I love my Komodo. I have mine paired with the Okuma PCH Custom rod. Killer set up bro! Might put it on the SCTi this weekend see if the yellows want to play. I currently have that Lexa on the SCTi thanks to your review on the rod....appreciate the request to do a review on it. They do have a Komodo 471 which is the 7.1 gear ratio. Mine is the 463 and I like that little extra torque when your fighting a fish. I flyline with my Komodo and jig with the lexa 7.1 Can't go wrong with either imo
REELDEALJOJO Orozco yeah I definitely would’ve gotten the 471 if I were offered it. But my buddy offered me this one for a crazy price that I couldn’t pass up lol
I'm looking into buying my first saltwater casting setup, probably go with the lexa! Been hitting up more charters lately still waiting to get that first yellowtail!
420 Casting you’ll get one man! Just pay attention to the fish counts. The season is really starting to pick up! I usually hop on a local boat as soon once the yellow counts are good and consistent for acouple days in arrow
I have all the lexas love them... just got this one komodo 471 I like it too.... but I just got my hands on a shimano 500hg... bro this thing is sick ..... I'm going to get another...lol
Manuel Rodriguez nice bro! I wish I had the 471 instead of the 463. My next purchase is going to be a 500hg! I want it so bad! Just looking for a good deal on one right now. Not stoked on the price tag of the HG haha
Jacob Sanden with proper use and the right drag and line lb, you can definitely get it done! Thing gives off 30 lbs max drag! Absolutely insane! Definitely wouldn’t be my weapon of choice during a bluefin but though lol
I'm taking it you favor the Lexa over the SS ? seems your fishing with it more, in your videos. almost a year has been by and your thoughts on it now ?
Get Bent Kayak Fishing thanks man I appreciate it! I’m excited to feel it out and put some fish against it. I think I’ve seen some of your videos btw. Do you fish SD bay?
Get Bent Kayak Fishing I thought I recognized your channel name. I watched your PB video. I’m jealous man. We don’t have a very good bass population here in Ventura county
Much Appreciate the view bro that was a crazy fun day seemed they would bite on anything then my buddy landed those double Hali's was Icing on the cake to a great day on the water.
What adjustments do you make to the reel when you fly line a bait with the komodo ss compared to throwing jigs? Appreciate the videos keep them coming bruh
Mychal Cummings Ive never fly lined with my Komodo, but just loosen up the tensioning knob enough for the bait to swim freely when the reel is in free spool. Just loosen till you no longer feel resistance when the bait is swimming out
Salty Bums lol for sure. It’s pretty unbelievable what companies are doing with the new stuff now. The 13 A3 also apparently has 30 lbs of drag but it’s a 300 size.
David great rod. When I bought I think I got it on tackle usa when it was just released. I’ve had some people saying they found them for as low as $139. But idk what website they found that on unfortunately
Bro I just picked up the tranx 500 2 days ago on Cl..... 365 new.... I sall some to on offer up bro... I getting 3 of them rods ... I found some for 124 on line...
This is off topic but im trying to figure out a good starter yellowtail combo i was thinking of getting a sealine 30sha with a Californian trihelelix. If you got any suggestions it would help thanx
Edan sturdy the trihelix would be perfect and I would get the daiwa saltist black gold. Either size 35 or 40. The 30 would work too. But a 35 or 40 would prepare you for any size yellow and I feel the saltist will last you longer then the sealine. Super nice reel for the price! I still fish them. My dad and I have had our saltist black gold for 5 or 6 years now
steve gonzalez I haven’t been able to fish it yet. This was the only day I really got to feel it out so far. Casts well and easy. If you’re getting it for irons I would get the 7:1 instead of the 6:1 gear ratio. At least that’s what I would do.
Is this reel good for lure fishing? How does it cast? Im bit concerned about casting diatance.. Thinking about getting komodo 350 model for lure fishing
Bidhan Joshee I fish the Komodo 300 with lighter lures and the 400 for heavier stuff like surface irons. The 300 definitely handles the lighter lures, like SP minnows, wax wings, colt sniper stickbaits, and smaller swimbaits a lot better than the 400
@@Dirty.Hookers thanks for the info. I fish for golden mahseer in himalayas we use spoons and plugs around 20 to 30gram range hope this cast these lures at least 40 to 50 meters otherwise for the power and line capacity this reel is awesome.
@@Dirty.Hookers as u mentioned it does cast better than its a absolutely perfect reel for mahseer fishing! A decent mahseer can strip 100 meter of line in one go in fast water so no problem for that too lots of line capacity and for power i dont think there is any other low profile baitcaster out there which can beat komodo. Soon will get one and fish. Tight lines.
Fishman Dad that depends on what your plans with the set up will be. I would’ve been happy Fishing the Komodo forever. The only reason I got the tranx 500 is for big fish trips like bluefin, and cedros 50lb yellowtail. Otherwise a 400 size reel is more ideal for for our 10-20 lb grade yellows, and bonito and barracuda
T Kovach it’s definitely a little work horse! My only complaint is that the knob is a knuckle buster. But I’ve seen some newer models with a knob similar to the lexa HD so I might have to get my handle replaced and see how I like it
Patrick Carter it’s between the Lexa HD and the Komodo. Both are great and have their pros to them, but it comes down to personal preference if someone were to choose one or the other. The only complaint I’ve had for the Komodo is that it’s a knuckle buster because it’s knob is so close to the handle. But I guess the new models have an extended knob like the lexas so if that’s the case it really is a tough decision
Patrick Carter I know that didn’t really answer your question lol, but I’ve fished the lexa HD for about 3 years now and fished the Komodo for about a year. I personally don’t prefer one over the other and love them equally
I have the lexa 300 hd and really like it how it cast. Just fondled the komodo recently and it feels really rugged and well built i guess what it comes down to is casting and power. I can cast the lexa nicely and like that it has mag cast just wondering if you backlash the komodo alot or do there brakes help that out enough. And which has more cranking power
So, I ended up getting a tranx 400. Landed a 20 lb yellow and the reel handed it like a champ. Loved the tranx so much I ended up selling my Avet MXL to get another bait caster because honestly I didn't like how it cast. I'm considering either another tranx but also something with a bit more drag pressure. My options are another tranx 400, lexa 400, komodo SS 463, or Saltiga Z30 conventional. What would you recommend?
Dirty Hookers you should definitely try them out, super light, and I think they have a better backbone than the sct series. Got 2 of them, and just ordered 2 more.
I used to do about half the spool with a top shot of mono. Over the last year or 2 with all my bait casters, I’ve been running a full spool of braid and only doing a short 6-10 foot leader of mono or flouro. It all comes down to personal preference. When casting conventional reels, I really like a long top shot of about 80-100 yards of mono. For baitcasters though, I’ve been doing better with straight braid to a short leader
urmailingalen my only complaint was that the handle is a knuckle buster but I guess they’ve made a new handle more similar to the lexa for the newer models, so I’m sure it would be amazing with a better feeling handle. Other then that, casts well, beast of a reel. I’d recommend

Kevin Nguyen yeah I really wanna try a tranx. But at that price I’d just rather get the Trinidad. If someone ever offers me a tranx for a good deal I definitely wouldn’t pass it up
The Tranx 500 is an awesome reel but the 300 and 400 don't compare to the Lexas or Komodos. If you want to spend big money on a Shimano baitcaster in the 300 and 400 size then do yourself a favor and get the Calcutta 300 and 400 D models but don't waste your money on a Tranx 300 or 400.
I know this is an old comment but can you explain why you think that is? I've heard tranx over komodo and I've also heard komodo over tranx so I'd like to hear why. Thanks
fizzle Lor that reminds me of when I tickled a troll and then it would definitely not have to go back in my mind when it happened and now I’m going on the same day and then that will work out again soon and I’ll let you know as soon as possible thanks
You were the first California fisher man I ever watch and I all so try to catch yellowtail
Fishboy_ Tran thanks man! Hope you get a yellow this year. The season is really starting to pick up everywhere
Thanks for the great review!! I have the same setup.... Its sick!!! Super lightweight you can fish it all day for big fish.
Mychal Cummings Hell yeah! Feels so good. And yeah super light. I love being able to throw big lures on it and not get warn out

REELDEALJOJO Orozco good luck btw! Hope you get a yellow or a croaker!
Having a synchronised level-wind makes it a top of the range reel. Only entry level cheepies don’t have it. So much nicer when a fish pulls drag
Definitely a smother while fish take drag!
I'm looking into buying my first saltwater casting setup, probably go with the lexa! Been hitting up more charters lately still waiting to get that first yellowtail!

Good video man , I was gonna get a shadow stalker for my Lexa but I got a daiwa dxsb instead ( it was on sale at turners
Brandon Huntress yeah I almost bought the shadow stalker for my lexa wn. Can’t pass up the turners deals though. Especially the Fred hall deals!
Someone just landed a 80lb bluefin on one of these reels! Sold!
Jacob Sanden with proper use and the right drag and line lb, you can definitely get it done! Thing gives off 30 lbs max drag! Absolutely insane! Definitely wouldn’t be my weapon of choice during a bluefin but though lol

Nice video I to use the Komodo 463 in LJ mostly great reels I Subbed !!!
Get Bent Kayak Fishing thanks man I appreciate it! I’m excited to feel it out and put some fish against it. I think I’ve seen some of your videos btw. Do you fish SD bay?
Dirty Hookers Ya I'm all over both bays as much as I can man the bites been great last month or two awesome quality of fish
Get Bent Kayak Fishing I thought I recognized your channel name. I watched your PB video. I’m jealous man. We don’t have a very good bass population here in Ventura county

Get Bent Kayak Fishing so rad man! I’ll be camping in Santee in 3 weeks. Maybe we can link up!
the okuma do have maybe an extra 10% of line. both the 300 and the 400 size
Nolan Oshiro ok I thought so! When I was spooling it up I was like “ this feels like a little more line then the lexa”. Thanks!
Just loosen till you no longer feel resistance when the bait is swimming out
Thanks brother!!! always appreciate your knowledge and helpfulness with fishing techniques and fishing equipment keep the videos coming thank you
Mychal Cummings glad I can help👊🏼
once I see you fight a fish on this reel I’ll consider getting it, 30lbs of drag seems too good to be true haha
Salty Bums lol for sure. It’s pretty unbelievable what companies are doing with the new stuff now. The 13 A3 also apparently has 30 lbs of drag but it’s a 300 size.
I have caught shark on this reel. I have tested the drag and it exceeded the 30 pounds, about 33 lbs average.
JMC Ranch I agree. My buddy has been using the size 300 for sharks and batrays and even the 300 has enough power to land those surf monsters.
My lexa 300 hsl wont die im still using it.
tice sine the lexas are really nice. Still fish them hard. Starting to really like these komodos though
Another good video dirty !! Do em dirty !!
James Hunt thanks man! Looking forward to putting a fish against it
You got me hooked on this rod, but i can't find it anywhere for less than $179. Any suggestions? Thank you!
David great rod. When I bought I think I got it on tackle usa when it was just released. I’ve had some people saying they found them for as low as $139. But idk what website they found that on unfortunately
I just found the 8'6" on Amazon for only $140. Just ordered one!
Bro I just picked up the tranx 500 2 days ago on Cl..... 365 new.... I sall some to on offer up bro... I getting 3 of them rods ... I found some for 124 on line...
Manuel Rodriguez that’s a sweet deal man! For the tranx and the rod! Badass man. Hope you get some good use out of everything!
Manuel Rodriguez hey quick question. What website did you find the Okuma SCT for $124 at?
Do you prefer the komodo over the daiwa lexa hd?
EdwardLi I like the Komodo for extra power like if I’m targeting tuna, and Lexa for more smooth easier casts with lures.
This is off topic but im trying to figure out a good starter yellowtail combo i was thinking of getting a sealine 30sha with a Californian trihelelix. If you got any suggestions it would help thanx

Wow

steve gonzalez I haven’t been able to fish it yet. This was the only day I really got to feel it out so far. Casts well and easy. If you’re getting it for irons I would get the 7:1 instead of the 6:1 gear ratio. At least that’s what I would do.

What pound line
M. Herman 50 lb braid with 40 lb mono
So would u suggest that I put a Komodo or a trans my rod .

Sweet I just bought one and the shimano talica and tranx handles fit on them so that’s a solid option if you don’t want your knuckles busted anymore
T Kovach that’s another good option. I forgot that the tranx handle fits the Komodo. Thanks
What is your favorite low profile baitcaster for yellowtail

what are you current PCH setups? Idk if I should get the 9ft H or XH for irons
Artour Martirosyan nice! Yeah I’ve definitely been interested. I just wanna start exploring my rod companies. Might try cousins for my next rod
dougie monsta if I were to get a pch. I’d get the new 9’ H. 20-60 would be perfect for irons.

almost the same amount of line
blueser23 yeah almost. Really close
Any size tranx esp the 500 is a complete powerhouse...lexas and Komodos are good but tranx's are on another level. Try em out if you get the chance!

pan8a that’s true. I’d rather throw a Calcutta in that size. The only tranx I would be down to get would be the 500
