I still have an Asus ROG laptop from like 2010. Used to edit videos on it, and at one point used it as the controller for a vinyl sign cutter. I am really enjoying how a lot of companies are going above and beyond for you guys and giving special treatment. I am really enjoying the coverage you are doing on a lot of the stuff at CES. It is such a breathe of fresh air away from the stale, awkward videos a lot of news broadcasters are doing. You all seem genuinely interested in all of this, and Asus knows that. Samsung know that, Cooler Master know that. And everyone else you have covered that have allowed you to be yourself, get up close and personal, tear down equipment and be 100% honest about all of it. I would say keep doing what you are doing, but I know you are not going to see this comment. So I will just prey that the whole team has always has a cold side of their pillow on warm nights and a great year.
One big improvement is the 0db ambient mode across all models. Due to the large heatsink, the fan won't even turn on doing light tasks. My 2202 flow x16 is dead quiet🤫 (only except gaming)
Always nice to see Alex equally excited and critical of a product. Wish Asus allowed him to open a few more laptops to see the differences, I'm a bit confused about the vapor chamber vs heat pipes thing... Props to Linus for directing and producing the video while being on a completely different country 👏👏👏
I'm eagerly awaiting the performance results for the "4090" G14. It will no doubt be absolutely insanely priced and it'll be interesting to see how the thermals do, considering the 2022 G14 (although max TDP of 105w) really doesn't like being above 80w. It sucks that it won't be AMD anymore, but we'll see how it plays out.

ASUS continues to impress me with their performance for size over other brands. I have the 2022 G14. The amount of power in what is basically a 13" laptop chassis is insane.
I've been using a Asus ROG GL702-VM (1060/i5-6300) for the last 5 years and have just retired it for an Acer Helios with the 3070 and the i9 because it had a better price to performance ratio than the closest Asus. My son has been using a TUF for the last year though, with a 2060 and i7 in it, and he loves it. They (Asus) do a great line of laptops but Acer were doing some great January deals with high end spec when I bought mine, I tend to go with best bang for buck as opposed to being a fanboy of any particular brand!!
Years ago when Liquid Ultra was the only name in the game and only lasted about 4-6 months before it started hardening on a 24/7 rig i realized it's the areas that are exposed to oxygen that harden first. So when it came to my laptop i simply put high temp RTV silicone gasket maker around the CPU die and it's been about 8+ years, my friend still has that laptop that she uses all the time. Granted it's "just" a 25w TDP cpu, still I put it a thin tall bead using a small straw to apply it about 5mm from the die, put it together and let it cure for just an hour and started using it. Took it apart after about 2 years and it was still all liquid, other than stains on the copper that actually wiped off. Compared to the bunch of times i've had to take a razer to the die and sand it off the heat sink (after taking as much off with a razer as i could)
I got a Strix g512 about a year and a half ago now and this thing has been the best laptop I've ever owned and I've owned a lot over the years. You genuinely can't go wrong with ASUS laptops imo, they give great bang for your buck and genuinely allow some of the best upgrade options of any laptop, for example, mine shipped with a measly 500GB nvme SSD and since then I've equipped with an additional x2 2TB nvme SSD. Can also confirm the liquid metal cooling in these things is legit!
1. Different power target for a mobile 4090, likely 100s of watts less. 2. Expense, power consumption, and Windows historically has not handled HDR very well, do not know if it is the same situation today.
I wish they would start making laptops with no concern for being able to take them on a plane and cranking the battery size. Or maybe sell and add on that can clip to the underside that is chock full of battery?
That mini-led diplay with 1100nits got me drooling. I got a 600nit HDR screen and i am impressed with that. Cant imagine another 500nits on the laptop!
Very disappointed with Asus this year. Apart from the compelling ROG Zephyrus G14 & Flow x13, it looks like Asus just gave AMD the 🖕 for no good reason. I prefer AMD's better battery life and to see such few options this year makes me very mad.
Apparently they do have a reason. AMD can't make enough chips to meet demand. Remember how last gen almost all AMD laptops were impossible to find. Even though amd cpus are the overall better choice, if they can't keep up with demand for several models it's better if all the oems have 1 or 2 models they can actually supply while AMD slowly ramps up supply and trickle out new designs.
Oh wow, I barely just got a 2020 legion 5 with a 2060m and the 40 series is already out. Things move so darn quick these days! Tbh I’m happy with my legion 5 and it will do me proud for many years, I think. The grass is not always greener…
Kinda dissapointed that you guys treat the 4090 in Laptops like the Desktop version. It's not close, not only because of the TDP but because of cut down ram and CUDA cores. It's closer to a 4080 in power-management mode, which while still impressive, 4090 sets wrong expectations and should be called out
The Flow X13 looks amazing - not because of the 4070 in it, but because it has a 7000HS processor, meaning there will probably be a model with GTX 1650 level graphics performance *without* dedicated graphics
Something indicating that these CES videos are CES videos in the thumbnail or title would be nice. You know, like a thumbnail and title are supposed to tell you what the video is about.
as someone who just bought the 2022 version of the flow x13 for black friday, i'm honestly kind of tempted with the upgrades in the 2023 version just 2 months later... it all comes down to the price though...
Picked up a 2022 g14 for about $1000 open box. Been really good. Only 3.5 lbs and can get 8 hrs of battery from doing normal stuff. But is pretty dang good for gaming just about anything with rt off. Great overall laptop for anyone. 2023 probably better on the rt side
I've been looking into laptops recently and though I wasn't planning on getting a gaming laptop, I'm really considering picking one of these up. I love that gaming laptops nowadays actually have slim profiles. Before I built my first gaming PC (8 years ago) I was using a Toshiba Satellite that was like 10 lb and 2-3 inches thick. I basically never took it anywhere because it was so massive. I need a laptop for work so I've been looking at the Windows equivalents of the MacBook Air but considering this is just MacBook Pro sized and extremely powerful, I'm tempted to go all out lol
Please, PLEASE, don't buy any of these gaming laptop monstrosities for work. Just get a M1/M2 equipped MacBook and you'll thank me. If you haven't tried Apple's new machines yet, just know that it's incredibly liberating to get 1-1.5 days of battery life while working 8 hours a day, all that at full performance without cord and completely silent. All this, IMO, is infinite times more valuable than whatever specs on paper these gaming laptops have (which you can't even run at full speed unless you are plugged in all the time).
@@GlotttisIf you're doing more office based work, sure, but MacBooks are terrible for most engineering workflows, so if that's what they're dealing with, Windows is still the way to go.
Imagine how much power they could get if they did a watercooling solution like that guy did for the PS5 "slim" (3 copper sheets, one with the cpu block soldered in (plus whatever else for a laptop, gpu block, vram, etc), a second one with the flow paths cut out, then a third one to put on top and close the loop, so there's no need for any tubing/fittings inside, the copper itself contains the liquid - with quick disconnect fittings externally alongside the power cable, then the power supply brick also has the radiator in with it)
After owning the 2021 Asus G14, I don't think anyone else comes even close to Asus with the form factor and the horsepower. Glad to see it get even better this year.
I knew it. They're using positive pressure to cool the middle of the rear finstack. Hopefully the foam holds and there isn't anywhere else for the pressure to leak.
One thing I like about ASUS notebooks is their keyboard layout: since I had a Sony Vaio, I gut used to the additonal row of function keys like Home, End, PgUp, PgDown on the right side. I use it a lot to navigate through code and really miss it if its not their. Unfortunatly, no other manufacturer picked that up.
Video: "check out this amazing monitor!" Me (watching on a 60hz, 720p dell monitor with no contrast at all): "wow... pretty. I can really see the difference.
LMAO no ROG keystone support on the new strix. I have one with the stupid keystone cutout (using it right now), and I knew it was a gimmick. Otherwise, love how chill the Asus reps and folks are.

It's 4090 in name only, the only generation where laptops GPUs were anywhere near their desktop counterparts was 10 series.
I wish they would start making laptops with no concern for being able to take them on a plane and cranking the battery size.
Or maybe sell and add on that can clip to the underside that is chock full of battery?
Asus never cease to amaze me
"Love to see it" - Alex's catch phrase :D
I just really love to watch Alex exciting about the new stuff lol
That mini-led diplay with 1100nits got me drooling. I got a 600nit HDR screen and i am impressed with that. Cant imagine another 500nits on the laptop!
Make separate physical buttons for the mouse clicks.
It works so much better for click and drag.
sadly that is gone, and hell i despise moving the mouse with the click button, makes touchpads borderline unusable for me
Laptops are getting pretty good these days, like wow technology is really improving.
The scar 17 with a 3080Ti cost $4000 here. Can't wait to see the price tag on the scar 18 with a 4090.
my favorite thing about 16:10 is that the trackpad tends to be larger because u haave more room
The touchpad/illuminated numpad is quite the innovation! Unfortunately I need it near the arrow keys....I refuse to WASD!
I want to see Linus go to one of these and drop everything to see the reps reactions
Mixing the numpad with the trackpad is genius and I love it.
I love hearing stuff about Asus cooling especially when the laptop will idle at 80C as every other ones including their "liquid metal" laptops
00:50 that moment a laptop GPU consumes more power than your whole desktop gaming PC 🗿
hope they will have a vivobook pro refresh too in silver color. thats their best product. looks elegant, awesome display, and dead silent
The flow and zeph series is what I'm looking forward to
as someone who owns a g17 seeing these new versions is absolutely stunning im really proud of asus and the shit theyre doin
2:05 That's what she said!
as someone who just bought the 2022 version of the flow x13 for black friday, i'm honestly kind of tempted with the upgrades in the 2023 version just 2 months later...
it all comes down to the price though...
I have a gen 1 G14, and I absolutely love it. The thought of one with a 4090 is friggin wicked sick!! Good job Asus!!
Still love my Strix from 2019 and will probably jump to another Asus when I am ready to upgrade. 😎
They make these yearly improvements to the flow absolutely huge (besides the 2022)
I've been looking into laptops recently and though I wasn't planning on getting a gaming laptop, I'm really considering picking one of these up.
Why are you so late with CES coverage?
Imagine how much power they could get if they did a watercooling solution like that guy did for the PS5 "slim" (3 copper sheets, one with the cpu block soldered in (plus whatever else for a laptop, gpu block, vram, etc), a second one with the flow paths cut out, then a third one to put on top and close the loop, so there's no need for any tubing/fittings inside, the copper itself contains the liquid - with quick disconnect fittings externally alongside the power cable, then the power supply brick also has the radiator in with it)
tldr: HEATSINKS!!! -Alex
After owning the 2021 Asus G14, I don't think anyone else comes even close to Asus with the form factor and the horsepower. Glad to see it get even better this year.
WHY IS HE NOT USING A LTT SCREWDRIVER?!?!
I knew it. They're using positive pressure to cool the middle of the rear finstack. Hopefully the foam holds and there isn't anywhere else for the pressure to leak.
Is that Gary just hanging out in the background? That's cool he got to go back to see ASUS people!
Have an ASUS laptop thats like 10 years old now. It STILL works well and is physically solid.
I love this company.
Video: "check out this amazing monitor!"
Me (watching on a 60hz, 720p dell monitor with no contrast at all): "wow... pretty. I can really see the difference.
7:52 moves awards lol
LMAO no ROG keystone support on the new strix. I have one with the stupid keystone cutout (using it right now), and I knew it was a gimmick.
Otherwise, love how chill the Asus reps and folks are.
