got the same pump now for 5 years. be sure to drain the water for winter storage. freeze will destroy it. put a connector in the wiring between the tractor and the baler. locate the connection at the hitch point on the baler. makes it handy for disconnect. GREAT job on making it yourself....

Soybean Farmer the hay preserve is an acid that won't usually freeze, but I think I will still take it off for the winter and put it inside.

The worst part about having that sensor mounted that far back is by the time it registers as to high if moisture, you've got a full bale already made of untreated hay! But at least you won't be guessing what the moisture is!

larsonvalleyfarm yea that's an issue for sure. If I bale around the edges of fields of under trees I just flip it on. For the most part this year I didn't bale anything higher than 20%.

Got a question I’m building me one of these for less than 20% what tips are you running yellow, blue, or green an at what psi?

I think they are the yellow tips. I went to the dealership and asked for the same nozzles they use in the actual kits. As far as the psi, I haven’t used it yet really. I ran into customers that don’t want it put on

GREAT video. I am probably going to do the same (or similar thing) to my old baler. A couple of questions: Where are you buying the acid (assuming it's propionic acid?). Also, have you calculated how much $$$ it adds to a bale? I am trying to do the math, but have conflicting results based on the cost of the acid and application requirements.

Yesterday Farm I really haven't figured out cost. The quote I got was $.88/lb. why they sell it by the pound I don't know. I have a video coming that I have it finished. Will try to get posted. I wasn't going to use it unless I had too. So I was looking at necessity over cost to prevent mold in the barn.

What is in a hay preservative? Never used it before.

Jake Ziegler its is a type of acid for hay that is between 16%-22% moisture. It prevents it from heating and keeps mold from growing. It's pretty popular in the northeast. If you have hay laying and it's just not quite dry and there's rain on the way, the preserve allows you to get it baled and put away without any worries about mold or hay combustion

PA Farms that's a good tool to have in the box.

Jake Ziegler yea some guys just flip the switch and put it on everything. The stuff sells for .88/lb so that's why I installed the moisture sensor. Now I can watch the monitor and if it goes over 16% I can flip the switch. In a year the sensor should pay for itself in preserve savings.
