Help Your Landscape Painting Emerge From A Cluttered Photo

Photos can be cluttered and lack form in trees, rocks or shrubbery, so it helps to be able to know where the light is coming from, simplify the shapes and values to create more form and suggest the plane that they are on and then use color temperature to create depth in the painting.

He recommends 'GIMP' which is free and can do almost as much as Photoshop. Check it out.
