I am trying to talk less because the situation ends up being bad in either of these 2 ways:
    1. I talk longer than necessary and can visually see the attention of the listener drifting off
    2. People are indeed listening but I begin to say nonsensical things which ends up making me look a ditsy, cute fool.
When I get home is when I begin to analyse their reactions and I realise they were entertained the way you are entertained when a 5 year old rambles on about crazy things that children do.

I TALK TOO MUCH! Thank you for addressing this! But the problem is I get encouraged by people being so interested and they sit like an audience because I'm expressive -- but I don't want to be the one doing that! I want to be in a conversation equally with others -- I don't like how I take over and become an 'entertainer'.

I just wanted to mention something: sometimes if a person is asking too many questions, and is not giving you a chance to answer, you kinda have to talk more to avoid being bombarded with their queries. So in this case talking more, will actually help you slow the pace of the questions being thrown at you. I.e: someone sees you and they are like, how are you? how is ur family? what have you been up to? you sister is she traveling, with whom? where? when? are you still working? where? how is it?! How much is ur salary? How is ur sister? LOL I really don't get offended by people like this, it's just who they are, so I find that speaking slower and taking my time (purposely!) to think about the answer, puts me in control of the pace convo, till gradually that person gets bored listening to my long digressing sentences and is less eager for answers, and decides to move to her next prey. Yikes!

I can’t stop talking! I have seriously considered damaging my own vocal chords so that I can finally shut up! I talked to my workout partner the entire time during a 45 minute session. I can talk for the entire 5 hours it takes me to run a marathon. I’ve only lost half my voice once, my entire life. No concert, no argument, no amount of yelling has taken me down. When I say I only lost half my voice I am referring to this one time senior year when I got a horrible cough, really bad. On top of that I smoked cigarettes and weed. I could start off a sentence strong but my voice would run out in about 30 seconds.

1.Give them what they deserve. If they worship arrogant people, think that any word comes of your mouth,is worth 1 milion dollars.
      Dont sell ur self cheap.
2.As any skill u want to improve,is like martial arts.Or like building a house,u cant over night, but slowly one step daily,u finally get to have it.

Honestly I agree with you. But the reason that I want to work on this is not to talk or express myself less but do to try to only express myself and talk in more detail to the people who deserve it and will appreciate it. Co-workers for example complain I talk too much but my friends say they like that I talk a lot and am so detailed... So you know what that tells me, my coworkers don't deserve to know every detail because it just makes me come off as annoying to them and they don't actually care about the effort I'm putting into the conversation.

My friends are loud and big talkers. When we get together I feel lonely. They are so in talking and talking about themselves they forget to even ask how are you and they aren't able to listen just for sec. And they get upset when I won't go out to meet with them. Better alone than spending time with someone who like to listen only to his voice. People who talk to much should just stop and learn basic about reaspect for others.

people who speak too much tend to lose their value in society it's like people tend to give them lesser attention than they should. I have realized it myself with people whom I talk too much they tend to perceive me like a dumb and with whom I talk very less called me intelligent. I wonder because I remained the same but the difference was in my conduct. since I have realized this I try to keep shut but it's very tuff especially in times when I am very happy I tend to overreact and talk talk and talk. that at that time i forget everything I thought for...!!!

The fact that so many people in the comments section are opening up about them talking too much means that at some point they've been ridiculed for it. And mostly by the people they didn't expect it from. I empathize with that. Maybe this video's tips will help. Maybe.

Im bad at mingling and often appear rude. Sometimes , I force myself to act like a normal person, start talking to new people and end up talking too much. I have a feeling that in that process, I am even making the other person uncomfortable.

To all the "talkative" people - I'll tell you something the people you're yapping away at are too polite (or diplomatic) to say.
    1. They're feeling bored, unhappy and more and more drained. But you knew that already (at some level).
    2. The reason why it's so easy for you to maintain the monopoly (i've come to realize that many of you rather pride yourself on that!), is because the *boorish* conversational egotism that you've revealed, is not just tedious to _listen to_ , but also makes you feel uninspiring and pointless to _talk to_ . Because they instinctively feel that the thing they need emotionally in conversation - the reciprocal human connection, the socially attuned back-and-forth - is beyond what boors are capable of, so what's the point.

Its a plague in my life since I was a toddler...in any language I speak. Tried many things...therapy blamed it on ADD but meds did nth to it. Anyways...after decades did improve somewhat but it feels like a true addiction
I am aware, I hate it (including while I am doing it), I am ashamed of it at the time and way after, I regreat it.
Attention seaker? Maybe but I dont like to be the talk of town, to be in pictures, to show off (but all the talking ends there and makes me the target I hate to be)
No the talking is not about bringing people down, judging...People pleaser maybe? Want to be liked or make them feel interesting? Maybe...but after a while its the opposite right?
    Anxiety? Sure! Impulsivity? Sure.
For some minutes I manage to not do it...start again, stop a little...but to control it that bit requires full energy, makes me look wierder (to avoid this I keep a nice face but have to mentally repeat "dont speal dont speak dont speak"...any distraction and its almost impossible to control again)
People do respond and engage, listen, meaning I am not ramblening nonsense
    Not the point though....
I go on this wako talking to strangers anywhere....do it when I am happy, sad, buzy or not, on a schedule or not.
Here I am "talking" none stop again....this time I wont delete cause its the theme of the vid....excuse? Probably, but I will try the vid suggestion again.
My family insists I do this non stop talking since the age of 3, cant comment as I have zero childhood memory.
Conclusion? Probably just too much blablabla...as always, so might just plain stupidity: if smth I do causes me so much pain, shame, losses, etc though seems I have learned zero from it....stupidity it is.

I've the same struggles, try saying what u wanna say in your head instead of telling ppl...I do that and it works.. like when u see your mother and wanna tell her something, instead say it in your head. And u won't feel the need to tell her anything ..or when u wanna go and tell someone something say it to yourself ..make yourself your own company ...I hope this helps...

I am not sure if this helps but if your friend talks too much (you as well possibly) --- Start cooking! Or cleaning! Or painting! So you can still be together. And you get something done. Later on the person might say more interesting things, and you can join the conversation. You can go back and forth from these two, if it gets boring again. Then suggest your friend to do the same if you talk too much. And if you are done cooking you can have dinner together.
