Never in 50 years have I not been glad when I hear his music. It’s always been in my rotation , but in the store, on the street anywhere anytime. He’s so good
That guitar player really went the extra on this live track. Great studio version as well. Bill Withers was a gem. You can't really go wrong with any of his music; Lovely Day, Ain't No Sunshine, Just the Two of Us with Grover Washington Jr, and Lean on Me are his most famous, although, Heartbreak Road has a special place in my song playlists.
You'll enjoy your Bill Withers journey. Back when I was a teen, a bunch of us would get together and do another of his hits... Lean On Me. That one might interest you.
@@L33Reactsjust the Two of us is on the album Winelight which is actually by Grover Washington Jr even though Withers did all the vocals for it. One of my favorite relaxation albums.

This is my favourite Bill Withers song. I used to sing it in my covers band and it always went down an absolute storm. The Old Grey Whistle Test was a BBC insitution, and where you went if you wanted to listen to serious music
YES YES YES! So glad you got to this. Thanks Gail H! Was wracking my brain trying to remember the name. So very cool without trying to be. More synchronicity.
Thanks, L33.. Bill was amazing... this is one of my favorites by him... appreciate your reaction... (p.s. Glad you looked him up... he has a really interesting and amazing history.. "Still Bill" was a documentary that chronicled his history... check it out!)
Live songs recorded for the late night UK show "The Old Grey White Test" are typically awesome! For example, Edgar Winter's iconic live version of "Frankenstein" was recorded for it. Famously hosted by the great "Whispering Bob Harris’", this show introduced so many singers/bands to UK audiences. 😊
Such a great song, and with that funky beat. Early 70s, Bill was in the prime of his career. I think he passed last year. He was the real deal. Maybe you can react to his other huge hit from back then called "Ain't no Sunshine."
The late great Bill Withers... I've been a fan since getting his Live at Carnegie Hall lp when I was 12. He actually was brought in to produce and write songs for my old girlfriend's album in 80s and was as down to earth as they come. And yes James Gadson on drums is as funky as they come. The live version of I Can't Write Left Handed is a sleeper tune that will give you some insight into Bill the man.
Ned from Spain stopping by again. Bill Withers wrote a lot of great funky tunes with some world wise lyrics. Kinda folk n funky n jazzy with solid players. "Grandma's Hands" " Harlem " " Who is He and What is He to You ? " " Lonely Town Lonely Street " " Hello Like Before" so many. If you dig this try some Gil Scott Heron ???
All my mom’s original Beatles, albums, and others all perished in a flood. They got warped only a third of the collection was saved. Some of the Crosby stills and Nash and a Rick James album.
Mmmmmm Bill Withers really hits the soul. Saw this on the Whistle Test when it came out. For various reasons I would suggest "Grandma's Hands." OR "Kissin' My Love" That intro, been sampled by so many.
Thanks L33 for putting on this great clip of Bill in action. I never saw this before. It's the definition of: Smokinnnnn.' Loved your thoughtful reaction a this man full of soul.
Bill WIthers had many great hits, as you can see in the comments. Be sure to check out "Lean on Me' which became a staple in Gospel music, sung in churches all around the world
BILL WITHERS HAD SOME GREAT SONGS,I PUT HIM IN THE SAME VAIN AS HARRY CHAPIN AND JIM CROCE GUYS WHO COULD PULL OUT A GUITAR AND PLAY SOME GREAT MUSIC OH THE 70S BEST MUSIC EVER MADE AND TIMELESS PROVE ME WRONG!
Great but it lacks the magic of the studio version. One of my favorite songs. Like Dylan's Lay Lady Lay there's a studio magic to certain songs that can't be duplicated. Carnegie Hall version is even better than this one.
Talent. Just talent!
This is 52 years ago. If we had had the ability to pick up video & audio in ‘72 from 1910, think about it!
James Gadson at the Drum Kit... a legend.
Ain't no sunshine, Just the two of us, Lovely day are not to be missed! ❤
Great selection of Bill Withers songs
Yes! Yes! Yes!
And Use Me
My favorite version of this song. Thanks for the reaction Lee.
So good to see young people love the music that I grew up with.
Never in 50 years have I not been glad when I hear his music. It’s always been in my rotation , but in the store, on the street anywhere anytime. He’s so good
Ain't no sunshine when he's gone...
Love me some Bill Withers. Such a funky tune.
Yeah this was funky as hell. Makes you want to drive and get up to no-good lol
I said brother, If you only knew, you'd wish you were in my shoes...... 😀
Classic! His Ain't No Sunshine and Lovely Day are classics too. Lovely Day is such a feel good song
"Groovy as Hell" is right!!!😊
I wouldn't worry about the genre. So much crossover, which just makes some stuff that much more wonderful ❤
That guy with the Gibson ES-175 is killing me. Such a chill band!!!!
Drummer always has that smile on his face like he is stealin' your girl. ;)-
We had so much variety of mudic in the 70's that was spectacular
Such a huge hit in the early 1970s but I rarely if ever hear it played today. What a crime. What a great track!

Stephen Stills played guitar on Bill Withers "Ain't no Sunshine"
You'll enjoy your Bill Withers journey. Back when I was a teen, a bunch of us would get together and do another of his hits... Lean On Me. That one might interest you.
Ain't No Sunshine ~~~~" I Know " X26
It doesn't get cooler than that.
60s soul music was a fusion of blues, pop, jazz and gospel. Just wow!
One of my faves. I love Just the Two of Us and Lovely Day. The first is on a very romantic album.
Oh shit that's the same guy?? I know just the two of us. I knew I recognized his voice from somewhere but I didn't know where. Thank you for that!

Bill Withers singing “Soul Shadows” with The Crusaders. Tops my “Favorites” playlist.
This one is my favorite song of his. I love your observations, you sensibilities are on point. Good to see young people finding this music.
This is my favourite Bill Withers song. I used to sing it in my covers band and it always went down an absolute storm. The Old Grey Whistle Test was a BBC insitution, and where you went if you wanted to listen to serious music
That drummer is so "effected" that he doesn't even need a stool, he's just floating there...
YES YES YES! So glad you got to this. Thanks Gail H! Was wracking my brain trying to remember the name. So very cool without trying to be. More synchronicity.
I add my vote to all suggested songs. "Grandma's hands" is a favourite of mine
my suggestion too
Great tune from the early 70's!
Bill n his songs were terrific!
with James Gadson on drums, one of the coolest mf.
Yeah he was killing it with a smile on his face lol gotta love it
@@L33Reacts You can see him, still playing at almost 80 years old, and still smiling, on the video for Doyle Bramhall II's "Mama Can't Help You".
Any version of this is good as long as it has that funky bass. Another great hit by Bill is Ain't No Sunshine.
What a banger 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Thanks, L33.. Bill was amazing... this is one of my favorites by him... appreciate your reaction... (p.s. Glad you looked him up... he has a really interesting and amazing history.. "Still Bill" was a documentary that chronicled his history... check it out!)
LOVE Bill Withers! He did SUCH A GREAT JOB with THIS TUNE!!!! Although: this version seems to be a little SLOWER than the studio version....ENJOY!
Awesome song! I never get tired of hearing him!
One of my favorite songs of all time. Check out the studio version also, its got a very different feel to it. Also, check out Lean On Me.
Killer tune.
Right up there with Marvin, Al, and Otis.
Excellent song🎵
You picked the best version of the song. The album version is faster bpm wise. They jam the shit out of this!
Austin City Limits.... treasure trove of great videos
Such a great song, and with that funky beat. Early 70s, Bill was in the prime of his career. I think he passed last year. He was the real deal. Maybe you can react to his other huge hit from back then called "Ain't no Sunshine."
I'll have to check that one out thank you! This was a badass track. Made me feel cooler listening to it. Funky beat. Good shit 👏 👌

Bill Withers, one of the best singer/songwriters you will hear. Great influence on so many different genres.
Lenny Kravitz and Mick Jagger (duet) do a great cover of this!
Check out the studio version on your time, fuller sound. Plays well
Love this song.
The drummer is hysterical.

So simple....yet so smooth! ❤️
Wow. Even better than the studio version
Yep, groovy as hell!
Another couple of great Old Grey Whistle Test performances were Edgar Winter Group doing Frankenstein and Humble Pie doing Black Coffee
Thanks L33 for putting on this great clip of Bill in action. I never saw this before. It's the definition of: Smokinnnnn.' Loved your thoughtful reaction a this man full of soul.
Bill Withers Live at Carnegie Hall - great live album.
Great groove and vocal, outstanding live performance.
Bill WIthers had many great hits, as you can see in the comments.
Be sure to check out "Lean on Me' which became a staple in Gospel music, sung in churches all around the world
I'm actually very familiar with that track. I've heard it a million times. I didn't know that was him! What a song. 👍
Excellent. Memories. Thanks L33!
Of course my friend. Any time :)
Massive talent, walked his own path, not your run-of-the-mill "star". Everybody knew he was...including Stevie Wonder.
Thank you 👍
Sunny Day.
Another great tune I haven't heard in ages. Thank you 😊
Glad you enjoyed Cora:) this was smooth as hell. Definitely a playlist song lol
Love this song. Zac Brown does a great cover of it.
There was no recording until the 80's.
???
Great choice of video 😊
"In Concert", "Midnight Special"
Stick around folks to Kent Nishimura cover of 25 or 6 to 4. Amazing talent....
"Harlem" by Bill Withers
My dude, PLEASE....
I'm BEGGING you to do
Public Animal #9 (Live 1972)
Original Alice Cooper band
I'M HER DADDY is my pick.
This is great but i think the studio version is better. It's a bit faster and more groovy
THAT POCKET IS TOO DEEP
if you've never seem a drummer who's completely messed up on lsd, this is your big chance.
now that's a pocket drummer

Great but it lacks the magic of the studio version. One of my favorite songs. Like Dylan's Lay Lady Lay there's a studio magic to certain songs that can't be duplicated. Carnegie Hall version is even better than this one.
Original is much better.
