Bach composed a total of 6 organ sonatas. This masterpiece is the 2nd movement of the 4th sonata.
While the atmosphere of the original organ piece is rather calm, idyllic, and meditative, Ólafsson's sublime and avant-gardely bold arrangement makes the piece sound symphonic, cosmic, and fateful. Listening to this piece, you can feel as if you are contemplating the process of building a huge musical castle by stacking the melodies one by one elaborately and firmly.
I dare say that Ólafsson's arrangement transcended Stradal's. Currently, this is Kimschube's favorite piece (before that, I liked the Goldberg Variations best), and I enjoy listening to it several times a day. I can confidently say that my life became happier after meeting this piece. To express my gratitude to Ólafsson, I boldly uploaded this much lacking performance. 바흐는 오르간 소나타를 총 6곡 작곡했습니다. 이 걸작은 그 중 4번째 소나타의 2악장입니다.
원곡의 분위기는 다소 차분하고 목가적이며 명상적인데, 올라프손의 숭고하며 전위적이라고 할 수 있을 정도로 과감한 편곡은 이 곡을 교향악적이고 우주적이며 운명적으로까지 들리게 합니다. 이 곡을 듣고 있노라면, 정교하고 견고하게 선율을 한 층씩 쌓아올려 거대한 음악적 성곽을 축조하는 과정을 관조하는 듯한 기분을 느낄 수 있습니다.
감히 말씀드리지만, 올라프손의 편곡은 스트라달의 편곡을 초월했다고 할 수 있습니다. 현재 김슈베가 가장 좋아하는 곡이며, (그 전에는 골드베르크 변주곡을 가장 좋아했습니다.) 하루에도 몇 번씩 즐겨 듣고 있습니다. 이 곡을 만나서 제 인생이 더욱 행복해졌다고 자신있게 말할 수 있습니다. 올라프손에게 감사함을 표현하고자 많이 부족한 연주를 과감하게 업로드하게 되었습니다. 고맙습니다, 비킹구르 올라프손!

I can see your inspiration from Olafsson's interpretation, but your overall pacing of dynamics and which sections you choose to emphasize is unique. Very nice job on the trills!!!!! I'm still trying to figure out how in the world I'm going to practice my technique for that part. Thank you for this refreshing interpretation. I want to make this part of my eternal repertoire. There's so much feeling in it that may take years to explore.

I already wrote it down in the information section, but I love this song the most and have been practicing it with a lot of affection. I've probably listened Ólafsson's play thousands of times. I've listened all the live performances of Ólafsson available on UA-cam, but Bach Album's was the best. (WPD2022 was the next best. I'll put the link on the bottom row.)
I have listened many performances by other professional pianists, but honestly, they were incomparably immature compared to Ólafsson's. Ólafsson's interpretation was considered close to perfection, and I started practicing using it as a kind of 'Bible'.
This video is just the beginning of the process, and I will continue to refine it for the rest of my life. I salute Ólafsson for uncovering this great masterpiece, and I'm glad that you're going to take this journey. I think it's a great masterpiece indeed. @@kimschube The WPD2022 performance was spectacular, and there are some parts of it I liked more than the performance in the Bach album. I wish that Olaffson would include some of the beautiful ornamentation typically played by many on the organ. Some combination of the 3 performances is how I'd like to interpret and perform this piece.
Personally, I think Ólafsson had tried various ornamentaion. I think the result is the interpretation of Bach's album. There are also parts that I feel sorry for while listening to various pianists' renditions, so when I play, I add a little bit of my interpretation. This is why I keep practicing the piano despite my lack of skills. When I start playing, I think that music piece becomes a part of me. Thank you for the sweet comment again!! 😊

즐겁게 들어주셔서 감사합니다! 올라프손이 골드베르크에는 앵콜을 치지 않더라구요. 그 이유로 올라프손은 골드베르크를 일종의 태양계에 빗대는데요, 아리아(태양)을 중심으로 30개의 행성으로 구성되어 있는데 자신이 앵콜을 하는 것은 31번째 행성을 추가하는 격이 되어 그럴 수 없다고 합니다. 골드베르크의 완결무결성을 깨뜨리기 싫다는 강력한 의지 표명인 것 같습니다. 즐거운 관람 되시기 바랍니다!!! 큰 아이에게도 올라프손의 골드베르크는 인상적인 경험이 되리라 확신합니다. 👌

들어주셔서 감사합니다! 야마하 P-115라는 모델입니다. 지금은 음원이 더 업그레이드 되어 P-225라는 모델로 출시되고 있습니다. 저도 P-225를 아직 쳐보지는 못해서 확실히 말씀드릴 수는 없지만, 전문가나 유저들 평에 의하면 P-115보다 확연히 좋아졌다고 합니다. 기회되면 한번 경험해보시기 바랍니다!

Any tips for someone that might begin with this piece ? (e.g. other Bach pieces that might prepare you for this)
If you are a beginner, practice breaking down to the smallest unit. If you practice with the mindset that you will conquer only one or two bars a day without being greedy, you will eventually be able to play the entire bar.
And listen to the pianist's performance a lot while watching the score. As you listen to the performance, take a good look at how the pianist handles each part of the score.
And practicing another song first to prepare for this is inefficient and will make you feel less motivated. If you want to play this piece, just practice this piece hard. No matter how difficult the piece is, it's possible playing one or half bar a day, right? That's how you can challenge yourself to a difficult piece.

もしStraselの仕事がなければ、Ólafssonの美しい演奏もなかった可能性が高い。
なので、編曲者の名前にÓlafssonを連ねることは構わないでしょうが、Stradalは外さずに表示すべきというのが私の考えです。
ちなみに、もしÓlafssonにこの問題について考えを尋ねたら、Ólafssonは私の意見に賛成するのではないでしょうか。
なぜなら、Ólafssonは、Bachは当然として、Stradalをもリスペクトしていると思うからです。
