@@grantbob Scary Pockets randomly was on my facebook feed. I loved their cover and thought "I wish I could hear Bill Withers cover that song". So I youtube Bill Withers and find this. Then I see this comment and went back found James Gadson on the Scary Pockets feed and start following Scary Pockets and Michael. Thank you everyone for this trip lol, AND James Gadson is the best!:)

Love watching you go through this process to understand and/or learn. Wish i could find a teacher like you close to where i live, then again no one lives close to where i live.:)
I literally have no idea what you are talking about, but it is fascinating to watch you breaking down the music, I would never have understood how much effort goes into such a classic song, thank you
Another great video, Michael! Now.. I'm headed to go check out more of that cover band you came across at the end. Haha. Sending peace & love from Missouri -Todd
Just wanted to say, I'm getting better in part due to your channel. My ear has been able to pick out chord changes and figure out melodies when I have my guitar. But you've made what I was taught in my music theory class make since. Another part is this open mic i go to and sit in with the house band, and they've shown me quite a lot. But thank you Sir!
I've watched this video several times for the Bill Withers portion, but the ending indio band version is pure genius - I absolutely love that there can be 'other' interpretations of classic songs that groove! This was great!
There is also a video on YT of the ENTIRE set. You picked what I think is the best version - love the riffs by everyone in the band. So heavy, so light, so smooth, so tight.
The fact I came here for Bill Withers and left with a burning itch for more of a cover band is disgustingly awesome. Dudes were absolutely crushing an already fantastic song.

Dude I can't wait for this show on Sunday, so far the first three songs are gold, my kind of jams. Love watching these videos but hate how they remind me how bad I am at guitar haha guess I need to put in another 20 years
There are no slides or hammers on a Clavinet. Every note needs to be articulated. If you listen to the entire song you'll hear some choruses have the first lick end up on G instead of E. Most bands around here play it that way most of the way through. There's an entire soul lesson in the live guitar comps. They are really improvising over the entire song so that every chorus is not the same. That walk up is together with the high hat barks in Gadson's drum part. Which I learned on the drums. And it drives me nuts when folks play though the tacit part. That's a signature part of the song. I've had people do chromatic falls, play E to A and all kind of other noises where it's supposed to be just drums and singer. There are also hits in the 3rd verse when Bill says "Baby" that are on 3-and. Hitting those right is kind of a tell for the band. This is another "Shaky Ground". Everybody thinks they know how to play it, but nobody does it right. I'm not talking about "being a jukebox" right. But before you can "make it your own" you have to get the essence of what made it an anthem.
I love the tone you get with all your guitars when you do the little into licks. I know you use different guitars, but all PRS. Is this a PRS specific tone or are you really dialing things in with amp and fxs?

Hi, I'm a pretty basic guitarist who knows NOTHING of the fret board mostly getting my music from chords(UG), I can make a nice sound but I have yearnings to improve my knowledge and venture further up the fret board more.. I really like the way you break songs down, work it out and explain. I shall definitely be watching a lot more, see if i can't learn a bit. Thanks
Great stuff, masterful explanation. I noticed you have a very fluid way of backing up through the timeline of the video or audio that you are learning from. Do you have a hardware based dial? Like a big 3 inch knob that controls the playback playhead? Or are you just using your mouse to back up the playhead?
