    Check out the dehumidifier I am using in the video from TOSOT:
    amzn.to/2YV6GVO
    I often get asked, " do dehumidifiers kill mold?" The simple answer is no it does not but it can absolutely prevent mold. If you have a flood in your home, dehumidifiers along with air movers can dry an area out and prevent a mold problem. In this video, I will show you how to dry out a wall using a dehumidifier. While not perfect, it does the trick. Does it mean it killed all the mold in the wall. No, it does not. Testing would then need to be done after the area is dried out.

    *humiditer We liked it **Fastly.Cool** so much in the basement, we bought a second one for the main level. The amount of moisture it pulls out of the air is astonishing.*

    They don’t kill mould directly, but by reducing the humidity and water content in the air and room, will indirectly kill mould. But you need a strong dehumidifier and need to run it almost daily.
    Good video!

    Thank you for this brief but very direct explanation. I was looking for a solution right now as my bedroom/home office smells moldy as it is rainy here and had to to check if what dehumidifier I need or if the built-in dehumidifier of my HVAC system does work... thanks again 👍

    My original intention for this humidifier was to use it for plants that require high moisture levels. After using it in my room, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxtD9aJ2m6GU-X1IChQxjn9l31K1A7Kpwj however, I think that's where it is going to stay in the fall and winter season at least. The increased humidity in my room made the room warmer and more comfortable. I had first ran the humidifier for 4 hours with the timer setting for it. After the first hour, I checked my room and can feel the difference. When the full 4 hours was up, I checked again and noticed that the humidifier was shut off as it is suppose to. The moisture level never seem to get passed 56/57%. I then let it run until all the water is used up, which it wasn't all used up. There are still some left in the base that you are not suppose to add water to. I filled up the water tank all the way again, being careful when removing it from the base. Some left over water may spill out. After putting it back on and setting the unit to auto, I let it operate. It didn't stop running, rather I don't know if it did at any point since I didn't check it regularly, for 24 hours after which the water in the tank ran out. The moisture reading never passed 56/57%, which may be a good thing for me. Being situated right next to my bed, the noise was not very noticeable with the occasional water gurgle from time to time as the unit ran.

    During the winter with central heating and drying clothes inside then using a dehumidifier will help stop mould from growing

    • @youkidandthat1205

      @jambiann tneru not sure I always just use a mould killing spray. Then an inhibitor afterwards. But every winter it will come back as the humidity gets so high. A dehumidifier reduces the humidity enough to keep it at bay.

      Where do you live that humidity is higher in the winter? Usually things get dryer, when you're in cold weather and are running the furnace.

    • @youkidandthat1205
      @youkidandthat1205 2 роки тому +5

      @wasaglass I live in the uk our winters are very wet. it comes from drying washing on radiators indoors mainly. Then baths,showers and cooking also adds to the amount of moisture.

    Great info. As a roofing contractor, I go into a lot of homes with mold infestation...because the owners did not take action when they should have. Here in Austin we have high humidity and everyone has an ac unit that does not run 24-7 - which probably caused mold in ducts. Have you had success with Concrobium or the higher strength vinegar?
    Thank you in advance.

      It seems it's for flooding repair when it's a one time hit of water. Basically to dry up a big spill that's soaked the place one time, but the fluid won't be come back in.

    What do you mean you should put a hole in the wall?

  • @Bwong55
    @Bwong55 3 роки тому +10

    No, if there is already mold it can destroy it but very difficulty, you should spray the mold with bleach and wipe off and then get the dehumidifier. If there isnt mould yet then get one because mold forms from gumid air

    • @jamie1081

    Can you recommend some good dehumidifiers that I don’t need to dump water as often?

    • @ColonelSandersLite
      @ColonelSandersLite 2 роки тому +3

      Here's the straight truth -
      There is pretty much three ways of reducing how often you need to empty the water.
      1. By reducing the amount of water you're pulling from the air.
      2. Increasing the size of the tank.
      3. Using a drain hose.
      So either you make the thing less effective, make it bulkier and heavier, or introduce a tripping hazard. There is no way to remove the same amount of water from the air while collecting less water from it.

  • @rockyboy976

    What is the wattage of ur dehumidifier? It came down from 40 to 35% in 3 days? Your initial video showed 40%!!

  • @MariusVerbavicius
    @MariusVerbavicius 2 роки тому +17

    If you buy dehumifier with HEPA filter, it will capture mold and other harmful particles. Ozoning room is also option after drying to destroy mold. Basiclly you need to have humidity lower than 60%, then windows and walls have to have good enough heat isolation to not cause condensation on walls and windows. Thin isolated windows will get condensate when colder weather outside will be present. Overtime mold will grow arround windows damp, wet areas.
    Also. Why we should thumbs up your video before watching?

  • @ANR164
    @ANR164 Рік тому +2

    Its almost impossible to get 0% relative humidity, you are alright with 40 - 60% RH..

    is it normal for the dehumidifiers to get black mold inside them quickly? we just ordered one and it has mold in the water can and its less than 2 weeks old. should i be concerned?

    • @custerranch
      @custerranch Місяць тому +1

      Yes. I would suspect that you already have a mold issue going on, and the dehumidifier has been pulling spores through it, which allowed mold to colonize inside it
