I've been coaching at all levels for 30 years, from pro to college to school and club. Of all the crap videos and teaching out there, you guys are doing it very well. 😊

Truly S-tier advice! I tried this in our practice today and I got higher block/touch counts!
We played co-ed so I mostly blocked women but it was through block-reading via this sequence. I didn't even have to try hard physically. I just had to read the flow of the game by following this video's "eye sequence" advice and I somehow understood the opposing team's intent or plays.
Amazing, thanks heaps for the good stuff!
PS: I did block some guys but I mostly just got a touch since they're experienced and knows how to hit a high hand.

Great video! I was curious in the final moments of the blocking motion where your eyes should be. Are they on the Spiker's nose the entire time, even while you are jumping to block and the spiker is preparing to hit?

Your eyes should be in soft focus around their head. The eyes leave the ball after the set has come out 3 feet and then they lock into the hitter. Then you’re looking at their head with awareness on the shoulders, the body, the ball coming in. All of those cues will show where they’re likely to go. Don’t stare at a specific thing… start seeing the whole thing with a soft focus

Is the timing of the jump not dependent on the blocker? My daughter is 5'5", so it takes her longer to get high enough to perform the block. When she jumps late, the ball is by her before her hands get to where the ball goes past. I try to get her to jump earlier, but all of her coaches tell her everyone to jump later, which makes no sense to me since the only time she gets blocks is when she jumps early and gets up to the ball.

There’s a lot going on in the block. Could be offense/hitter/blocker dependent… it all depends. You could have her spend more time watching the ball. Not the best advice but maybe for her level the ball is going to dictate the timing more than her or the hitter. She should be worried about all of the information and not just one thing a coach says. Keep exploring
