I replaced the old dinky O2 pump on my starting ship with TURBOULTRA air pump I scavenged. 30 minutes later I started suffocating and couldn't figure out what the problem was. Maybe my helmet was malfunctioning? Was it low level of O2 in the tank? Was my hull leaking? After about 10 min of dying repeatedly, I realized you have to manually turn on the pump. 10/10 game.
You need to wire it to the O2 sensor by clicking on one of the screws on the control bord (upper right hand cornner) than click on the O2 alarm and set the turbo pump to automatic and hit the turbo button
I wonder if this is a sarcastic complain or an actual praise... in the later case, agreed. In the former? Sweet summer child you never played neo scavenger? These games are NOT kind xD you can restart a dozen times and each times get screwed as soon as you step out the starting zone xD
Since Splatt seems to forget it exists, the Supplies kiosk next to the airlock at K-LEG sells things like tools, batteries, battery chargers, EVA suits, basic supplies, etc. Its cheaper to get them elsewhere, but it is an option. Also, as others have mentioned in the comments, there is the gig economy to earn a bit of money, although one does need money to take those jobs, and other jobs are... rather expensive, let us just say.
Theres also a blue "Supplies" trade station just to the left of the airlock at OKLG. You can see it in the video several times. A lot of the items Splat says hes unable to find can be bought there (charging stations, batteries, tools, etc). They should always be available for purchase, though that are expensive.
Love this game. When I started playing, my character started to have some mild pain. I couldn´t figure out what exactly caused this, so I just procured and took some pain meds. Did not really help. The med station didn´t come up with any issues either. So what was causing this pain? Well, it turns out I put on my shoes wrong, so left shoe on right foot and vise versa... that's it, that's what caused the mild discomfort. There are 3 very annoying things in this game: 1- is that the sleep and some "debuffs" take real life hours if not days of time to heal even with fast forward at max speed, like, you get sleepy and even after sleeping for a few in game days it will still not go away 2- is the "map orientation", you can "permanently" flip the map top to bottom if you board or take a ship "wrong" 3- you can get rammed by npcs when parked, it will send you flying at usually double or even triple the speed one usually cruises, some times you don't notice it until you are too far to get back and, there's no a way to completely stop your ship, you are always moving, drifting, you always risk to slowly slip too far if you stop to check you ship when not docked to kleg
1 - it's been a few months since i played the game last time or checked their discord, there might be a fix for this (or not). 2 - it's not about boarding the ship wrong or something, it's just how the game is made, basically, when the ship was build in the editor, the way it's airlock is facing is what changes the map orientation, if the airlock is facing up, other ships and stations will be oriented upwards as well, if it's down other ships/stations will be oriented downwards, it's the same for left or right as well. 3 - in the docking menu, you can click the bottom left screw of the screen, it will open up a debug tool to help you dock with anything in the system, just find what you want to dock with and click, just remember to let go of whatever your docking with at the moment, it's not a fix for this problem, i know the devs are working on this one as well, but it's a tool to help you in case this happens.

Its really not that difficult of a game. Get some tools, fix your ship, repair the hull, get a space suit and helmet, get some oxygen, buy a license, then go around disassembling everything, take the items to the base and sell them. Lather, rinse, repeat. Its only difficult in the very beginning when you dont have an oxygen suit. If you wander around long enough you will find the suits, helmets, and equipment around the stations. Trying to venture through space in a rusted bucket without any way to breath if the ship gets hit by a meteor is an issue. You wont have time to repair the hull before you run out of oxygen without a suit. Otherwise once you have a suit the game is SUPER easy and then the grind becomes all to real. In a short time you will have a decent ship, tons of money, and nothing to do with it.

I just wish the graphics weren't so low-res. Half the time, I don't know what I'm looking at unless I hover the mouse over it. Why can't anyone make a game with this much detail and maybe even 3D graphics. I wish they'd combine this game's mechanics with an abandoned game called Landinar , it would be awesome. The reason that game came to mind was due to the similar POV and the fact that you can build out your ship equipment (though not as detailed as this). Despite my GFX qualms , this game is awesome, keep up the good work Devs (and Splattercatgaming for covering it).
I definitely agree. The pixel art is cool, but there are so many items and machinery that you are always trying to figure out what things are. It will drive a lot of people away, for sure.
With these kinds of games, I think it's actually not low res *enough* at some points Simpler sprites means it's easier to tell things apart, throw too many pixels and effects on everything and you risk turning everything into greeble mush
Just tried this game for the first time! First derelict I docked with had a pirate in it, who attacked me on sight. After a brief scuffle, I managed to go back into my ship, grabbing a knife I picked up from the starting station. Ended up repeatedly stabbing the pirate to death. After catching my breath, I decided to just grab a oxygen pump from the ship and scadoodle. Taking off my helmet, I heard the nav com beep. Was getting target locked by local security, and now there's a arrest warrant on me... This game is awesome! :D
Great game. Daunting at first, but it has a pretty simple meta: find a good looking ship, strip it, buy it at KLEG commercial, fill it up with nice stuff (especially a reactor, heavy water, He3, batteries, etc.), then sell it for something like 3-10x what you paid for it. Last time I played there wasn't much more to do than that, but that was a minor version ago. Salvaging is super satisfying, and so I would often just start a new game to get back into it. Going to jump in again.... Also, you can buy batteries and stuff in the "supplies" kiosk, which is left of your ship in KLEG.
36:00 thanks for showing me how to get inside my first prize, I was not smart enough to break in to a ship because I thought that door was on my ship and I do not want to cut open my ship just to get out
I think one of the tips I'd most include for people just starting out who don't have EVA suits yet is to make your first stop on any ship the battery room. If those batteries have charge, there's a good chance you can get the power back on, which means the air pumps will start working and you can pressurize the ship. Which means no more pressure suit juggling. Just don't accidentally cut a hole into hard vacuum by removing a wall, floor, or door tile keeping the air in. (If you remove the tile air doesn't 'escape' so much as 'disappears entirely' since the game registers that room as 'outside' now.)
In my game of Ostranauts one of the NPC's shot the barman, then dragged the body into the bathrooms and started pooping on it. I'm still in therapy about that.
BBG is a great company and the owner is actually as really nice dude if you ever get to chat with him. Neo Scavenger is one my favorite hobo simulators out there. Picked up Ostranauts when it first went into EA. Great to see it's progressed so much already. Time for me to go back in I feel.
It also doesn’t appear that splat’s running a nitrogen tank onboard for atmo. Not a problem all you need is oxygen, but don’t spark up your welder onboard until you have mixed atmo. Side note. I don’t think combustion is in game yet, but will be.
Sir... you weren't lying about this banger... it's absolutely brutal. Took me about 5hrs of deaths just to get going. I LOVE IT! I hate games that hold your hand and no challenge. Thanks for the recommendation.
I've been waiting for this to be further along early access, for like 2 years now. I really enjoyed Neo Scavenger. But this still looks like it needs more time
Oh, at the beginning, so much waste of precious air! The interior door of the airlock was open, so that your entire ships was depressurized every time you entered and exited.
I don't think he even has an interior airlock door lol. What a rustbucket. Edit: Oh nevermind, I think I see the edges of it. Still wouldn't surprise me if sometimes your space coffin didn't come with it.
Damn you Splatt! Bought this yesterday and didn't get to bed until 1am! Keep up the good work 🤪. Day #2 up to 21 hours played...can I morph my ship into the millenium falcon before I die of old age? Just glad I'm on a weeks holidays 😏
I'll have to check this out. I've been looking for a space salvage/looting game that clicks with me. If I could make my own it'd be like Sea of Thieves+ Hardspace: Shipbreaker. SoT in terms of exploration, ship control, and POI/derelict discovery, with the amount of environmental control of a shipbreaker when you're actually at a derelict. Plus having loot/salvage that could be used to upgrade your ship on top of selling it. This seems to tick a lot of those boxes, if a bit on the hardcore side of things.
Love this game. Wish it was a little further along in development to make the large scale ship projects somewhat useful. Leaving the system doesn't really give you much (yet)
If you people look at the loot prices on the wiki, don't, they are not accurate, they are based on the "good" prices that the "smuggler" offers but those prices in game fluctuate, some times are worse than the company offer, for more accurate "static" loot selling price, look at what the "salvage company" offers and only sell to the "smugglers" when they offer more than the company
Neoscavenger was in Michigan and the space cops like to beat you for no reason. Space Detroit! I ended up buying the game, I would like to mention there are some excellent guides on steam for new players
Hey I thought so that title is just like Neo-Scavenger another great rpg, same devs for it. Might have to check this out sometime loved me some Neo-Scav!
For anyone wondering, you can fix the pressure suit if you have the knowledge of how to do so. In fact, you can fix literally everything. The Supplies bench next to the dock has tools, food, water, clothes etc. etc. Theres so much splat didnt cover, i guess because there's a hell of a lot to cover for one guy. I do however, think the combat system is shite and needs to be implemented properly. Falling over for absolutely no reason is one of the most incensing things ive encountered. Apart from that, lots of potential.
The combat system for Neo Scavenger was one of the best "text game" combat systems I've ever seen. So, the developer knows what he's doing. He'll get it right, and then some, for sure.
@@TheAzrai really? I found the combat system for Neo Scavenger very frustrating. It grew on me a bit as I played but I never really found it fun. Always defaulted to taking strong in the end.
@@TheMajorpickle01 Yeah I can see that happening. Sometimes finding ranged weapons was quite common, sometimes it was like finding a gold nugget in an ocean. I guess what I meant was that the combat systems were quite detailed under the hood, even if it required some balancing it never received.
every time I see this game part of me wants to play really bad and part of me wants to never see it again. I am completely ok with pixel graphics, actually brings me a bit of nostalgia, but the art here is so messy you can hardly tell what is what. And that combat, oof its rough looking. Either way you entertained me for another hour and I appreciate that.
Use the supply Kiosque close to your airlock to buy tools.. they have all of them even EVA suits. You can't just take derelicts.. you have to buy them from dealer in commercial district if you want to fix them up to use and/or sell it. Also you have to buy a new transponder for any derelict you buy if you want to use it and sell it. KLEG will not allow a unregistered i.e. "no transponder" ship to dock, and you will get in trouble with the LEO's if using it.
Just curious, what about the transponders you find aboard the derelicts? My first one is a freighter, and it has a built-in transponder that can be repaired. Can it be activated and used?
@@TheAzrai If it's broken it can't be repaired, if it's working then don't uninstall it as it will break it immidiately (small fraction of a chance it will not if you have the sensors skill). If you buy a derelict with a working transponder you don't have to buy a new one, but the ship will not be registered to you until you buy the ship.

Let's just pretend that bin wasn't bugged, it was uhhh... broken. it was uhhh.. vacuum welded. Also, you don't have to start as an illegal scavenger, you can also take missions from the Gig Nexus at the station. A lot of them offer modest payouts with no other requirements than going from point A to point B. Then you can buy a salvage license.
FYI, I think Splat forgot that you have to pry open all bins that are damaged. If they aren't damaged, you can open them normally. The salvage rig that you start with has bins that are all damaged, but easily repaired.
I've been watching this game for at least a year, I love the concept but it's just so buggy I can't play it for more than a few days before rage-quitting. It seems like every few hours my whole crew will spontaneously suffocate, no hull breaches, plenty of O2 and CO2... One trigger is that if you uninstall a door the game registers hull breach even though there's still a floor and walls in the position. I really want this game to go forward.
From the developer of Neo scavenger? Thats really cool. I hope this game will not be that crazy hard. Because in Neo i always die, either because of all the other creatures or mostly because of hypothermia.

Imagine them expanding Hardspace: Shipbreaker into what Ostranauts is!
With these kinds of games, I think it's actually not low res *enough* at some points
Simpler sprites means it's easier to tell things apart, throw too many pixels and effects on everything and you risk turning everything into greeble mush
"My character is proficient at melee fighting... It looks like I fell down."
>open video
>Splattercat is feeling numbness and tingling in their extremities.
He's *FINE*, I'm sure it's nothing at all important! 😰
You really went full Gordan Freeman on that pirate.
36:00 thanks for showing me how to get inside my first prize, I was not smart enough to break in to a ship because I thought that door was on my ship and I do not want to cut open my ship just to get out
Interesting. The theme remids me of Shipbreaker. The exploration seems very interesting.
I'm still in therapy about that.
.... No way. Are you sure it wasn't YOUR character? Maybe schizophrenia is a trait? If this happens, that's incredible.
This sounds like an average game of space station 13
When I saw videos talking about Hardspace Shipbreaker this is what I imagined it was, although in 3d. This is definitely more what I'm interested in.
A screwdriver, hacksaw, soldering iron, and a dream.
Great fun to find a massive hulk and make her space worthy and just cruising around cannibalizing all the smaller ships in their entirety
O.o Why would he remove his starting one!?
There's a part of my brain that absolutely lit up during this video. I think I need this. Badly.
You do.
I'm so hyped for this game, neoscavenger was just a great contribution to the genre and a unique yet artistically cohesive game onto its own
Sir... you weren't lying about this banger... it's absolutely brutal. Took me about 5hrs of deaths just to get going. I LOVE IT! I hate games that hold your hand and no challenge. Thanks for the recommendation.
This combines the space RPG elements I love with some cool stuff from something like Hardspace:Shipbreaker. Excited to see how this develops
Game is not for me, but +1 to the Dev for originality.
"Rubbing Tummies" Is now a phrase I will use while playing my space games. Thanks :D
I insta bought this one, based on how great neoscavanger was, but I really never played it. glad to see it’s making progress!
I like how the visor moves when you move the mouse around! I like how complicated it is just to stand in the salvaged ship.
From the maker of neo scavenger. God I hope this game keeps being updated, it's been years
Same universe too. They share canon. Merga wraith when?
@@TherealTenmanI dogman pirates wen?
Always love seeing this title. Have some very nice memories of fully restoring a freighter. Nearly gasped when I saw the nuclear reactor you found. XD
I love how the "We Buy Scrap" store left the "S" unlit, just to clarify exactly what they buy.
Nice UI, reminds me of the original UFO/X-COM
This seems like Cataclysm:DDA in space. Not sure why I've never checked it out before, looks amazing! Thanks Splat.
Damn you Splatt! Bought this yesterday and didn't get to bed until 1am! Keep up the good work 🤪.
Day #2 up to 21 hours played...can I morph my ship into the millenium falcon before I die of old age? Just glad I'm on a weeks holidays 😏
I know Let's Play aren't usually your thing, but this would be a cool series
theres not much to do in this game as of right now
MORE OSTRANAUTS!!!
oh, same guys who made NeoScavenger, so of course it's going to an amazing, self-griefing madness
So good to see someone still playing this and making videos.
Before it was RimWorld it was DwarfFortress.
I *adore* Ostranauts. Just buy it, if you're remotely considering it, you won't be disappointed.
We are proficient at melee...
...we fell down. 😂😂
love your vids man wish you would actually finish some of the games though lol
I was just learning how to salvage ships better in another game when I saw this pop up in my notifications. Hehe
holy crap are you going to stream this again!~!!!
love watching this game while I play other games
Strangest melee fight ever 😂
Looks intresting, I think im gone get this on sale
@@TheAzrai that's fair. While I never groked it fully myself it felt at least like it was attempting some serious depth.
every time I see this game part of me wants to play really bad and part of me wants to never see it again.
You can't just take derelicts.. you have to buy them from dealer in commercial district if you want
to fix them up to use and/or sell it.
Also you have to buy a new transponder for any derelict you buy if you want to use it and sell it.
KLEG will not allow a unregistered i.e. "no transponder" ship to dock, and you will get in trouble
with the LEO's if using it.
@@TheAzrai Oh.. and don't forget to transfer your nav data from your old ship into your new one via the PDA.
Thanks for the update on this game Splattercat!
39:23 LMAO
Thx for the video!
Just started a new game and nearly died walking in my starting ship as it is exposed to hard vacuum. 10/10 would have saliva bubble and eyes nearly burst again.
I'm watching your 'Don't starve' vids from 11 years ago. Man you sound so different. You can only just make out the Splattercat we all know and love today. 😁
Excellent discovery, love these types of hardcore games
Dood. You’re killing me. I bought this game and I’m knee deep at 40 hours and I’m at 1% of the content. Thanks splat.
Margerite had 'Pirate' listed as her occupation, so don't fill bad about killing her for no profit.
K
The sequel I really have been waiting. Starting to get the feeling it's gonna be a master piece just like the first one. I knew that neo scavenger devs weren't gonna disappoint me. They are the real deal
Blue bottle games is actually just one guy lol, He contracts out most of the programming work to freelancers project by project. Met him once, really chill dude
@@ohporlcaos6494 that's good to know. You are one lucky guy. I was able to meet a dev from an indie game I liked a lot. But meeting neo scavenger dev would be a real dream
I loved Neo Scavenger too, but the game had some run-ending bugs. The main one was your combat log freezing up even though combat progresses. Happened so often. I search around online for a possible fix once in a while, but never found one.
@@TheAzrai really? That's so strange, I have so many hours in neo scavenger, never runned into a bug. Have you tried playing it these last year's? Maybe it was fixed
1:09 "splattercat is feeling numbness and tingling in their extremities"
Last time i played the police wrecked my ship while trying to dock with me,so i got on his ship and let all the air out
You convinced me to get the game. Now, if only it were on sale I would buy it right now :)
Most games I buy are thanks to you btw. You make them look interesting. I like it. Although I must say I bought some doogies too. Luckily often I can get money back, and sometimes I am stuck with it. No less, good video yet again. Thank you for showing this game!
I could have picked this up for the spring sale, but I decided to save my money for minis. I'd love to play it once the ship combat update is out.
anything coming from the developers of Neo Scavenger peaks my interest 👍
Exactly what I was looking for, thanks. Managed to get a freighter and fix it up by two. Also, expired permits are worth 2k.
Great vid Splat, I think I've seen all your previous vids on this game, you should stream this when you get up and running over on Twitch.
I've been trying to prevent myself from launching X4: Foundations again before the 7.0 DLC is released and hey, Ostranauts is a pretty good thing to check in on first, thanks for the reminder splat!
Exactly this. I have so many mods that aren't going to be updated within a month of the release, this should fill the gap.
Took a look at a video about friction stir welding, because of you brandishing the tool here and it's pretty damn cool way to weld shit.
I've been following this game for a LONG time I absolutely love it
Let's just pretend that bin wasn't bugged, it was uhhh... broken. it was uhhh.. vacuum welded.
Love the way this game looks, just waiting for the update to drop before digging in. Also, that Balatro dig at the end :'(
The fighting looked clunky but it was brutal. Can you space people?
I love nerdy overcomplicated games but I couldn't quite get into Ostranauts. Definitely think I will try again in the future.
Thanks for showcasing. ^^
12:45 So whenever you dock back into the ship boneyard, you pay for air that thousands of other spacegoers farted in?
From the developer of Neo scavenger? Thats really cool. I hope this game will not be that crazy hard. Because in Neo i always die, either because of all the other creatures or mostly because of hypothermia.
