed he was going to die anyways since he was so close to the Spino). He was able to outrun the Spino due to the thick jungle which we see later the spino has trouble navigating).

It makes sense that the spino that got hit by the plane was different to the one who persues them for the rest of the movie because A. The spino is obviously injured by the plane but the one later on has no sign of injury and B. being hit in the sail like that would break bone and possibly paralize if not kill the one hit.
    I don't think the Spinos could reproduce asexually as there's nothing in their genome to allow it, Blue can reproduce Asexually due to her Black Throated Monitor DNA in her genome. The Spinos would have likely had the same Tree Frog DNA used for the rest of the Dinos that allowed them to gender switch. So you'd need a pair to breed, making it likely you have two parents and their clutch.

      But as the rest of the dinosaurs were switching gender to breed it basically rules them having the genes for Parthenogenesis out. Also there's nothing in the Spinos genome to allow Parthenogenesis. So it's much more likely they had a pair.

A lot of scenes don't make sense and are just plot devices but they still work. It's fine the actor in the behind the scenes wanted to flesh out his role, but it wasn't required. To this day, I had wondered how Cooper's arm got bloodied, yet he'd survived enough to make it to the runway. Having been a kid when it was released, I'd never really thought about it.... But nowadays, having fallen in love with how the movies of my youth were made, Cooper's predicament mystified me. Looking back, Cooper was armed with a .50 Caliber Barrett Anti- Material Rifle; he'd have left visual wounds on the Spinosaurus, but yet its mouth and claws werent bloody until it grabbed Coop off the runway. It makes sense he had either cut himself in a fall, or compund fractured his upper arm, as he wouldve kept the AMR, and laid down suppreive fire ( which requires two hands for recoil control, especially when the rifle isnt mounted to anything with the bipod)
    I was also curious as to why Udesky and/or Nash never spoke about what they had seen- it would have made slightly more sense, as we (and the group) see the Velociraptor nests and what happened once they were disturbed; if they'd disturbed and killed a baby in a Spinosaurus nest, Udesky couldve revealed it when they came across the raptor nests.

    I have a theory of what might've happened: Rather than come across a juvenile Spinosaurus, what if they had stumbled onto the nest in which there were still unhatched eggs that were close to hatching, but they are attacked by a group of dinosaurs or a single dinosaur looking to steal eggs from the nest or already having eaten a few of the eggs. Unfortunately, before they kill it off, the mother comes along, sees what's going on and she tries to kill the mercenaries and egg thief dinosaur(s), in which the egg thief is either shot in the crossfire or killed by the spino, but not before injuring Cooper. Nash and Udesky retreat and leave Cooper to fend for himself, shooting at the spino just enough to help him get away to where he ditches his gun and makes a run for the plane, only for the spino to follow him.
    Just a possible fun theory I thought about when watching this video (:

    The rifle question use to be a hot topic waaaay back in the day on JP forums. My guess was always that the gunshots heard were from Cooper's pistol, not his massive 20mm rifle. It's a movie, sure, so realism probably doesn't factor in much but you don't fire a 20mm rifle on your feet or on the run. The fact you hear the shots but no exploding rounds and the fact they are fired in quick succession also makes it seem like the shots were not from the 20mm. I just always assumed he had dumped the rifle so he could haul ass and fired his pistol while on the run. But alas, it's a movie and a very messy one at that so any theory is as good as the next. Maybe he pulled a Dieter Stark and lost his rifle and hurt his arm after falling down a hill trying to take a piss.

    I got this figured out. I think my theory is a little bit different but it makes the most sense to me. Cooper and the other mercs go into the jungle and encounter a nest. A baby spinosaurus attacks Cooper, biting his arm.
    Cooper does not shoot the baby spinosaurus instead he uses a melee weapon most likely the machete he had on him. As soon as this happens the mother spinosaurus comes and roars. This is the first roar we hear. The other mercs both fire off 3 rounds at the mother but miss probably because they are scared shitless and are under pressure.
    They leave Cooper behind. At this point there had to have been distance between the mother and Cooper because he would have had to have gotten to his gun, then shot 2 times at the spinosaurus.
    The reason why the spinosaurus didn't just kill him is because the bullets if you remember are incendiary, meaning the fire most likely spooked the mother spinosaurus like the fire did at the end of the movie giving Cooper time to escape. Cooper drops his gun and flees.
    The only reason he missed is because he was also under pressure and he was already wounded from the baby.
    Edit: I would like to add one more thing to my theory. There was probably more of a struggle between Cooper and the baby spinosaurus. You see there had to of been a reason the two other mercs left him to die because the situation had to of been really bad for them. I think while cooper fought off the baby the mother came and started moving towards the group meaning that the other two mercs started focusing on that. They both shot at it, missed and saw that the situation seemed hopeless and ran off. Then cooper kills the baby with a melee weapon and grabs his gun and shoots at the mother. I don't think the other mercs shot the baby spinosaurus because they could have hit Cooper. Rifle rounds would have gone clean through. And maybe they could have attempted to help cooper in his struggle but keep in mind this is a large wild animal (Even though its a baby.) and it probably wouldn't have been easy to fight it off while also having to deal with an even bigger threat coming thier way so the other two mercs just said screw this and left. Also I just can't see Cooper shooting the baby that close with the type of gun he had otherwise he would have set himself on fire. There had to of been a way for Cooper to get away from the mother because there is no way something that fast wouldn't have gotten to him. There had to of been a way Cooper kept the mother at bay giving him time to escape so he shot at it and the fire scared the mother off momentarily.

    By the start of the video and how the scene progresses, I actually thought it was his weapon that malfunctioned, post the 2 shots fired; injuring him. However given the greater context of the film and the further explanation of this scene, it makes more sense that there were baby spinos also explaining the mothers vengeance.

    @VitZ9 Місяць тому +1

    First let me say, I love your videos! I always enjoy hearing your different theories about my favourite film franchise! 😊
    That said, I did want to clarify that it actually would be very possible for Cooper to miss at point blank range with a weapon like that. In fact, firing a weapon of that size while standing would at the very least dislocate his shoulder, without a dinosaur attack.
    Cooper is carrying a modified Barrett M82A2 20mm, called Einhorn in the movie, loaded with high explosive incendiary rounds. This is a prototype weapon designed with the purpose of shooting down helicopters, that can be fired from the shoulder while standing. It is no longer in production because the recoil was simply too powerful for one man to hold standing and fire accurately.
    Additionally, Coopers has been heavily modified with a ridiculously large scope and extended barrel, adding a lot of weight to the weapon and making it very unwieldy to hold in the hand. When we see him at the airfield, he has to lie down to fire it to absorb the recoil, and it's supported by a stand at the end of the barrel. And when he first enters the jungle, the weapon is so excessively large, it looks like he is carrying a giant spear.
    In short, there is absolutely no way Cooper could accurately fire a weapon of that size, with such a large recoil, while standing. Doing so would at least dislocate his shoulder if not tear it out of the socket, and he would fall over backwards. Even Arnold Schwarzenegger at his peak fitness would struggle to stand and fire that thing. 😆
    Now obviously he did manage to get some shots off, which is an absolute miracle and could only happen in the movies, and maybe that's what injured his shoulder?
    But when you also consider he would be terrified, shaking, sweating and panicked, combined with the powerful recoil of that weapon kicking the barrel up with every shot, he could have easily missed multiple shots at point blank range.
    Had Cooper had the time to set it up and lie down in position with the weapon, it would be a different story. Just one of those rounds is powerful enough to rip the Spinosaurus in half, and we wouldn't have a very long movie! 😆
    It's actually very similar to what happens with Roland in TLW, which isn't that surprising considering Joe Johnston liked to reuse elements of TLW with Billy's lucky strap.
    If Nick didn't steal Roland's ammo, Roland's "elephant gun" would have blown a hole in the T-Rex large enough to walk through. But instead he could only tranquilize it, and so the San Diego incident happened.
    Anyway, sorry for the wall of text. Hope whoever reads this finds it informative, and keep up the great work mate! ❤️👍
    Edit: Spelling and grammar mistakes. 😅

    It's a decent theory but my theory I think is at least on par with this one.
    If you pay close attention Cooper is running off into the jungle in one direction and Nash and Mr. Udesky soon follow in a nother direction. This happens while Amanda is yelling on the microphone drawing attention to herself and everyone. I think the curious Spinosaurus was simply going to check out this strange new roar and Nash, Udesky, and Cooper didn't even have time to set up a perimeter like they wanted. It's hard to make out but if you listen it seems like Nash fires first, and the creature goes after them. Only then does Cooper fire his higher caliber weapon, either directly at the Spinosaurus or indirectly in an attempt to distract him so that Nash and Udesky can get away. Remember he is probably concealed so that the creature probably didn't spot him at first.
    As you watch them running back towards the plane, if you take notice, Nash seems a little more panicked than Udesky. I think this is because he realized that his firepower had no effect as he fired first against the creature.
    Meanwhile you hear Cooper firing off a couple more shots for one reason or another. Yes there could be a juvenile but I don't think so exactly, because we only hear the roar of the one adult Spinosaurus which only makes its presence known after Amanda is yelling. I think what happened next was, the Spinosaurus, still confused and sizing up his enemy Cooper, finally spots him and took a swipe at Cooper, well his weapon anyway, once he found him, perhaps being concealed in such a way that the animal could only just swipe him, perhaps between rocks or nestled amongst a tree or something. If you pay attention it's not only his arm that is injured but his other side too.
    Then I think at this point the creature hears the plane, probably thinking it's a bigger threat, and goes after it while Cooper realizes this and pursues after. We think he's running to catch the plane, maybe he was, but I never thought that. I always interpreted his actions as: Don't go this way the spinosaurus is coming. Yes he says: stop but that could just mean: stop going this way. It makes sense too that he would get through the jungle before the Spinosaurus because the huge spino has to weave around thick vegetation. Also it's important to know that the Spinosaurus did not come on the airstrip while the plane was landing so it may have been asleep or even out of the area. This is the other reason I'm not sure there was a juvenile. In my opinion, unless it was really young, it would have been curious and would have wanted to inspect the plane too.
    Now, it could be that Coper really was just trying to get on the plane, but regardless I still believe Cooper was trying to distract the Spinosaurus from Nash and Udesky, not just kill it. I also think the Spinosaurus was so adamant about pursuing them afterwards because the plane clipped his fin and he was very angry at this new threat which poses a danger to his possible territory. Though I don't like to appeal to the facts of later installments, this could be further backed up by Eric Kirby who says to Grant that the T-Rex urine attracts one really big one with a fin. This to me indicates that the Spinosaurus is more than just a really aggressive creature looking for a fight. If it is the first mixed dino hybrid as theorized, that could be the nature of genetically modified dinosaur hybrids: highly aggressive just like the Indominus.

      I don't understand how the guns wouldn't be effective. Dinosaurs aren't bullet proof. If it was just one being shot at, it definitely would have harmed it to a great degree with that type of weapon. I couldn't see anything regardless oof size surviving multiple head shots from that. Feels more likely cooper actually took out mate or a mate and younger one they were raising and it explains why the spinosaur wouldn't stop chasing the group no matter how far they went. Cooper getting shipped is definitely a possibility in the aftermath. I don't think people understand how powerful guns like that are other than what they see in movies. Unloading something like that on a human would literally tear limbs off on impact and aftermath would be a Gorey mess with the person being unrecognizable. Regardless of size, it would still be deadly for dinosaurs especially if they were getting shot in the head. Don't understand why the explosive rounds were introduced but never used when they arrived. That definitely would have wiped out one of these spinosaurs instantly. Although guess the dinosaurs wouldn't really be that scary if the characters were just shooting and killing them all the time. Still would be nice to actually see it occasionally

    Now it all makes sense. It's just like why the raptors keep pursuing them.
    If Grant found out in the very beginning that they disturbed a spinosaurus nest, he would have emphasized that it was bad enough to have an angry spinosaurus pursuing them for vengeance, but an entire pack of raptors who want their eggs back was even worse.

    Cooper's death always made me sad, because he was left by Nash, who was supposed to be his friend. And I wonder if Cooper's death was supposed to be a reference from Dino Crisis.
    As for this theory about the Spinosaurus' nest it makes sense, but Jurassic Park 3 biggest problem are the plot holes because the script was being change all the time while they were filming.

    Always amazed me how ppl going on a Dino island can’t aim or tactically use their firearms properly and the amount of firearm sabotaging that goes on. It’s like cloned dinos in Jurassic universe have this karma armor that makes them bullet proof. Can’t seem to think of a single dino that died of actually getting shot by a single bullet.

Then the spinosaurus you see chasing the through the movie is the father and mate of the other one that's why it was chasing them he wanted to avenge his family just what it seems like but eho knows.

    with all the trouble that JP3 went through, Richard just saying that stuff sounds like he is trying to just get out of the question completely. its all well and good to say that stuff now. but it would have been quite easy to have a scene where Grant asked one of the mercenaries what happened and have them tell Grant "cooper killed its baby". that literally all we would have needed, 2 maybe 3 minute scene tops

    I havent seen this movie in years and i forgot a lot of what happened, but seeing cooper again brought back feelings i didn't know i had towards it this scene.
    Watching cooper beg and cry made me sad as a kid, sure, but i was too young to understand character depth and stuff like that so it didn't impact me farther than, "Aw he died, why didn't they wait for him?". And i watched this a LOT as a kid so i just got use to it to the point i didn't feel much than "And this is when kill number 2 happens."
    Being older now, i can definitely say that this death really gets to me. It's like, I can't fault the other mercenaries for wanting to get off that island as soon as they can, even if it means leaving someone behind, yet the sadness i get from seeing them leave him hurts. Knowing they have to leave him makes it worse because i know it was a sacrifice that needed to be made if they were to live. Its the whole question of "Who would save one person for the price of five" deal. You can't save everyone, hard calls have to be made.
    The idea of knowingly being left behind to die is horrifying, and i wish it had turned out better. The actor was good with the desperation and it kills me.

    I noticed that Udesky has a 5.56mm weapon. As we know he's quite jumpy through the rest of the film, maybe he jumped the gun and fired those shots out of surprise at the spino or the babies, accidentally hitting Cooper in the shoulder? I think that Cooper's anti material rifle would be difficult to fire 3 times in quick succession like that, but an assault rifle like Udesky has would have no problem doing the same. Brilliant video 🤙🏼

    Trivia fun fact: In Jurassic Park 3, Cooper gets separated from the group while they are trying to return to the airplane and take off to escape the Spinosaurus. He is devoured whole while trying to run away…
    In the video game Dino Crisis (released 2 years prior to JP3), 4 agents parachute onto an island full of dinosaurs. Their target is a secret base. One of the agents gets blown off course into the jungle… and is separated from the rest of the group. He is spotted by a T-Rex in the jungle. He is chased and devoured whole while trying to run away. HIS NAME IS COOPER!
    As to all the points you brought out in the video… well done! And everything makes so much sense that this must be the only possible explanation for what happened to Cooper in the movie.

      Bro, they had to turn the plane around to take off, rewatch the movie. They get on the plane then go to the end of the runway to turn around for takeoff. Cooper wasn’t outrunning a plane, he was just where the plane used to be before they moved to the end of the runway

    Really makes you feel sorry for the Spino. That would be the driving fuel to pursue all the remaining humans on the island. Also portrays Cooper as a cold hunter who was more interested in killing small juvenile dinos rather than focusing on helping to locate Ben & Eric.

    We know that rhe Tyrano parents in Lost World were hell to deal with after their baby and after they got their baby they came back to **** up Ian's life.
    So it is definitely possible a an infant was involved but due to prehistoric production hell....a lot of things were blurred with this film... Although, it wasnt the best of the franchise, it had some of the best raptor designs to me. I loved them a lot.

    I realize a lot of mystery from JP3 could be chalked up to just being "bad writing and editing" but I kind of did like that added sense of mystique. And now years later we're still learning new things and filling in the pieces.
