Cardiff to Swansea a trip on the South Wales mainline.

- This journey was from 4 years ago prior to electrification at Cardiff. We depart Cardiff and run down the Mainline to Swansea via Bridgend, Port Talbot and Neath, before crossing Landore viaduct and into Swansea station. Please see the channel description as to the reason behind the silent film.

Many Thanks. I use to study in Swansea University and use to travel from Cardiff to Swansea at times. Bring back lot of memories. The station looks totally different now. I studied ages ago though..
Nice to see a couple of GW HSTs; I would never have thought I could express enthusiasm for an oilcan, but they had so much more character than the latest poor quality offerings.

Wish that Network Rail could of electrified to Swansea but the electrification only ends at Cardiff Central.

People this site wouldn't let me complete my comment before. So. In Central Trains days you would have seen the Brickyard Sidings on the right where we reversed. All pulled up now.
Interesting footage! It’s a shame you did not mention the Hitachi depot at Maliphant, towards the end. After all, it’s the only electrified bit, for the time being!
not electrified, was caped when they decided not to electrify to swansea, after having new signals and masts done for it

Just to say, at 34:35 this train passes through a railway station and no caption appears - is this railway station Baglan?
It certainly is and I missed that. I know why I missed it also. It is right on the edge of a page on my railway track diagram.

Too short for an HST, not stopping often enough to be the Swansea-Cardiff pacer, and the Swansea-Shrewsbury service goes Heart of Wales line...
