- Had the 1250 Trophy a week, first service done and a thousand miles covered. Thought I'd do a bit of a review for those who may be interested in this bike. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it. Forestboy
Thanks for the frank and honest info. Looking to test drive a TE GS 1250 which has been lowered (coming from an equally lowered Triump Tiger 12). Kinda knew about thre quick shifter, even the sales guy said it wasn't to be used in 1st or 2nd gears.. but everywhere else was ok. Nice to know about the brakes, as I wasn't confident in testing it in rainy weather, hoping I have a dry day to go exploring for 90 mins :)
@hensola thanks for the comments. Now on 12500 miles, currently on tour in Scotland, this bike is amazing. The QS is the only negative and you do get used to it. FB 👍
I picked up my new 1250 GSA last weekend and I agree it’s just a fantastic bike. Loving every minute of it. I thought I’d done a lot at 500 miles but you’ve managed 1000 in a week! 😮
@barrygormley1618 agree it certainly is an awesome bit of kit. You're right I do a lot of mileage. Hope you enjoy yours.👍
Hi, I have the same bike, that I got only 2 weeks ago, it’s 8 months old with 3k, I love but I am struggling with the gear box 1/2/3 with clutch I find quite clunky, I came from a 2011 1200GS but had a break from riding for 5 years but I don’t recall that gear box as being clunky as this new 1250, I would say 1/2 my changes are lovey as expected and 1/2 are really clunky.
Hopefully I haven’t bought a lemon.
Any advice appreciated.
Great channel btw
@popeyethesailor9 thanks for the comments much appreciated. Doubtful you've bought a lemon. You need to be firm with the gearbox, but I do find the 1250 better than the 1200 although none of the boxers are silky smooth. With the quickshifter don't use it from 1st to 2nd up or down. When going up you need the engine to be pulling with plenty of revs when going down the throttle must be fully closed. Just done a 10000 mile owners review where I mentioned the gearbox. Check it out. Good luck.👍😎
I too watched the other guy slate the GS suspension and like you can only assume it was the lower chassis version. My triple black, now 8 months old is just superb and I love the suspension ! I've had a R1200gs and a KTM (my previous bike) just no comparison. My only gripe is the hill start brake as I keep stalling it when I pull off. Another bit of a downer is they do tend to eat fuel when pushed but hey they are a 1250 when all said and done.
@banjo4839 haha I know what you mean, I do like to push mine but pay the price in fuel and tyres. Hear guys claiming 60mpg I can't get 50mpg, great fun though.😎
Good and balanced review many thanks!. I too don’t know what the other guy was ranting on about..…
@@JustinBikesnBites thanks 👍
Spent time on a Triumph Tiger 1200 and a Tiger 900 on vacation in Spain. I cannot fathom how he could prefer the Triumph suspension over the GS. If he was referring to Tiger. Maybe the GS was set up “soft” or “hard”, didn’t have ESA, or the guy is insane or a masochist?
🤣🤣
I’ve had a good few GS’s and agree the quick shifter can be a problem but it does seem to vary a great deal as well. I’ve had some that were very smooth from new, others that seemed to bed in after the mileage increased. I’ve also found there is on each bike a sweet spot for changing up especially, miss it and you get that stuck feeling. Never had one that had problem changing down.
Quick shifter is great shifting up 3 - 4 - 5. I avoid it shifting into the first three gears. BMW could do better.
@davidkendall1614 exactly, I do the same 👍
@@forestboy54 Great video btw. Well done capturing how I feel about the bike 😁.
What are you doing to only get that mileage, yes it’s a heavier bike and a shaft drive, I’ve a Kawasaki SX 1000 my last set of Michelin road fives I got just over 9000 miles second set I’m on 3700 miles up till now I don’t go nuts but ride it according to road and surface conditions,, Triumph service I believe is 10,000 miles between services now , I like both Tiger 1200 an the GS 1250 ,
It's probably all down to riding styles, I've always been hard on tyres. 😎
QuickShifter on my R1 was like you describe, Changing the oil helped a lot, but not 100%. My Ducati Panegale, quickshifts like butter from new. I know, different type of bike, but after we get used to using quickshifters, we like them to work consistently. I was checking out your video, because, I was always interested in adventure style bikes, but felt the BMW Adventure was too bulky, and tall. Then I came across The 1250GS Trophy, today, spoke with the owner, he explained to me the differences. So here I am checking out your video, you are pretty unbiased in your review, which is cool. Next time I am at the dealer, I will have to check out the Trophy. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for your review much appreciated. My son just sold a Yamaha Tracer 9GT and bought a 1250 GS. Did 200 miles on it today and he's blown away by it. Try one.
How did you fit the quad lock? thank you
@fabrycs I used a ball mount clamped to the gps bar, then drilled a hole through the ball and bolted the quad lock through the hole. Hope that makes sense. Using it to trial a phone gps system.
How come bmw can’t get the quick shifter right on the gs ? Everyone else seems to get it right .
Btw great review .
@edwardwinterhalter8331 no idea because the QS on the S1XR is sublime so they can obviously make a QS gearbox. Unless it's because it's a twin cylinder but it can be pretty brutal at times.
Thanks for the video 😃👍 I really would have liked to at least see the bike though! I'm hoping to get one like it. 🤞😀
@gillianbrodie6807 Hi if you check out the first ride video you can see the bike. There will be a 10'000 mile video coming soon.
@@forestboy54 Great. Thank you 🤗
@csaREEM you're right it wasn't all negative I only quickly mentioned his views on the suspension. Obviously we all have different opinions and long may it be so.👍
Agree with u pal i have gsa and i have had her a year put 7.5k on it and i have since got a daytona 955 i have turned that intova speed triple its a lovely little bike but as u say the gs is sooo easy to ride telever is superb all round luxury bike
Are you gonna chop her in for the 1300
@austinmatthews347 No , certainly not yet only had it 6 months, on 10000 miles now. Have to say I do like the 1300 from what I've seen. Glad they haven't chased crazy horsepower and applaud the changes. Be interesting to have a test ride. Currently off the bikes recovering from surgery. Can't wait to get back out and start filming.😎👍
@@forestboy54 i am test riding one a week on sat but i have told salesman my nike is 1 year old and he estimated my £19600 gsa is now only worth £14k yeah right so i will keep her to min 3 year old then see maybe about selling private and adding a few grand to buy a 2 year old one aa buying new was only a one off i love the gsa though
@austinmatthews347 that's exactly what I'll do as well. Don't normally buy new bikes because of the high mileage I do, this one was the first new one for years. Do love it though simply awesome bike.👍
Nice video. I am in agony . . I've wanted a GSA forever, I've ummed and Ahh'd for so long I know that if I get it now, I may very well kick myself when the new 1300/1400 comes out later this year . . So, I'm waiting and will just have to do with a loaner/rent GS until then and watch videos like yours to get a 'fix' 😁
As I change every 3 years that isn't an issue for me but I know what you mean. By the time I get into the 1300 any issues will have been sorted. Good luck 👍😎
Contemplating ktm1290SAS or this one. Any advise? I've never test driven either because I couldn't afford them. Now I can just about.
@expatbiker6598 I would try both as both are absolutely amazing bikes but a very different riding experience. BMW suits me better predominantly because of dealer support and servicing costs. KTM is a more focused riding experience. Enjoy.👍
Yeah, I watched that bloke bag out the suspension & I reckon he was full of shit myself. He admitted he had the lowered version & having less suspension travel does have a considerable impact. Since the GS is basically the same height as most of the other adventure bikes on the market, I just don't see why somebody with a shorter stature would want to get a bike that simply didn't suit them & then, try to twist the bloody thing down to get his fat arse on the bike with his feet flat on the ground.
One thing I've learned during this life is that there are plenty of winging plonkers in the world who can never be satisfied with anything, not even one of the best adventure bikes in the world.
Spot on. Bit like all the haters lining up to slag off the new 1300GS. If you're a Triumph Ducati or Honda etc fan why do you feel the need to slag off others choices. Funny old world.👍😎
I don't want to slag off the new 1300 but, at the moment, as much as I would like one , I really don't want one simply because of the fuel tank size.
I currently work in the mines & I'm drive in drive out & it's 620 KMs round trip. One of the reasons I want the GS is because of the range the 30Lt tank has. A 25 Ltr tank puts me back into the situation of having to carrying fuel bladders which is a right pain in arse.
I'm not sure how BMW riders will react to the greatly reduced fuel range of the new bikes. It's certainly a turn off to me.@@forestboy54
@@rotasaustralis Yeah but the 1400 GSA will be released soon, I'm sure that will have the larger tank. Not sure why BMW releases the variants at different times. 👍
Can't see that happening unless BMW want to cut their own throat. Maybe they'll see the error of their ways & release a 30 ltr tank variant.
I'm certainly no expert on the market forces involved but, going by all the vids I've seen, the 30 ltr tank was quite an influence on the market niche that BMW had. Anyhow, I'm about to buy a brand new GS adventure Trophy. It has everything I want & I'm looking fwd to a beautiful piece of engineering.@@forestboy54
Is that Dr.Feelgood playing at the beginning?
@leeholt3567 no but it is very similar and the reason I like it, I'm a big fan.👍
What gets me with road test is that every one tells you how much torque a motorcycle has and yet you see them riding in third, fourth, fifth all the time instead of using the so-called torque they have,I don’t get it.
It’s funny how GE owners only hear what they want too.
He praised that bike so much. You did not hear that.
All you heard was he said the suspension and brakes were bad.
I like the suspension on the GS at legal street speeds. However if you push it hard. It bounces over bumps and wallows. Hopefully the next GS has better suspension to catch up to KTM, Triumph and Ducati
