      Recently built a Ryzen 5500 build with GTX1070. My old i5 3470 will be re-purposed as a standalone Midi Keyboard and music beats clip launcher PC for fun. Just got to tidy up my room, get another desk and glue an old case together lol.

    Awesome video! Video quality is great, nice upgrade!
    As for the PC, it's pretty amazing what you can build for barely any money! I had a lot of "fun" finding the right workstation for my personal server needs... The number of choices for off lease workstations is daunting when you look on good ol' eBay.
    Again, great video! Looking forward to the next one!

    Hey, here in Brazil there's been a big hype around the Xeon E5 series that are being sold by Chinese manufacturers with desktop mobos adapted to the LGA-2011/2011-3 sockets, you can find some combos for less than 150 dollars that come with some pretty decent looking CPUs (specially if you find one that is overclockable, like the Xeon E5 1650 V3). I was wondering if you'd be interested in testing those out and maybe showing this market for budget users from around the world (or maybe even debunk the claim that the Xeon can be equal to i5/i7/i9 CPUs on gaming performance). Thanks in advance and love your videos.

    Another great video. I love creators talking about the used hardware niche even if the value is dubious in light of the speed of current improvements in PC hardware. You've done gaming PCs, servers, and NAS, but I'd like to see something that has piqued my interest as of late. How about making a build for use as a volunteered/distributed computing system like for folding@home or BOINC? It's a lot more niche since it's unappealing to be wasting power on projects that are hard to see the results of but I think it's a very unexplored topic on youtube.
    Even though old hardware runs a lot less efficiently powerwise (125W xeons compared to 65W Ryzens), it could be very possible to optimize a used system distributed computing. GPUs tend to outpace CPUs in most of these tasks, so pairing a relatively weak low power CPU just to host the system with power efficient GPUs would probably be the goal. Options I've checked out using F@H's power efficiency list would probably be the GTX1650 and 1050 alongside the ti's for the most obtainable power efficient cards, whereas the GT 1030 and NVS 300/310 are probably best for extremely low power systems. Checking out the power usage and software setup in Windows vs Linux is something I'd really like to see, since I'm also thinking of trying this out myself.

    A lot of these workstations get on the market after 3-5 years when they are introduced when the machines sold to enterprise customers come off warranty and that’s when the prices on these specific models on eBay and local listings become attractive- and a lot of the times the “real” cost for a gaming conversion is lower if it comes with a workstation GPU (like your k1200) that can be sold.
    I have even gotten Dell Precision 5810 and the sold the GPU (Quadro M4000) to cover the entire purchase price. It was a lucky find on a local deal, though

    • @HardwareHaven
      @HardwareHaven  2 роки тому +1

      Local lucky deals are the best haha!

    • @DavidLee-cr4xv
      @DavidLee-cr4xv 2 роки тому +2

      It is easier to find them near a big city- with lots of companies who have fleets of Dell/Lenovo/Hp computers.
      My favorite at the moment are the Dell Precision 5810 and, if you can find them at a good price 5820. These tend to have good PSUs (80-plus gold 425, 685 and 950w) and inexpensive HEDT-Equivalent CPU options.

    Theres a simple workaround to get msi afterburner to work with CSGO for any future benchmarks:
    1.Go to your steam library and right click on CSGO and go to PROPERTIES
    2. In the general tab, you should see an input box labelled LAUNCH OPTIONS
    3.Populate the box with "-allow_third_party_software"
    That will allow rivatuner to work properly in game, but keep in mind this lowers your trust factor a bit, so if you like competitive play, remember to get rid of the launch option when not benchmarking

    LTT just did a video on the Z420 system not long ago, the only game I would say should be added to your benchmarks is red dead 2, that game can really hit the CPU and GPU and great video been binge watching your channel to catch up and can say this is the 1st new upload i have watched.

      @HardwareHaven  2 роки тому

      I’m not sure if you’re saying they’re the same, but the LTT video is the 420, and I showed two 240s. I think the 420 is Ivy Bridge CPUSs which is how they got it for cheaper.

    If anyone is trying to do this now, I've seen several systems with these Xeon and 6th or 7th gen Core CPUs in the $100-125 range. You can also find them barebones so you can go ahead and get a 7th gen i7, but it's usually a better deal to spend more on a system with a 6th gen i5 or i7, then sell that CPU to make back most of the cost of buying an i7-7700

    grab a tesla P4 for around $100 (a 1080 with a 75w tdp and no video outputs. Either use windows to choose which video card to use and run local or use Parsec to stream). ebay is flooding with them at the moment. You will need to figure out cooling, but even a 40mm noctua and a 3dprinted or cardboard shroud easily handles the heat load.
    bonus - since this is a tesla, you can carve it up into multiple video cards and have multiple gamers - each with their own dedicated resources)

    If you want to avoid any adapters, you can simply buy an ATX12VO power supply. This is a non-proprietary standard, so you can buy it from some 3rd party manufacturers.

    • @HardwareHaven

    I wanted a small computer to play indie games and to stream from my main gaming computer in my living room, I got an old HP Compaq 6200 with a i5 2400 for free at work (we have like 15 of those after selling over 20, they don't care if I take one), I bought a 20$ Radeon R5 430 on eBay and I put an old 128GB SSD I had (but a brand new one cost like 15$ right now). All in all, I paid around 40$ for something that can play quite a bit of games, going with older office machine is definitely the way to go, we're actually selling our older 7th Gen i5 machines with 8GB of RAM and 1TB HDD for like 175$ because they're literally useless for us right now.

    • @MrCed122
      @MrCed122 2 роки тому +1

      @@HardwareHaven To be fair, pretty poor, but I think it has more to do with the fact that my gaming computer is running Linux and Steam Remote Play seems to have a lot of problems with that, I have the same problem with an 8th Gen i7 that should be plenty fast enough to decode a local 1080p stream. Moonlight runs a lot better, it's just kinda annoying to set up and the GUI isn't great.

I live in Hawaii, so shipping a computer is typically not free for me except on amazon prime or ali, and as I understand it international viewers can't access the same ebay/amazon deals and have to resort to ali.
