So SDE is owned by the wife of the owner of snail games? am I reading that correctly .. meaning snail games are essentially paying themselves for the license and can change the agreement terms at any time. also, and just my thoughts on Ark 2. At the moment with ASA they have an already established player base (admittedly currently fractured with ASE). They have a business model that allows original ASE maps to be free DLCs for ASA but all new maps to be purchasable. What could they possibly bring to Ark 2 that they can't already bring to ASA and it's already established player base? So, yeah, as and when ASA gets old and needs to be upgraded then they have Ark 2, but unlikely that's going to happen for a very long time. Also, I think I heard somewhere that wildcard were trying to sell the Ark 2 framework IP (not the dino game, but the underlying engine (no not UE)), probably because they did significant work towards Ark 2, but realise that by the time they get to use it it will be dated; so better to cash in on the work now.
I think given their precarious and ever declining revenue and outstanding debt issues, if there isnt a dramatic change in their fortunes, Ark 2 isn't likely to happen if the company cant remain afloat. And selling the ip in a fire sale would likely just result in a maint-mode for what already exists vs future quality development. After all in decades that we've seen game ip fire sales, 9.9 times out of 10, its a worse result for the player base.
As someone in the financial industry that regularly evaluates financial statements and licensing agreements, you are misinterpreting their language. Just because their monthly payments to wild card related to ASA terminate does not mean they lose the rights to ASA... it's not going to magically be "cast out." The ASA specific monthly payments just terminate as part of the agreement since at time of Ark 2 launch they will begin paying the Ark 2 associated fees to wild card. Also, snail will continue paying them royalties on ASA, it's just the separate monthly license fee component that disappears for ASA as the assumption is that its revenue will begin to decline at the time of Ark 2's release. Right after the snippet you mention it says "following the launch of [ASA] we will pay 25% of the total [ASA] revenues as a monthly royalty..." To be clear, I have very little faith in wild card AND snail, but want to clarify this conjecture. Otherwise, great video! @Ltbuzzlitebeer

Your explaination makes the most sense. really appreciate the time and paitence you took in clarifying it. and i agree. i lost faith in wild card and snail. i wont buy their games. and i done my best to educate my friends to not buy their products. especially on the HOPES of more to come. i said if u ever do decide to buy it. make sure u are buying somethig you will enjoy as is.... because it may collapse at any time. dont expect updates, etc..
Some information to fill the gap here. Snail Games owns Wildcard and has so since Dec 2015. SDC(an intentionally set up separate company from Snail Games USA) owns them. They do a payments system discussed so for tax/legal reasons. SDC is owned by the wife of the owner of Snail Games(Shi Hai). Its just typical corporate revenue shuffling scheme but its all owned by Snail/Shi Hai.
With Scorched having dropped 3 sales of ASA in the last 2 months, and yes this past weekend's free weekend, I was actually humorously surprised how BAD the numbers were from the uptick this past weekend. When you look at the context of it, they literally cant give away the game and reach good numbers of players as all that effort has translated to so little. I expected a punctuated uptick with player numbers but like I said, not so low as reflected with all done in the last 2 months. That's a very easy to see sign of just how bad the game and the player sentiment towards the company are. My prediction: expect things to get much worse.

The wording is for the original size of the center map, which really was 2x The Island. Its HUGE. 3x deep ocean, an underworld like Journey to the center of the earth, and a massive sky island as well. plus the massive overworld map was pretty big just on its own. Translating The Center is a huge undertaking that i hope they can nail down correctly, i remember how horribly buggy and outdated the older Center map was; which was made by a few, if not a single mod dev. But i also loved the center because it was my 1st map, so their is some nostalgia there, so i hope to see it finely realized in a modern and (hopefully) stable state.
@@Astrih_Konnash agreed, since it was near the 1st of its kind as the 1st mod map, its excusable. Seeing it brought up to the level of Valguero or Fjordur, like what the single dev Nekatus made at the end of the game's cycle is gunna be cool if they can pull it off.
My thing is, why make a second game if they're just rehashing old content? Can literally go play ASE and have less bugs and basically the same shit lmao
because many people are dumb enough to buy the old rehashed content AGAIN, thus giving the devs/publisher more money to sink into the new-new game that rehashes the old content again and again and again.
the reason is that Ark 2 will be more a story like game and they remake ark 1 because the wanna keep it as the usual multiplayer experience and they wanna keep creating content for it and the reason the remake it in ue5 is because the coding of ark in ue4 is a mess and they wanna use the same engine as ark 2 to keep it more easy up to date
ASA Center is not going to be bigger than ASE Center The wording was done very poorly. Basically they copied and pasted the same paragraph they used to advertise the original Center release for ASE, which mentioned that the map (Center) is nearly twice as big as the previously released map (The Island) All this means is that the Center is nearly twice as big as the Island, which we already knew. People misread this and are setting themselves up for disappointment.
My take out on this is that Wildcard will finish ASA first, go through the entire road map and release ARK 2 after that's done. Which with delays included we're looking at late 2026 or 2027. For us the consumers, this means Ragnarok in December 2024, Extinction in February 2025, the "Surprise" in April 2025 With a new Season Pass DLC to sell us another 40$ package for 3 DLC's that will come with, the "Surprise", and Genesis 1 + 2 until around April 2026 then you got Lost Island & Fjordur to release in the rest of 2026 with ARK 2 announced coming Q4 to be delayed Q1 or Q2 2027. That's just my prediction/speculation but to be fair this is based on my experience being loyal to Wildcard for the last 9 years.
For ark 2 It probably won't be out before 2029 and for ASA the maps will probably be delayed till a most 2027 until everything is released to ASA than they will probably spend 1 or 2 years fixing it than release ARK2 in 2029
Very interesting, especially the last bit. I imagine that Ark 2 won’t be with us for some time, as I imagine they would have alluded to its release in the financials if it was going to be released in the next financial year. As you state current roadmap takes us likely into 2026, so does that mean no Ark 2 until then? Lots of reading between the lines here, and always difficult to trust a single word snail say to be honest.
It has been joked about for a while now among many of us Legacy Ark players... ASA will soon face the exact same fate as ASE. As soon as Ark 2 releases...ASA will be killed off. Guess this just proves us right. Really sad. Ark was such a great game with years of possible content. To see it closed down with the massive amount of bugs and then the massive cash grab...just sad.

What that means is they no longer will be paying for the licence = no longer able to run the game as they do not hold the rights to it anymore. It doesn't matter if it's "not in competition" that's just copium for you to sniff trying to justify the absurd cash amounts you spent on this scamming cash grab.

I'm pretty sure that the majority of players probably bought ASE for $20 on sale, and then the pass on sale for probably not much more than that. They might have shelled out a little extra for gen1 and gen2.. But even if they spent $60 on base, $60 on pass, $60 on gen1, $60 on gen2, $60 on asa, $60 on bob's tales... which we know most people did not, but lets say they did just to lean the argument in your favor.. That'd be $360. That's the cost of playing WoW for two years. If they bought ASE and ASA and all of that, chances are they got more than two years out of it if they spent anywhere near $360. The reality is most people bought ASE on sale for $20, pass for $20-40, gen1 and gen2 I forget so we'll just say $60 each... ASA for $40, Bob's Tales for $30.. That's less than $250 at those prices. That's $180 for all of ASE's maps and another $70 for ASA assuming you bought Bob's Tales. Anyone that spent that money probably spent THOUSANDS of hours playing ARK. It's wild you're losing your marbles over the cost, when playing WoW for 2 years would have cost you just as much if not more. I got over 4k hours between ASA and ASE. Lets just assume I spent $400, I didn't mind you, cause I got ASE on sale, the pass on sale, gen1 and gen2 at full price, asa at $5 off, and didn't buy Bob's Tales. But LETS just assume I spent $400. $400 / 4000 hours = 10 cents per hour. The reality is that I spent less than $200, though. Making that less than 5 cents per hour of entertainment. There are games I've purchased for $60 and didn't get more than around 30 hours out of ($2/hr for the entertainment). I don't think you know what "absurd cash" means. Or maybe you just don't have a job and can't afford to buy games. Or perhaps you live in an area of the world where even if you work 60 hours a week you're pulling in less than $200 USD a month. In which case, that sucks, and I hope life gets better for you. But for most people playing these games, "absurd cash" is a baffling term to use, when the amount of hours they spend on the game can be extremely high. Now... if you're spending $200 and playing for less than 100 hours, yes, that's not a very good value. Just like buying a $60 game and spending less than 30 hours on it isn't a very good value. Mind you, in both situations, that is cheaper than going to the movies for the same time spent.
I think ark 2 will just be a total conversion on ark ascended cus of 2 reasons 1)they don’t have the manpower 2) nor the money to make a game form scratch

Same here. I started playing ASE about two weeks ago. Two characters, one on single player mode which I enjoy very much, and another on a server that I picked and I’m happy with it. Both characters are on the Island because it’s the first on the list and apparently the intended starter Ark. From my perspective I have so many maps and stuff to get through. Despite that, I’m taking my time and plodding through it at my own pace. No need to burn through it all. Not gonna lie though, ASE is one of the best games I’ve played in years. The last time I discovered a game and series that had me thinking about it outside of playing it so often was Fallout 4. After 3 and NV of course. It’s been so long since I eagerly awaited the time for the next play session, thinking up plans and even accidentally staying up too late because me and one of my new buddies were helping me tame my first wild Argy. There’s so much that I want to do, so many dinosaurs and other creatures to tame, gain mastery over the red forest and snowy biomes and establish a network of outposts across the Island. And that’s before I get into the artifacts and obelisk stuff. Admittedly I am tempted to find a suitable server with the Lost Island or crystal isles map to have a go there.
not all players play on the same days also we cannot see the number of active players on console. Look at Helldivers 2 for instance 8 million copies sold yet only an average of 250k daily players. So when steam shows 40k ark players there is probably just as many if not more players on console. The Scorched servers are packed they had to create more and will probably have to open even more soon.
I knew Ark Survival Ascended was a cash grab to fund the next big hit. Hence I didn't get it. Wasn't interested in getting a game that was gonna get shut down on release of another game.
All video games released now are cash grabs. It will be years before Ark2 is out, and just because one company isn't paying doesn't mean another can't step in.
It's highly doubtful that ASA will be shut down after ARK2 launch. They are in different genres. Worst case scenario, you'll be able to host/join private servers. Most people don't play on official servers anyways so as far as the community is concerned, it'll probably be a net gain. The contract wording just doesn't tell us what comes after the launch. All contracts basically have an end date when written... after they end, there's renegotiation. If it were me, I'd be renegotiating that $2m/mo pricing as the popularity will die down obviously. I'm 99.9% sure it's just written this way for AT LEAST that one reason alone. Assuming ASA will be shut down right after they just finish revamping it is short sighted and the content creator is jumping to conclusions and click baiting everyone.
When the Center was delayed they stated that this map was being done by different studio, and now they said their main force is on the Center? So they've took DLC from others to finish, to polish or they stated to calm down ... Who exactly - the players? The shareholders?
My guess its that this is just something to fill the mouths of players who claim that Community Managers aren't doing anything for the community and at least they are involved now in co-creation of ... Finished map? All this stinks like the old cheese 😅
So they originally stated that ASA was to be helped developed with Grove Street Games and also by Instinct, a studio in Egypt that worked previously on ASE as well. However, Instinct since then has gone dark regarding anything with Ark and dont even mention it on their website, fb etc. As for Grove Street(and Snail throwing them under the bus in February), let me say it like this. Snail Games-Wildcard is cashstrapped and quite frankly, my opinion is that they tried to kite paying Grove, they said no and stopped working on the project more with them and thus why now the tune has changed to being that WC is doing their work mostly on it. Their financials really are bad and getting worse. That's going to be reflected more and more in what transpires with ASA.
Tbh I think that announcement of center being released early was because the supposed 3rd party said it “might” be done for that release date and in true wildcard fashion, they just went ahead and said it would be released then instead of waiting for a for sure answer. I can only imagine if that is the case and what that other group was thinking when wildcard went and just announced the early map release on a possibility.
There was a couple things with the arc ascended. I was honestly thinking of buying it when it released, but I decided not to when it did come to Xbox. I played it with one of my brothers on split screen just to have it almost not work when the second player Was in to building something and scrolling up and down. We move the first player around, which is a major bug
Ill probably just keep playing ASE until some wild shit happens and the IP gets shut down completely. But as long as community run servers are up ill be playing.
As a very new player of ASE I’m having no trouble with playing a character on an unofficial server plus another character in single player, I’m quite content.
What I don't understand is why are delays considered such a bad thing and why is it so automatic to jump to a negative conclusion when we see them? Truly this bringing Ark up-to-date and the Stellar work that we've seen so far warrants an attitude of let's do this job right no matter what it takes kind of attitude. And frankly as a player I am blown away especially from a single player perspective on them actually finally making the game playable. You know how difficult it was for a player unfamiliar with the game to step in and suddenly know all of the settings to choose for their own server when they didn't even have a server and they were just wanting to play a new game? It only took one day of playing ASA to realize that I never did Master those settings as much as I thought I did. They're setting of medium though it took some of the interactions away from the game that I'm used to like actually taming dinos from infancy, it actually feels like a real game now. And as a single player I don't feel like an afterthought.
Ark offers many things. But it also proves why the live service model and lacking support is such a problem in the long run. Ark fans will have another game they will have to keep alive since the publisher and devs won't.
@@DJCJ. I know how that feeling. Half the time when it does, I log off fully expecting to continue on the next session but… never actually do. Other times I’ve realised that I’m not really enjoying it anymore and it’s almost being done out of habit and make the conscious decision to stop and move on. At the moment Ark has become somewhat of a special game for me. It’s incredibly rare for me to take to a new game like this. The last franchises that did were Fallout 3/NV4, Morrowind, Oblivion Skyrim and the Dragon Age series. Note that none of those are recent. But I’m having so much fun playing ASE. I’m still on the Island of course and I only have a handful of tames but I’m having fun. I look forward to the next game session and catch myself planning my next moves even when I’m not. I’ve picked a suitable server for my multiplayer character and have a second character for the solo mode. There’s so much to learn but it’s great fun doing so.
The latest patch finally fixed the weird dlc denial bug. I can tell ya that the initial release was flawless for me, but that damn day one patch is what introduced the bug, its so weird man, wtf is up with this company and quality control?! It has to be crunch and forced time quotas, stuff keeps getting released TOO EARLY. Also i pretty much predicted exactly that Ark really is Snail's lifeboat. I enjoy the hell out of this 'buildy-dino game', but hope that snail goes under. If it does Ark might go away for a while, but Snail will be forced to sell or Wildcard gets put in a vault to come back at a later date with better people. Either way, i did enjoy my time with it. I'm not an ultra competitive PVPer, just a casual dabbler, sometimes enjoyed the RP back in the day. But my god does snail's stupidity make even my eyes roll. Snail can burn in hell for all i care, to me wildcard still made a moderately entertaining and mostly functional game, that's all that matters. That love hate relationship, hehe.
If snail dies, so does studio wildcard and ark, the only way wildcard and ark are free of snail is if snail sells them off before it were to go under and ark wont benefit. Keep in mind that all the bugs and broken code is studio wildcard's fault, not snails, as wildcard writes the code not snail.
Snail is a world leader in Abandonware that is why I didn't buy it when they were involved from the start! hope this is not the case but suspect it will be!
No, scorched was only about 20GB which is small af, so the Center is only about a 35, pushing a 40GB. UE5 allows smaller update sized because is uses less actual hardware for whatever system you play on.

I'm actually glad about your news, I loved ARK and played it to death, remastering doesn't change the fact that the content isn't changed, Ived done everything, played it everyway I could but its dead in my game library. Now, ARK 2, I think it wasn't a poor imitation or ARK I'd be good. It sounds like the 2mil payment makes it worth the effort to launch ARK2,,,,, am I missing something here? Do you really want to keep playing this version.. I mean I like the way it works, but I'd like a new and better version of it. Some NEW content, Until then... I've played this to death. Oh an optimistic outlook, it might just mean Wildcard will take full control of ASA once Ark II is completed. But most likely once Ark II is done they're pulling the development plug on ASA to divert people into buying Ark II and can stop pooling resources into these other projects that are basically as you said a stop gap.
Did you hear about The Center and the lack of detail and the payed to when Pyromane. It's a resink Shadowmane with poor texture , and on fire 🔥 but it's only low price of $5.99... Sad.
For me that's a real skeptical way of looking at it that they're trying to use what they're producing now in order to pay that loyalty and they might lose interest after it's over. Everything they're working on is considered IP with longevity and it's going to belong to somebody and going to bring in money and from what you just said it'll be even more money once they don't have to pay the royalty. And for a developing company that needs more than one IP this actually makes sense
Hey Buzz as always great video though I am surprised you didn't mention the outrageous cost of the DLC I mean with the current steam sale the DLC is more than the base game just felt kinda off. I have not purchased ASA I am happy in ASE I don't see any stability or guarantee that the content I expect to get will be delivered and since I already paid for the DLC for ASE I don't wanna give em any more money. It would be incredibly weird for people to not realize that ASA is a financial surge TOWARDS Ark 2, which is the end and ultimate goal for the franchise; to somehow be shocked or disappointed that ASA is going to be cast to the side upon Ark 2 release is strange to say the least. ASA is just a polished rerelease of the original Ark anyway so as someone who has paid for ASA and Bob's dlc, bring on Ark 2, the sooner the better for actual new and fresh content.
I don't understand why they would shut down ASA; wouldn't it make more sense to shut down the older version ASE upon ASA being completed, as it's the same content, but newer and better graphics?
11:48 Just to clarify. No. It doesn't mean the end of ASA when ARK II releases. ASA was already doomed the second they turned around and slapped a hefty price tag on it as well as releasing premium mods and paid DLC during it's early access run, developing the game in reverse so to speak. They're putting resources into developing DLC that doesn't sell well at all while ignoring to optimize the base game. SDE Inc is Wildcard's parent company who's also affiliated with Snail Games (Literally one and the same as Shi Hai and his wife Zhou Ying control SDE Inc as well as Snail). This became apparent when Snail Ark was merged into Wildcard and 3 managers for Snail Ark became the managers for ARK while Stiegelitz and his wife were removed (Demoted) as managers according to online sources (They have not been listed as managers since 2016). Shi Hai and his wife Zhou Ying, has run Studio Wildcard ever since, in a non-public role. I posted on Steam a long time ago that Snail was going to go bankrupt before ARK II would be released due to their insane debt, and now it turns out i was right, as that's the direction they are indeed headed in, based on my analysis. Though they may be able to save themselves from going bankrupt, it's gonna drain all their resources and put them in more debt, which means they'd just postpone the inevitable. My bet is that Studio Wildcard will be sold off, eventually, to cover Snail's debt and make up for their monetary losses, or they might even try and sell the ARK IP to another company for the same reason, though honestly, i doubt anyone would want to touch that franchise given its history, so the former is more likely. Snail is known for pouring resources into failed franchises and end up just flat out stopping development on them, without even notifying their customers who bought into their early access schemes. Just look at Dark & Light as well as ATLAS. The former haven't had a single dev comment nor update for over 4 years, while the latter haven't had any dev comments or updates for a year now. Yes yes, they say that most of the devs working on ATLAS got moved to work on ARK II, then ASA etc, but did they, though?
Bob's Tall Tales proved that they have the capability of preserving a compromise between what they need and what the player desires at the same time as continuing to promote longevity for an IP that is more than likely going to outlast a majority of titles that compete with it on steam's list
Tall tales put the nail in the coffin for me, 3000 hours in ark SE, I wasn't even close to caving and buying into ASA, the 50 dollar tall tales pack made me laugh out loud Brain dead community supporting brain dead devs that are willing to make their game p2w to fund their holidays

As someone who has played ark since the release of Aberration, I will say I would much rather play survival evolved over ascended. if it wasn’t for the fact that I’m pretty much restricted to console, which Means that ascended is my only way to gaining access to luxuries such as mods. If they added mods to evolved I would honestly never Touch ascended again. Not only has ark survival ascended been turned into a quick cash-grab for scummy companies such as snail games but in my opinion I feel that the entire spark of ark as a whole will be taken away once Ark II gets released and I’m hoping that either ark ascended turns it’s ugly, buggy and honestly gross head and becomes more like what ark used to be, yes ASE was not perfect but it was some funny little dinosaur game that I hold close to my heart Thanks for reading (Sorry for the cheasy stuff but I truly hope ascended changes for the better)
Hey everyone, don't panic, I believe for sure the studio will release ARK 2 as an update into a giant DLC package for the game ARK Ascended and everyone will have to buy the content package part 2 chapters expanding the ARK universe at a Completely new storyline, and open cluster connectivity for all The Island, Scorched, and related maps..

I don't think they will get rid of ascended most likely they will do 1 of like 3 things. 1 they completely shut down ark evolved servers. And the person who typed that message ment ASE. 2 they turn Ark acended into ark 2 as like a huge update/dlc drop. 3 they release AS2 and keep ASA and ASE
I really feel like they screwed themselves over having to partner with Nitrado for exclusive server hosting. The price is so ridiculously high through them vs ASE server costs that a lot of people just won't upgrade because of how much more they'd have to pay to play with friends. I will say, on console ASA is an incredibly better experience, ASE barely even ran in comparison. But on pc, I can see a lot of people just holding off and using mods to make up for anything they might be missing out on. People are also just waiting until more maps are out, more mods are finished, and more bugs are ironed out before buying.
my two favorite maps on ASE are Ragnarök and I like the looks of Aberration I am not doing another story play through I would jump on rag get a horse right away then jump on the island then do the story play through , Val is a good looking map also but I like rag a little better much more variety and easier start because you get carrots tame a couple of horse bread them a little and your pretty much set for taming early on as for ark 2 I am not holding my breath and even when it comes out I think I will wait for a while they still haven't fixed some issues in ASA yet I think that when ARK 2 comes out they should give a discount to all the players that already have ASE and ASA if the ydid that then I probably wouldnt hesitate buying iot but I think i am kidding myself I probably would end up buying it like i said all the same for ASA and well grabbed it as soon as it was early access hehe. I did jump on scorched earth and the funny thing was I took my story character from the island loaded it on the hardest part on scorched and was able to run all the way to the obby grab my gear with out dieing which in ASE all the 100+ playthroughs I have done I never made it to the OPBI with out dieing at least once when IO spawn erven on the easiest part of the map . but then I stopped because i am in the middle of a different game when I finish I will play through scortched
Last November they took ark off the Play store! I can barely find any news regarding why it got taken off or when it will return. I just hope it is back on the Play store soon, I can only play it if it is still on the playstore :(
Center was always double size of the island, they're just playing marketing games. 4th Quarter report pretty much solidified what you and I have been saying was going on: ASA is just a means to keep the company afloat and try to get ark 2 out. However because they're still massively in debt, lost money last year even with ASA's release, and sales have been not good, Snail-Wildcard is either going to have to get more aggressive with their microtransactioning through shared revenue of premium mods, packs, and more mtx, else, quite frankly, the writing for the company/IP is on the wall. This also likely relates to why little to no mention of the "work" from their "3rd party" groups like Grove Street has been mentioned much and they threw them under the bus concerning work done with them for the Center. My take on that: they didnt have the money to pay them for the work for Center and much else and have instead had to resort to working on it internally, thus putting off/kiting releases for it(and much else going forward). All in all, future's not looking good for Snail-Wildcard and given the chicanery that they've done for a long while now, I'm ok with that sunsetting to be quite honest. I just dont see any point to support them when their practices lend to the malaise of the industry in these sorts of regards. There are just SO MANY better games out there with better teams that at least attempt to make an effort to work with their community instead of blatantly treat them with derision as Snail-Wildcard has for years(and ever worsening).

So what's the use of putting in any more time and effort if A:SA is destined to get abandoned? That's a conundrum for a lot of players who love A: SA ,but also would like to check out Ark 2. I'd feel like, I wanna play A 2 but I don't wanna lose A:SA because what if A2 sucks? This is gonna hurt one way or the other.
Not to call into question all of the work that you put into research this information, but I think it's a pretty big assumption to conclude ASA is just a stopgap. Let the game speak for itself, let the passion of the developers be the receipt that this is so much more than a stopgap. With the release of Scorched Earth, and the plans for all the new maps and content over the next couple years, I think it's safe to assume Studio Wildcard loves what they do.
For those that do not know, SDE Inc. is an affiliate of Snail Games USA, the American branch of the Chinese video game company Snail Games and is the parent company of Studio Wildcard. The license talk is interesting considering both those companies are essentially the same company with the same married couple controlling them both Ying Zhou is ceo of SDE Inc and the wife of Shi Hai the owner and ceo of Snail, why is a company paying a license fee to itself for an ip it controls?. ASA was always supposed to be done when Ark 2 launched. That was part of the marketing of providing an evergreen game offering that they could leave behind as an improved version of ASE when they eventually abandon it for ark 2. Meanwhile, in other news, both the pot and kettle are black.
The only reason I could see them exchanging money like this is so they can cut on serious tax breaks for their quarterly Most corporations are owned by a parent company that has a separate agenda, then the actual one we see for face value... Would not be surprised if this is a big money laundering scheme.😅

I really don't think ARK 2 will go live for at least another year. ASA will be the "main" title for a while. Long enough, that I'm fairly confident that they're still be some more substantial changes to the black and white of the devs and publishers plans.
I'mma be real with you guys, I'll be shocked if ASA makes it to an Extinction release. It is egregiously obvious ASA is little more than a lifeboat for SG, one that juuuuust has to get them to a barely-functioning Ark 2 release. The minute it "releases" (maybe only into early access?) they'll shutter ASA support and cancel any further official map releases.

I have a high end PC. 5900x and a 3080 Ti. I cannot run ASA at a reasonable framerate at all. This game is SO badly optimized.... I have zero faith ARK2 will show up, or will be any better.
They're shutting down any criticism of the animated series in the discord. I called out how wild card allowed al of their characters to be cheapened by leaving out their initial growth on the ARKs. I had words about the disposable characters being all the same race but that wasn't as important as getting shut down was. That might live rent free in my head for a while..

Wildcard best allow mods and be not as strict with it. Them trying to pull a Skyrim won’t work unless they allow more creator mods. Now that it’s on gamepass I can try it through cloud gaming. It is fun updated graphics is amazing I’ll give it that
Just that last statement alone indicates that they will push ASA all the way to the last Map. This would give them time but knowing how corrupt Snail is they’ll probably rush to push Ark 2 out so they don’t have to pay that 2 million. I’m excited for Ark 2. I want something different than Ark ASA. The toxic structure of how the transferring of servers and PVP is currently turns a bunch of people off along with how OP TEK is.
They have to push ASA. Its their primary source of revenue and its not doing well at all. There is no work on Ark 2 right now what so ever as reflected in the financial statements and as well with Jeremy Steiglitz having said so with the whole team on ASA when he said it back in both December's ExtraLife event and later again in Jan on twitter. Snail-WC's financial situation is rather dire.
Are their Devs still banning players for playing the game? Like when players attacked a GM's base legitly without hacking just using what the game has and is completely normal they banned them for it? If they still haven't cleaned up their shit no point in even getting this game.

They can't pull the plug on ASA. Ark II is not going to be a game that the current Ark community will gravetate to. The gameplay, at least from what they have described to us, is too different, to the point of it being a totally different genre. They need the Ark players from ASE and ASA to remain in business. Ark II will not be a long-term money maker.
if they think they can afford to send $2 Mil per month, that means they believe they will sell more than that in DLC. That means they need to keep putting out new content. Let's see if they sink it instead.
I haven't played Ark in a couple of years. What are they doing this year? Slowly releasing official versions of modder created content? Which all will be rendered useless once Ark 2 launches? This has always been a messy game to keep up with.
It's entirely possible to have billions of revenue and yet close the year with a loss. Remember, income - spendings = profit or loss. In many startups and digital companies the budgets dedicated to advertising is huge, making out easly 20% af all spendings, in some cases even as much as 50%. 1.6 million p.a. for advertising is not much compared to their total spendings. All the loans, licences etc gonna eat up the income and they probably can't afford to pump more money into advertising. I'd love to understand the loss/liability side of their operations more, but I guess it's not that interesting for Ark as a game and us as players. (BTW I'm not a native speaker so pardon if I'm not using the correct financial terminology.)
And let's be honest a lot of those players that are grumbling and remaining with the first version over the second is because they don't like to play by the rules anyway. Yes there are major issues to Grumble about like proprietary servers and paying too much for something that you've already invested into before. But let's face it Ark has already turned into something far beyond what the average player ever gets to see and they know it. They just gotten used to being able to do what they want on their piece of the playground.

also, and just my thoughts on Ark 2. At the moment with ASA they have an already established player base (admittedly currently fractured with ASE). They have a business model that allows original ASE maps to be free DLCs for ASA but all new maps to be purchasable. What could they possibly bring to Ark 2 that they can't already bring to ASA and it's already established player base? So, yeah, as and when ASA gets old and needs to be upgraded then they have Ark 2, but unlikely that's going to happen for a very long time. Also, I think I heard somewhere that wildcard were trying to sell the Ark 2 framework IP (not the dino game, but the underlying engine (no not UE)), probably because they did significant work towards Ark 2, but realise that by the time they get to use it it will be dated; so better to cash in on the work now.
If Snail Financials are this bad, they might add premium battle passes, microtransactions, and cash shops to ARK.
If they plan to shut down ASA as soon as Ark II comes out....well.....nothing to worry about folks. That's on pace to come out in early 2038...

I think given their precarious and ever declining revenue and outstanding debt issues, if there isnt a dramatic change in their fortunes, Ark 2 isn't likely to happen if the company cant remain afloat. And selling the ip in a fire sale would likely just result in a maint-mode for what already exists vs future quality development. After all in decades that we've seen game ip fire sales, 9.9 times out of 10, its a worse result for the player base.

As someone in the financial industry that regularly evaluates financial statements and licensing agreements, you are misinterpreting their language. Just because their monthly payments to wild card related to ASA terminate does not mean they lose the rights to ASA... it's not going to magically be "cast out." The ASA specific monthly payments just terminate as part of the agreement since at time of Ark 2 launch they will begin paying the Ark 2 associated fees to wild card. Also, snail will continue paying them royalties on ASA, it's just the separate monthly license fee component that disappears for ASA as the assumption is that its revenue will begin to decline at the time of Ark 2's release. Right after the snippet you mention it says "following the launch of [ASA] we will pay 25% of the total [ASA] revenues as a monthly royalty..." To be clear, I have very little faith in wild card AND snail, but want to clarify this conjecture. Otherwise, great video! @Ltbuzzlitebeer

Some information to fill the gap here. Snail Games owns Wildcard and has so since Dec 2015. SDC(an intentionally set up separate company from Snail Games USA) owns them. They do a payments system discussed so for tax/legal reasons. SDC is owned by the wife of the owner of Snail Games(Shi Hai). Its just typical corporate revenue shuffling scheme but its all owned by Snail/Shi Hai.
The current Asa player numbers is a bit flawed to look at right now. Since it has been free on steam for this weekend

With Scorched having dropped 3 sales of ASA in the last 2 months, and yes this past weekend's free weekend, I was actually humorously surprised how BAD the numbers were from the uptick this past weekend. When you look at the context of it, they literally cant give away the game and reach good numbers of players as all that effort has translated to so little. I expected a punctuated uptick with player numbers but like I said, not so low as reflected with all done in the last 2 months.
That's a very easy to see sign of just how bad the game and the player sentiment towards the company are. My prediction: expect things to get much worse.

The wording is for the original size of the center map, which really was 2x The Island. Its HUGE. 3x deep ocean, an underworld like Journey to the center of the earth, and a massive sky island as well. plus the massive overworld map was pretty big just on its own. Translating The Center is a huge undertaking that i hope they can nail down correctly, i remember how horribly buggy and outdated the older Center map was; which was made by a few, if not a single mod dev. But i also loved the center because it was my 1st map, so their is some nostalgia there, so i hope to see it finely realized in a modern and (hopefully) stable state.
Parts of Center looks like it was never finished, but it's a beautiful and big map
@@Astrih_Konnash agreed, since it was near the 1st of its kind as the 1st mod map, its excusable. Seeing it brought up to the level of Valguero or Fjordur, like what the single dev Nekatus made at the end of the game's cycle is gunna be cool if they can pull it off.

because many people are dumb enough to buy the old rehashed content AGAIN, thus giving the devs/publisher more money to sink into the new-new game that rehashes the old content again and again and again.
the reason is that Ark 2 will be more a story like game and they remake ark 1 because the wanna keep it as the usual multiplayer experience and they wanna keep creating content for it and the reason the remake it in ue5 is because the coding of ark in ue4 is a mess and they wanna use the same engine as ark 2 to keep it more easy up to date

ASA Center is not going to be bigger than ASE Center
The wording was done very poorly. Basically they copied and pasted the same paragraph they used to advertise the original Center release for ASE, which mentioned that the map (Center) is nearly twice as big as the previously released map (The Island)
All this means is that the Center is nearly twice as big as the Island, which we already knew.
People misread this and are setting themselves up for disappointment.
My take out on this is that Wildcard will finish ASA first, go through the entire road map and release ARK 2 after that's done. Which with delays included we're looking at late 2026 or 2027.
For us the consumers, this means Ragnarok in December 2024, Extinction in February 2025, the "Surprise" in April 2025 With a new Season Pass DLC to sell us another 40$ package for 3 DLC's that will come with, the "Surprise", and Genesis 1 + 2 until around April 2026 then you got Lost Island & Fjordur to release in the rest of 2026 with ARK 2 announced coming Q4 to be delayed Q1 or Q2 2027. That's just my prediction/speculation but to be fair this is based on my experience being loyal to Wildcard for the last 9 years.
For ark 2 It probably won't be out before 2029 and for ASA the maps will probably be delayed till a most 2027 until everything is released to ASA than they will probably spend 1 or 2 years fixing it than release ARK2 in 2029

I imagine that Ark 2 won’t be with us for some time, as I imagine they would have alluded to its release in the financials if it was going to be released in the next financial year. As you state current roadmap takes us likely into 2026, so does that mean no Ark 2 until then? Lots of reading between the lines here, and always difficult to trust a single word snail say to be honest.

I'm pretty sure that the majority of players probably bought ASE for $20 on sale, and then the pass on sale for probably not much more than that. They might have shelled out a little extra for gen1 and gen2.. But even if they spent $60 on base, $60 on pass, $60 on gen1, $60 on gen2, $60 on asa, $60 on bob's tales... which we know most people did not, but lets say they did just to lean the argument in your favor.. That'd be $360. That's the cost of playing WoW for two years.
If they bought ASE and ASA and all of that, chances are they got more than two years out of it if they spent anywhere near $360. The reality is most people bought ASE on sale for $20, pass for $20-40, gen1 and gen2 I forget so we'll just say $60 each... ASA for $40, Bob's Tales for $30.. That's less than $250 at those prices. That's $180 for all of ASE's maps and another $70 for ASA assuming you bought Bob's Tales.
Anyone that spent that money probably spent THOUSANDS of hours playing ARK. It's wild you're losing your marbles over the cost, when playing WoW for 2 years would have cost you just as much if not more. I got over 4k hours between ASA and ASE. Lets just assume I spent $400, I didn't mind you, cause I got ASE on sale, the pass on sale, gen1 and gen2 at full price, asa at $5 off, and didn't buy Bob's Tales. But LETS just assume I spent $400. $400 / 4000 hours = 10 cents per hour. The reality is that I spent less than $200, though. Making that less than 5 cents per hour of entertainment. There are games I've purchased for $60 and didn't get more than around 30 hours out of ($2/hr for the entertainment).
I don't think you know what "absurd cash" means. Or maybe you just don't have a job and can't afford to buy games. Or perhaps you live in an area of the world where even if you work 60 hours a week you're pulling in less than $200 USD a month. In which case, that sucks, and I hope life gets better for you. But for most people playing these games, "absurd cash" is a baffling term to use, when the amount of hours they spend on the game can be extremely high.
Now... if you're spending $200 and playing for less than 100 hours, yes, that's not a very good value. Just like buying a $60 game and spending less than 30 hours on it isn't a very good value. Mind you, in both situations, that is cheaper than going to the movies for the same time spent.
I think ark 2 will just be a total conversion on ark ascended cus of 2 reasons
1)they don’t have the manpower
2) nor the money to make a game form scratch

Same here. I started playing ASE about two weeks ago. Two characters, one on single player mode which I enjoy very much, and another on a server that I picked and I’m happy with it.
Both characters are on the Island because it’s the first on the list and apparently the intended starter Ark. From my perspective I have so many maps and stuff to get through.
Despite that, I’m taking my time and plodding through it at my own pace. No need to burn through it all. Not gonna lie though, ASE is one of the best games I’ve played in years.
The last time I discovered a game and series that had me thinking about it outside of playing it so often was Fallout 4. After 3 and NV of course. It’s been so long since I eagerly awaited the time for the next play session, thinking up plans and even accidentally staying up too late because me and one of my new buddies were helping me tame my first wild Argy.
There’s so much that I want to do, so many dinosaurs and other creatures to tame, gain mastery over the red forest and snowy biomes and establish a network of outposts across the Island.
And that’s before I get into the artifacts and obelisk stuff. Admittedly I am tempted to find a suitable server with the Lost Island or crystal isles map to have a go there.

not all players play on the same days also we cannot see the number of active players on console. Look at Helldivers 2 for instance 8 million copies sold yet only an average of 250k daily players. So when steam shows 40k ark players there is probably just as many if not more players on console. I knew Ark Survival Ascended was a cash grab to fund the next big hit. Hence I didn't get it.
Wasn't interested in getting a game that was gonna get shut down on release of another game.
All video games released now are cash grabs. It will be years before Ark2 is out, and just because one company isn't paying doesn't mean another can't step in.
It's highly doubtful that ASA will be shut down after ARK2 launch. They are in different genres. Worst case scenario, you'll be able to host/join private servers. Most people don't play on official servers anyways so as far as the community is concerned, it'll probably be a net gain. The contract wording just doesn't tell us what comes after the launch. All contracts basically have an end date when written... after they end, there's renegotiation. If it were me, I'd be renegotiating that $2m/mo pricing as the popularity will die down obviously. I'm 99.9% sure it's just written this way for AT LEAST that one reason alone. Assuming ASA will be shut down right after they just finish revamping it is short sighted and the content creator is jumping to conclusions and click baiting everyone.

So they originally stated that ASA was to be helped developed with Grove Street Games and also by Instinct, a studio in Egypt that worked previously on ASE as well. However, Instinct since then has gone dark regarding anything with Ark and dont even mention it on their website, fb etc. As for Grove Street(and Snail throwing them under the bus in February), let me say it like this. Snail Games-Wildcard is cashstrapped and quite frankly, my opinion is that they tried to kite paying Grove, they said no and stopped working on the project more with them and thus why now the tune has changed to being that WC is doing their work mostly on it.
Their financials really are bad and getting worse. That's going to be reflected more and more in what transpires with ASA.

Tbh I think that announcement of center being released early was because the supposed 3rd party said it “might” be done for that release date and in true wildcard fashion, they just went ahead and said it would be released then instead of waiting for a for sure answer.
I can only imagine if that is the case and what that other group was thinking when wildcard went and just announced the early map release on a possibility.
There was a couple things with the arc ascended. I was honestly thinking of buying it when it released, but I decided not to when it did come to Xbox. I played it with one of my brothers on split screen just to have it almost not work when the second player Was in to building something and scrolling up and down. We move the first player around, which is a major bug
Ill probably just keep playing ASE until some wild shit happens and the IP gets shut down completely. But as long as community run servers are up ill be playing.
As a very new player of ASE I’m having no trouble with playing a character on an unofficial server plus another character in single player, I’m quite content.
What I don't understand is why are delays considered such a bad thing and why is it so automatic to jump to a negative conclusion when we see them? Truly this bringing Ark up-to-date and the Stellar work that we've seen so far warrants an attitude of let's do this job right no matter what it takes kind of attitude. And frankly as a player I am blown away especially from a single player perspective on them actually finally making the game playable. You know how difficult it was for a player unfamiliar with the game to step in and suddenly know all of the settings to choose for their own server when they didn't even have a server and they were just wanting to play a new game? It only took one day of playing ASA to realize that I never did Master those settings as much as I thought I did. They're setting of medium though it took some of the interactions away from the game that I'm used to like actually taming dinos from infancy, it actually feels like a real game now. And as a single player I don't feel like an afterthought.
Ark offers many things. But it also proves why the live service model and lacking support is such a problem in the long run. Ark fans will have another game they will have to keep alive since the publisher and devs won't.
Played for 7 years. We've moved on, but appreciate all you do, Buzz.

@@DJCJ. I know how that feeling. Half the time when it does, I log off fully expecting to continue on the next session but… never actually do. Other times I’ve realised that I’m not really enjoying it anymore and it’s almost being done out of habit and make the conscious decision to stop and move on.
At the moment Ark has become somewhat of a special game for me. It’s incredibly rare for me to take to a new game like this. The last franchises that did were Fallout 3/NV4, Morrowind, Oblivion Skyrim and the Dragon Age series. Note that none of those are recent.
But I’m having so much fun playing ASE. I’m still on the Island of course and I only have a handful of tames but I’m having fun. I look forward to the next game session and catch myself planning my next moves even when I’m not. I’ve picked a suitable server for my multiplayer character and have a second character for the solo mode.
There’s so much to learn but it’s great fun doing so.
The latest patch finally fixed the weird dlc denial bug. I can tell ya that the initial release was flawless for me, but that damn day one patch is what introduced the bug, its so weird man, wtf is up with this company and quality control?! It has to be crunch and forced time quotas, stuff keeps getting released TOO EARLY.
Also i pretty much predicted exactly that Ark really is Snail's lifeboat. I enjoy the hell out of this 'buildy-dino game', but hope that snail goes under. If it does Ark might go away for a while, but Snail will be forced to sell or Wildcard gets put in a vault to come back at a later date with better people. Either way, i did enjoy my time with it. I'm not an ultra competitive PVPer, just a casual dabbler, sometimes enjoyed the RP back in the day. But my god does snail's stupidity make even my eyes roll. Snail can burn in hell for all i care, to me wildcard still made a moderately entertaining and mostly functional game, that's all that matters. That love hate relationship, hehe.
If snail dies, so does studio wildcard and ark, the only way wildcard and ark are free of snail is if snail sells them off before it were to go under and ark wont benefit. Keep in mind that all the bugs and broken code is studio wildcard's fault, not snails, as wildcard writes the code not snail.
Just thought about it. Making the center bigger makes sense to add more water and really dive into the water aspect of the map

No, scorched was only about 20GB which is small af, so the Center is only about a 35, pushing a 40GB. UE5 allows smaller update sized because is uses less actual hardware for whatever system you play on.

I'm actually glad about your news, I loved ARK and played it to death, remastering doesn't change the fact that the content isn't changed, Ived done everything, played it everyway I could but its dead in my game library. Now, ARK 2, I think it wasn't a poor imitation or ARK I'd be good. It sounds like the 2mil payment makes it worth the effort to launch ARK2,,,,, am I missing something here? Oh an optimistic outlook, it might just mean Wildcard will take full control of ASA once Ark II is completed. But most likely once Ark II is done they're pulling the development plug on ASA to divert people into buying Ark II and can stop pooling resources into these other projects that are basically as you said a stop gap.

For me that's a real skeptical way of looking at it that they're trying to use what they're producing now in order to pay that loyalty and they might lose interest after it's over. Everything they're working on is considered IP with longevity and it's going to belong to somebody and going to bring in money and from what you just said it'll be even more money once they don't have to pay the royalty. And for a developing company that needs more than one IP this actually makes sense
Hey Buzz as always great video though I am surprised you didn't mention the outrageous cost of the DLC I mean with the current steam sale the DLC is more than the base game just felt kinda off. I have not purchased ASA I am happy in ASE I don't see any stability or guarantee that the content I expect to get will be delivered and since I already paid for the DLC for ASE I don't wanna give em any more money. It would be incredibly weird for people to not realize that ASA is a financial surge TOWARDS Ark 2, which is the end and ultimate goal for the franchise; to somehow be shocked or disappointed that ASA is going to be cast to the side upon Ark 2 release is strange to say the least. ASA is just a polished rerelease of the original Ark anyway so as someone who has paid for ASA and Bob's dlc, bring on Ark 2, the sooner the better for actual new and fresh content.

11:48 Just to clarify. No. It doesn't mean the end of ASA when ARK II releases. ASA was already doomed the second they turned around and slapped a hefty price tag on it as well as releasing premium mods and paid DLC during it's early access run, developing the game in reverse so to speak. They're putting resources into developing DLC that doesn't sell well at all while ignoring to optimize the base game.
SDE Inc is Wildcard's parent company who's also affiliated with Snail Games (Literally one and the same as Shi Hai and his wife Zhou Ying control SDE Inc as well as Snail). This became apparent when Snail Ark was merged into Wildcard and 3 managers for Snail Ark became the managers for ARK while Stiegelitz and his wife were removed (Demoted) as managers according to online sources (They have not been listed as managers since 2016). Shi Hai and his wife Zhou Ying, has run Studio Wildcard ever since, in a non-public role.
I posted on Steam a long time ago that Snail was going to go bankrupt before ARK II would be released due to their insane debt, and now it turns out i was right, as that's the direction they are indeed headed in, based on my analysis. Though they may be able to save themselves from going bankrupt, it's gonna drain all their resources and put them in more debt, which means they'd just postpone the inevitable.
My bet is that Studio Wildcard will be sold off, eventually, to cover Snail's debt and make up for their monetary losses, or they might even try and sell the ARK IP to another company for the same reason, though honestly, i doubt anyone would want to touch that franchise given its history, so the former is more likely.
Snail is known for pouring resources into failed franchises and end up just flat out stopping development on them, without even notifying their customers who bought into their early access schemes. Just look at Dark & Light as well as ATLAS. The former haven't had a single dev comment nor update for over 4 years, while the latter haven't had any dev comments or updates for a year now. Yes yes, they say that most of the devs working on ATLAS got moved to work on ARK II, then ASA etc, but did they, though?
Bob's Tall Tales proved that they have the capability of preserving a compromise between what they need and what the player desires at the same time as continuing to promote longevity for an IP that is more than likely going to outlast a majority of titles that compete with it on steam's list
Tall tales put the nail in the coffin for me, 3000 hours in ark SE, I wasn't even close to caving and buying into ASA, the 50 dollar tall tales pack made me laugh out loud

Hey everyone, don't panic, I believe for sure the studio will release ARK 2 as an update into a giant DLC package for the game ARK Ascended and everyone will have to buy the content package part 2 chapters expanding the ARK universe at a Completely new storyline, and open cluster connectivity for all The Island, Scorched, and related maps..

I really feel like they screwed themselves over having to partner with Nitrado for exclusive server hosting. The price is so ridiculously high through them vs ASE server costs that a lot of people just won't upgrade because of how much more they'd have to pay to play with friends. I will say, on console ASA is an incredibly better experience, ASE barely even ran in comparison. But on pc, I can see a lot of people just holding off and using mods to make up for anything they might be missing out on. People are also just waiting until more maps are out, more mods are finished, and more bugs are ironed out before buying.
my two favorite maps on ASE are Ragnarök and I like the looks of Aberration I am not doing another story play through I would jump on rag get a horse right away then jump on the island then do the story play through , Val is a good looking map also but I like rag a little better much more variety and easier start because you get carrots tame a couple of horse bread them a little and your pretty much set for taming early on
as for ark 2 I am not holding my breath and even when it comes out I think I will wait for a while they still haven't fixed some issues in ASA yet I think that when ARK 2 comes out they should give a discount to all the players that already have ASE and ASA if the ydid that then I probably wouldnt hesitate buying iot but I think i am kidding myself I probably would end up buying it like i said all the same for ASA and well grabbed it as soon as it was early access hehe. I did jump on scorched earth and the funny thing was I took my story character from the island loaded it on the hardest part on scorched and was able to run all the way to the obby grab my gear with out dieing which in ASE all the 100+ playthroughs I have done I never made it to the OPBI with out dieing at least once when IO spawn erven on the easiest part of the map . but then I stopped because i am in the middle of a different game when I finish I will play through scortched
Last November they took ark off the Play store! I can barely find any news regarding why it got taken off or when it will return. I just hope it is back on the Play store soon, I can only play it if it is still on the playstore :(
Center was always double size of the island, they're just playing marketing games. 4th Quarter report pretty much solidified what you and I have been saying was going on: ASA is just a means to keep the company afloat and try to get ark 2 out. However because they're still massively in debt, lost money last year even with ASA's release, and sales have been not good, Snail-Wildcard is either going to have to get more aggressive with their microtransactioning through shared revenue of premium mods, packs, and more mtx, else, quite frankly, the writing for the company/IP is on the wall.
This also likely relates to why little to no mention of the "work" from their "3rd party" groups like Grove Street has been mentioned much and they threw them under the bus concerning work done with them for the Center. My take on that: they didnt have the money to pay them for the work for Center and much else and have instead had to resort to working on it internally, thus putting off/kiting releases for it(and much else going forward).
All in all, future's not looking good for Snail-Wildcard and given the chicanery that they've done for a long while now, I'm ok with that sunsetting to be quite honest. I just dont see any point to support them when their practices lend to the malaise of the industry in these sorts of regards. There are just SO MANY better games out there with better teams that at least attempt to make an effort to work with their community instead of blatantly treat them with derision as Snail-Wildcard has for years(and ever worsening).

So what's the use of putting in any more time and effort if A:SA is destined to get abandoned? That's a conundrum for a lot of players who love A: SA ,but also would like to check out Ark 2. I'd feel like, I wanna play A 2 but I don't wanna lose A:SA because what if A2 sucks? This is gonna hurt one way or the other.
Not to call into question all of the work that you put into research this information, but I think it's a pretty big assumption to conclude ASA is just a stopgap. Let the game speak for itself, let the passion of the developers be the receipt that this is so much more than a stopgap. With the release of Scorched Earth, and the plans for all the new maps and content over the next couple years, I think it's safe to assume Studio Wildcard loves what they do.

For those that do not know, SDE Inc. is an affiliate of Snail Games USA, the American branch of the Chinese video game company Snail Games and is the parent company of Studio Wildcard. The license talk is interesting considering both those companies are essentially the same company with the same married couple controlling them both Ying Zhou is ceo of SDE Inc and the wife of Shi Hai the owner and ceo of Snail, why is a company paying a license fee to itself for an ip it controls?. ASA was always supposed to be done when Ark 2 launched. That was part of the marketing of providing an evergreen game offering that they could leave behind as an improved version of ASE when they eventually abandon it for ark 2. Meanwhile, in other news, both the pot and kettle are black.

I really don't think ARK 2 will go live for at least another year. ASA will be the "main" title for a while. Long enough, that I'm fairly confident that they're still be some more substantial changes to the black and white of the devs and publishers plans.
I'mma be real with you guys, I'll be shocked if ASA makes it to an Extinction release. It is egregiously obvious ASA is little more than a lifeboat for SG, one that juuuuust has to get them to a barely-functioning Ark 2 release. The minute it "releases" (maybe only into early access?) they'll shutter ASA support and cancel any further official map releases.

I can confirm that it looks and runs very poorly on a Xbox series S. At the moment ASE is a better option for me.

I have a high end PC. 5900x and a 3080 Ti. I cannot run ASA at a reasonable framerate at all. This game is SO badly optimized.... I have zero faith ARK2 will show up, or will be any better.

They're shutting down any criticism of the animated series in the discord. I called out how wild card allowed al of their characters to be cheapened by leaving out their initial growth on the ARKs. I had words about the disposable characters being all the same race but that wasn't as important as getting shut down was. That might live rent free in my head for a while..

Wildcard best allow mods and be not as strict with it. Them trying to pull a Skyrim won’t work unless they allow more creator mods. Now that it’s on gamepass I can try it through cloud gaming. It is fun updated graphics is amazing I’ll give it that

Just that last statement alone indicates that they will push ASA all the way to the last Map. This would give them time but knowing how corrupt Snail is they’ll probably rush to push Ark 2 out so they don’t have to pay that 2 million. I’m excited for Ark 2. I want something different than Ark ASA. The toxic structure of how the transferring of servers and PVP is currently turns a bunch of people off along with how OP TEK is.
They have to push ASA. Its their primary source of revenue and its not doing well at all. There is no work on Ark 2 right now what so ever as reflected in the financial statements and as well with Jeremy Steiglitz having said so with the whole team on ASA when he said it back in both December's ExtraLife event and later again in Jan on twitter. Snail-WC's financial situation is rather dire.
If they pull the plug, you can likely count on making videos on the closure of snail games and wildcard. Not to mention massive lawsuits.

How could you have bought bob’s tall tales on ASE? And you don’t have to buy the pack if you don’t want to lol. If you’re talking about having pay for the DLC maps you don’t have to. All legacy maps are free. And if you’re referring to having to just buy ASA for 40$…. After the game has been out for 10 years then idk what to tell you personally for myself 40$ is just a drop in the bucket and at least they aren’t charging 70$ like other game companies are for new games.

As someone who is playing ASA, I'm enjoying it far more than ASE. They fixed a lot of BS pvp tactics and the DLC's (so far) are totally optional. They've stuck to all the maps being free (so far) and added the DLC as an opportunity for them to get more funding. You do understand that these games are expensive as shit to make, right? Do you even enjoy video games? $40 is nothing for hundreds of hours of playtime. You spend more than that going on a date for 2-3 hours..... Well... maybe YOU don't go on any dates. lol.

They can't pull the plug on ASA. Ark II is not going to be a game that the current Ark community will gravetate to. The gameplay, at least from what they have described to us, is too different, to the point of it being a totally different genre. They need the Ark players from ASE and ASA to remain in business. Ark II will not be a long-term money maker.

if they think they can afford to send $2 Mil per month, that means they believe they will sell more than that in DLC. That means they need to keep putting out new content.
Let's see if they sink it instead.
I haven't played Ark in a couple of years. What are they doing this year? Slowly releasing official versions of modder created content? Which all will be rendered useless once Ark 2 launches? This has always been a messy game to keep up with.
It's entirely possible to have billions of revenue and yet close the year with a loss. Remember, income - spendings = profit or loss. In many startups and digital companies the budgets dedicated to advertising is huge, making out easly 20% af all spendings, in some cases even as much as 50%. 1.6 million p.a. for advertising is not much compared to their total spendings. All the loans, licences etc gonna eat up the income and they probably can't afford to pump more money into advertising. I'd love to understand the loss/liability side of their operations more, but I guess it's not that interesting for Ark as a game and us as players. (BTW I'm not a native speaker so pardon if I'm not using the correct financial terminology.)

And let's be honest a lot of those players that are grumbling and remaining with the first version over the second is because they don't like to play by the rules anyway. Yes there are major issues to Grumble about like proprietary servers and paying too much for something that you've already invested into before. But let's face it Ark has already turned into something far beyond what the average player ever gets to see and they know it. They just gotten used to being able to do what they want on their piece of the playground.

ASA was always a remaster but if you look at island, they added a lot, scorched they added an insane amount of new details and places. 🤷🏼♂️

They're not going to be shutting down ASA. There is plenty of criticism to go around about Wild Card & Snail Games but they have already said ASA was released for players that love the original Ark b/c Ark 2 is going to be a different style of gameplay
