The Catalyst CX family comprises three powerful dual-channel combo amplifiers that perform like traditional guitar amps, while providing the increased versatility of modern amps. Catalyst CX amplifiers are sturdily constructed and offer 12 Amp Voicings-ranging from pristine clean to modern high-gain-derived from the Helix amp and effects processor. Each Amp Voicing is matched with a custom Boost type, and there are also 24 HX quality effects spanning four effects categories. Additional features include a Tap/Tuner button, an XLR line output, an effects loop, a Power Amp input for using Catalyst CX as a powered speaker, MIDI functionality, a 2-channel USB recording interface, and power output options. The free Catalyst Edit app for desktop and mobile devices provides deep editing capabilities. Add an optional LFS2 footswitch for even more flexibility, and an optional cover to protect your combo.

Always appreciated these sounded good out of the box.
Katana required more tweaking.
They didn’t point it out, probably because it should have been that way to start with, but I’m glad to see the plastic trim around the control panel is attached with screws now. I’ve seen several of the original units where that piece came off.
Octaver sounds cool. Only gripe with the OG series was the High gain was MUD… Might be the Open back but i’ll check the CX out again. Good cleans and broken up od tones
This is super exciting! L6 picked great amps to add (although the MOO)))N is my personal favorite). I'm glad I waited before getting the original Catalyst.
But the original Catalyst do the same, it's just a great firmware update and a different frontal grid. I'll update my original Catalyst today. Glad Line6 didn't forget about the first Catalyst buyers 🙂

Sounds like a re-production of the the old Flextone amps they had in the 90’s and 2000’s in which I still have a Flextone II that I can’t even sell.

So, silly question… since its knobs are in the same position than the first Catalysts, Is there anyway that with the old models I can update the system to the CX using the usb cable? That would be great since I just barely bought a normal Catalyst 200.

What's the difference between the CX and the original one?
If you do the free firmware update they will be exactly the same for features and sounds. The only difference will be the grill cloth and some text on the top panel.
I don't know but from this video it seems like they have simplified the effect selection-----and boy did it need it. The original method was a real pain.
I think what they are trying to achieve here , is a Helix Stomp without the factory presets . And no need to buy a separate powered speaker .
I like mine just wish was easier to use

I really wanted an expanded foot controller! I could deal with 2 channels if we had “Snapshots” like on the Helix. Big disappointment.
Maybe there's a way to get a manual foot switch added in, but it would be nice if it came with. I would like the idea to turn certainly tones on and off on the fly.
I agree. I still prefer my Spider V paired with an FBV3. The Catalyst doesn't have enough channels for me to play live.
You can connect a midi pedalboard and select all the patches that you made in it. I'm using temporary a Boss GT-3 connected to the midi port

Dealbreaker because you STILL don’t have a proper foot controller for live settings! 😵💫 I’m selling my original Catalyst 200 because of it… an A/B footswitch is useless when you need to access at least 3-4 patches for live gigs!
I never got the sense that this amp is designed as an all-in-one for live use. It has a bunch of usable tones that can be combined with pedals. Probably best for informal scenarios, but possible to do more as a component.
Why not use a midi pedalboard? You can, I'm using a Boss GT-3 as midi pedalboard. Thinking to buy a behringer midi pedal for about 80-100€

Pity there isn't a small option for home use. Looks like Positive Grid has this market wrapped up.
They literally released a pocket sized battery operated modeler that’s basically this in a pedal a week or so ago. You’re right it doesn’t have a speaker but sounds just as good as this.
The catalyst 60 is excellent for home use. Bought one last month and it's pretty sweet
If you plan on shipping these amps to California music stores be sure and ship plenty of extra amps. Thanks to newsome and the rest of the California democrats the thieves can walk out of each store with 2-3 amps and you and the store owners can’t do a single thing about it. 😂
Next version needs more effects at once and an app that connects via Bluetooth for deeper editing. Then I’m in. Sticking with the Katana for now. Almost there.
You're going to have to wait until 2026 until Line 6 releases the next updated version of the Catalyst. 2026 is my speculation on when they'll release the next version of the Catalyst amp. Great idea bro!

@@Zacharysharkhazard but if you want the option on using more than a delay and reverb you don't have it unless you start buying more gear. The Katana has way more effects and you can actually have 2 delays at once. I love line 6 since I had the first pod but this amp feature wise is disappointing. No doubt it sounds great. But they missed the mark in my opinion. Guessing it was a price point thing regarding the limitations of this amp as they are trying to compete with the Katana.
Katana tones are just okay compared to the guitar amp tones coming from Catalyst. Why buy an amp for effects? These days the effects pedal market is insane.
I think Line6 have given users plenty of effects in the Catalyst given how saturated the effects market is and how many opinions there are about them. In fact, many guitarists won’t use Boss effects; many of them are kinda flat.

When will Line 6 do something like the DT amps again? Something like the DT line but with more effects would be amazing, also a 15w 1x12 would be awsome.

I used to own the original Cat - Still feel these amps - in their second iteration - could have benefited from having a small OLED/LED display added for visual feedback when tweaking. As it is - there's a fair bit of "muscle memory" and RTFM involved- it's hard to know exactly what's going on - unless using an iPad or iPhone over USB.... which is no fun...
geeky thought: I'm guessing this ( being able to run these HX models on Catalyst chip ) only became possible recently due to L6 devs being able to make software performance+efficiency improvements and optimisations with the DSP and SOC on board these amps - just as happened with HX Stomp...

agreed - I'm waiting for when Boss release the v3 Katana Artist series as only those katanas have the knobs on front. ERGONOMICS BABY!
