Very good craftsmanship, but technically a hazard now as heating parts and squirting cold oil onto them causes superficial cracks and destroys the hardness and temper.
Good job, though it's a pity you didn't look for original missing parts. A huge quantity of Gras rifles have been made, so they are still quite easy to find and not so expensive. Find an original stock is much harder, though. You should try to find these parts, your rifle is worth it, as it's a very rare non modified one. Most of Gras rifles have been slightly altered in 1880, not yours, you're a lucky guy !
Taken'er down to the nitty gritty find piece's. Just the kind of video's that i like to watch. Not only that. There isn't any talking. That alone make's it more viewing in My Eye's. By heating everything up you destroyed the temper on the items. Never hear up a bolt assembly especially the firing pin and the spring they are now useless unkess you retemper them, same for the rrar sight spring. This is what you get when you let someone with no knowledge or skills work on firearms. Its dangerous to say the least.
I think you did a great job on your 1874. I have one very similar it's a 1878,with a clip.I can't read the name on the gun.did Gras make any with this stamp on it?
It is yours . Never safe to fire and seized beyond all but scrap value and you. Only you, saw a hidden beauty that your 2 hands pulled from the trash heap of history. thanks for your vision.
OMG!!! What are you guys in the comments smoke?? Give us some to see your enlightment!!! This guy took a non rare, (2,5 million made) rusted pitted and unsafe to shoot in any way ex firearm remain, and gave it back some of its former glory!! If you don't have something good to say, say nothing at all, and go find your own gras to shoot with 11mm ammo at 20$ each pew. If you can find ammo for it!!! Good work friend! Thanx for the video.

Not Restoration. Electrolysis REMOVES metal that has oxidized. You should have boiled it instead. Heating and grinding and slapping a coat of cold blueing is incorrect for resto. Stock looks nice. Good wall hanger

I absolutely CRINGED when I saw that! Stunned, completely stunned.
Amigo admiro tu paciencia para trabajar en tu oficio
Это не реставрация-это издевательство над раритетом.
Impressive use of multiple skills to fabricate all the parts needed 👍
Beautiful restoration I love the stock🎉🎉🎉
Thank you very much...
BEAUTIFUL... You sir are an Artists...
Thanks my friend..
Чем то похожа на берданку, у моего прапрадеда была берданка ещё со службы в царской императорской армии.

A VERY impressive restoration. The creation of the hand built stock and metal furniture, really does you credit Sir. Thank you for sharing.
👍
Awesome work !!! Congratulations !!!
But does it shoot ?
You can find this rifle in Wikipedia. The are beautiful photos of the rifle there.
It is Berdan rifle? Well done 👍
Teve que recuperar quase toda a arma,.valeu o trabalho.

Thanks a lot..
100% agree, I'm awaiting their videos of how they think it should be done. I fear it may be a while...
I am afraid someone will do some of those techniques and then FIRE the gun. Using a torch to disassemble the bolt is what got me.
French Chatellerault Model 1874/80 Gras Bolt Action Rifle - Rifle, bolt action.
You have so many tools and gadgets, but damn, why don't you have a metal lathe?!😅
There is an old saying; "Don't go against the grain"..
If the bore is good wonderful
If not great Wall hanger
amazing 👍👍👍👍👍
Magic
ma i guanti non si usano?
Butt of that rifle is way too thick. Not rounded enough. Not tapered enough. Way too bulky
Полностью с вами согласен,приклад изготовлен по принципу К-98, а надо было сделать как у Мосинки ,и смотрелось бы намного лучше.
Why ?
lets hear and see it go boom
👍👍👍 bravo....complimenti
grazie amico..
Now it became an ornamental rifle, personally with so much delay I would never use it, it turned out to be dangerous, a nice ornament, just that👍
I agree with you my friend...
👏👏👏👏👏
GÖZƏL BİR İŞ USTA🙂👍
What the language is this?? 😮
This one you didn't shoot ??
I think you’re not restoring it, you’re destroying it….
Total amateur hack.
I think it is good for decoration purpose only. Never for firing again!

Better than being a pile of seized rust from only he knows where.
@@tailsdblack463 ultrasound and rust remover soak is restoration. A grinder is vandalism. This guy's a complete amateur.

If your not going to show it shoots then it was a complete waste of time.
Leaving the technical aspects aside the video was 40 minutes too long.
