    I totally get what you guys are saying. That being said, when I asked my course’s club champion how can I eventually get there he said “you’re going to be on or around the green in two every time, but it’s the times you miss the green where you need to get up and down that will save shots.” I only hit the ball 250 on average (total distance too) and have shot 72, 73, 74, 75 all several times

    I don't know that I necessarily agree with everything you (both) are saying, but let me be the first to compliment you on your presentation skills. In a world where it seems no one under 40 can speak in complete sentences without a dozen idioms such as "like" or "Um" or "Uh", you are exceptional public speakers and excellent at presenting your ideas clearly and concisely. (Note: I agree with most of what you said, just not all.)

    Your index is your reference. The point of an index is to determine a playing handicap for the set of tees you play. No one says “I’m a scratch golfer from the forward tees” your PH would just be zero.

    Totally agree every single scratch golfer or better I've played a round of golf with hits it easily 260-280 off the tee, distance is a huge seperater of handicaps in this range, and it comes down to having a shorter club in hand.... I got down to 9 and although I've a really good short game my distance is 240 off the tee and I was just to far out on the longer holes to get down any further...it's the same in the pro game unless your 290 minimum they can't compete in any of the big tournaments

    I'm having a roller coaster of a year and it's probably because of all the different UA-cam I watch LOL because my swing thoughts are just a mess. I've been around 11.6 this year but I would say I'm currently trending around in 18 because something went wrong and I just forgot how to hit irons and I don't have any explanation as to why. It's just life getting in the way I guess, but even at my best when I was around 11 or 12, a good drive for me has always been around 230 yards. I'm only 5'3 so maybe distance just isn't in the cards for me but I see guys like Abe Anser on the liv tour and he's hitting it as far as everybody else. I just don't know if I'm ever going to be able to hit my drives 260 as a 42 year old man or older. Then again though, maybe I could just figure out how to hit my irons again and get an instructor and only work on driver because I don't disagree with what you guys are saying, i just don't think I have 260 in me.

      @MikeRakowski Місяць тому

      @@coltonkalkanisgolf sure, playing from correct tees will improve scores and fun factor. But all things being equal improving distance appreciably at an advanced age seems daunting. One element is swing speed. I see avg 60+ is about 93. Avg 29 yr old is said to be 113. To improve ss enough to help make up the 20 pct or 60 yd deficit seems nearly impossible.
      Definitely will work on it, but going from senior tee and working on short game seems a good approach at least initially. Appreciate the videos.

      @@coltonkalkanisgolf Luke Donald was the #1 player in the world and he was short and crooked off the tee. No matter how well you stripe it, you will still miss greens a lot of greens. Scratch golfers only hit greens a little over 50% of the time. That is approximately 7-8 bogey opportunities per round. If you miss a green you need to get up and down around 65% of the time to make it to a scratch golfer. Chipping to 3-5 feet away from the hole is a world of difference as opposed to chipping 8-10 feet from the hole.

    • @martynzl
      @martynzl Місяць тому +1

      @@jcharais when Luke Donald was #1 he wasn't 260 short and he was not that crooked. And he might have been the best in the world with scoring clubs. But good effort for finding the 1 guy that kind of fits your argument. Also, your stats don't add up because non GIR isn't defined by chipping. Let's say you take a penalty, get stuck behind a tree, rough or OB you could be relying on your whole bag to get up and down. Every shot has a potential to make bogey. And one other thing to consider is some chips are simple and sometimes easier than a putt. IMO a 10 handicap would probably only gain 1 maybe 2 shots per round if they chipped equivalent to a scratch golfer

    Average PGA tour player a +4-5? No chance. They are more +7-8 and close. For instance, an average PGA tour player playing on a course with a rating of 72 will easily shoot 8 rounds at 65 or better out of twenty. A lot of courses around the country have a club champ that is approaching +4 that is light years away from tour caliber.

    • @coltonkalkanisgolf
      @coltonkalkanisgolf  Місяць тому

      I said +4 or better. -8 dude you’d be number one in the world. Look at average score on pga tour. It’s not -8.

    • @reedrh
      @reedrh Місяць тому +2

      I said a rating of 72. An average course in America playing around 6600 yards has a rating of 72. An average pga tour course from thats a tricked out 7300-7400 course probably has a rating between 78-80. So if a tour player shoots two rounds of two under they are playing at a +8 level. I played low level D1 golf and was a +3.3 twenty years ago. Ur average D1 college player from a top 50 program that travels is probably +5. Evan beck, who is in the US mid Am finals, is a +6.1. And that is the MID am. Guys competing in the semis of the US Am are likely +7-8. And maybe one or two of them will make it on the tour…

    • @martynzl
      @martynzl Місяць тому

      @@coltonkalkanisgolf Make comments like this and your channel will not succeed. KFT are shooting mid 60's and can't make a cut in the PGAT. Nasty rough, long par 3's and impossible pins not to mention faster greens. And if they happen to play majors then your handicap is toast.

    • @Pseudify
      @Pseudify Місяць тому

      I would say the average pga tour course is more like a 74 or 75. A 78 is probably a major venue. And with a scoring average on tour around 71-ish, a +4 is not a bad estimate I think. I remember Tiger at his peak was head and shoulders above everyone else and they were saying he was around +8 (as I recall that was based on the last 20 majors he played) whereas the next guy was about +5 as I recall.

    • @reedrh
      @reedrh Місяць тому

      @@Pseudify Na they are harder than that. An average 7200 yard course in Florida will have a rating of 74-75. For example, TPC deer run where they host the John Deere, one of the easiest venues on tour has a rating of 75.6. The blue monster at Doral, a 77.4. Kiawah where they had the recent PGA championship 79.1. Of course, these ratings don’t account for them growing up the rough and making the greens firm for the tournament. However, a handicap is not compiled from your average score. It is computed from the average of your top 8 scores out of your last 20. So if you average is a 71 on a course with rating of 76-77 your handicap will not be +5 or +6, it will be more like +8 or +9 because all of the 65s and 66s get counted but all the 74-76s get thrown out.
