I have an RD-6 and they're seriously some of the most rugged knives ever built. It really is sad you can't get these any more, I LOVE their 5160 steel. Awesome video man, I don't know how I didn't find it years ago. ✌🏼
I love the 5160 steel also Especially on my hard use knives and large choppers. I agree with you. It’s a dam same we can’t get them anymore. First class blades
I have really grown to love this knife. At first the handle and the sheath were big turn offs for me. I put my RD6 in a drawer and forgot about it for a while. I am 6'6" and wear an XL glove. My EDC is a Glock 20, and I am fine with it. For whatever reason, the Micarta scales OKC puts on the RD6 just feel so chunky to me, I couldn't use it. Then I found The Knife Connection has G10 scales for the RD6, and they make a world of difference! Complete opposite end of the spectrum, from miserable to dreamy. I can use the RD6 with TKC G10 scales all day, it just begs to be handled. Then I got a Cleveland Kydex sheath for it, and again, huge difference. Quiet, fast, secure. These two things breathed new life into the RD6 for me an I highly recommend them. My RD6 is quickly climbing up with a couple of my Tops Knives for my favorite hard use outdoors knives.
@@easygoingoutdoorse.g.o7342 I was wrong. Just checked and Barrington Swords has one available for £125 I've already got the tanto version but I might still be tempted by the RD6. Just can't get over this knife addiction lol.
I have this RD6 & RD9 both with custom scales & kydex sheaths. So far the best 5160 steel is from OKC but it's unfortunate the company went out of business.
Very soothing video. I have this knife along with the RD 7 and RD Tanto. The RD 7 has serrations that I'm not too keen on, but I can't wait to get out camping soon. I put the rounded, less thick G10 scales from The Knife Connection on all three of mine and they make the knife a different beast. The orange scales on the RD 7 look pretty badass withe orange 550 paracord for the wrist. I think 5160 mid-carbon spring steel is my favorite knife steel now. Even above all of the 'super' duper steels.
Haven’t see the after sales scales. Sounds interesting. Just might need to take a look at them. 5160 is one of my favourite hard use steel. My RTAK ll is made from it and it has taken a severe beating over the years
I just got this knife and love... now the handles were real Square and big..and it hurt my hand so I got out my Dremmels and went to work Sanding the heck out of it.... Looking at his Scales on the video they still look Blocky to me....I took my time and it came out great...now they fit my hand awesome they fit just a little bigger than my esee 6 handles fit ...and if I feel they need to go down more I can do easily....I put a 90 on the spine the full spine..so I can hit a Farro rod....and to get Fluff from wood.... I also took my drama and got rid of all the sharp hotspots on the knife... There was a lot of them.. Now everything fits exactly perfect.... Took off some of the Paint sanding it...but looks great...I alway fit my knives to fit me....I dont have any knives that I don't Touch up.....I use this as the first knife I use outdoors I trust it... so many knives have better steel but can't take the Abuse that this monster can...I have a BK2 its a GREAT knife but its to short to do anything with... this knife I can do it all...and I am going to make the Choil deeper so it fits my hand better....and that is what is important is for your knife to fit you....I may make a video about it...
Sounds that you have really went too town on your blade. My sentiment exactly. If the blades doesn’t fit you the way you like it too, you will just leave it in a drawer at home and what’s the point in that. Give me a shout when you get a video up on your blade m8. Looking forward to seeing it 👍🔪🔪
Quite a performer. I wish they'd bring this series back
Me too. Great performing field tools
I hope they bring these back, they are beautiful and functional knives.
Couldn’t agree more with you m8 👍👍

Some nice mods there m8. First class 👍
The Ranger RD series are great hard use knives.
That’s a pity as you definitely get your money’s worth and the knife is fit for purpose

ONCE AGAIN WELL TESTED 👌 HANDLED THE HARD WOOD UP BY YOU PRETTY GOODL LOOKS SOLID KNIFE.. ATVB
GREAT SOLID KNIFE THAT GOES ALL DAY AND MORE.
Great knife. I have also a rat 7 (similar shape to esee 6) and i've tried a esee 5. This rd 6 stand between these 2.
All the knives you mentioned are great work horses for hard use with good warranty’s and this is why I used and liked them

That’s a shame they went out of business as they made some really good knives

5160 is pretty tough stuff!!!
Yea I love 5160 for my large hard use knives. It holds a good edge and is fairly easy to sharpen into the bargain

Mohassive difference between the factory spine and the sharpened spine!
Just a bit lol 😆
