I remember 1967 - I was in pre-school, crying, crying the entire time. Until I was pulled out of pre-school. 56 years later I grew up, and now I am crying that I had to go to work. Some things never change. lol - Yes, I love the music.
So I've listened to this a bit over the years. What I hear now is (maybe accidental) master singers, with perfect understanding of how to deliver a phrase, when to punch it, when to be in the spotlight, when to be in the background. All the nuances of great harmony-in four-ish singers. (Maybe the greatest gift is in John staying mostly in the background on vocals and letting the other be the real singers). How many songwriter today who can't really sing have ruined many a band's chances success by insisting that they be the singer too.

There's a hell of a lot of good music around today if you bother to look past top 40, and there was plenty of shit around in those days too, particularly in the 70s.
Michelle Phillips had a very smooth angelic voice! I could be wrong, but I don't think she sang lead vocal on very many of this band's songs. It seemed to me like most of the time it was either Cass Elliot or Denny Doherty. Cass Elliot was my absolute favorite member of The Mamas And The Papas. She was SO incredibly talented! ~Dutch
SP MORAN I like your comment , each one sang in a different key , it always sounded so wonderful , i wish i could have sung harmonies with them ,i would have blended in rather nicely xxx lop Jane x💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
I will always consider The Beatles to be the greatest act in XX century’s music scene. With that said, over the years, I came to the conclusion that the band who best represents the very spirit, sound and style of the 60s is The Mamas and The Papas.
I love that they had Michelle sing the solos even though she doesn’t have the most powerful pipes her tone and delivery works better for the meaning of the song.
Long live the 60s era , what utter joy these lovely people gave us , i always wanted to sing harmonies with them , i would have blended in rather nicely x This classic is so lovely lol Jane x 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

"This is dedicated to the one I love" and we will always love you for it! Such beautiful harmonies that blended into heavenly sounds, No-one was more important to the sound than the total of them.
WOW AMAZING TUNE! Takes me back to school in 67 when I was best friends with a lad called John Spray in Connahs Quay! This was our fav. song! Where are you now John?
I was in the room next to my mate's and we were studying electrical and elecronic engineering respectively.. He built himself an amp and bought a Garard deck and some Kef speakers and played this single over and over again. Just as well I liked it too. 😁 The first album I bought was The Spencer Davies Group incl Stevie Winwood.

The Mamas & The Papas didn't write this song. It was written & recorded by The 5 Royales in 1957 - later a hit for The Shirelles. John Phillips did create a tasty arrangement, though - and they sing it beautifully.
My dog Seoni had severe anxiety.... this song would calm him down during car rides. He recently passed and I play this song to remember him. Love you Seoni RIP baby boy... he was too young to go
Iron disciple, I know what you mean. My poodle died 7 years ago and his death changed my heart. It is no small thing that we should lose unconditional love. I am so sorry for your loss.

I love that these women aren't scantily dressed, barely any make up and just..BEAUTIFUL
all natural ,natural beauty rules!
Everyone remembers Cass's voice (and it WAS great), but it was Michelle's beautiful vocal on this intro.
The 60s wouldn't have been the same without the Mamas and Papas ❤love them ❤
Michelle Phillips was (and still is) absolutely GORGEOUS
..and still not a nice person.

Wow. They gave a high 5 back in 1967! Ahead of their time! I used to listen to the radio back then waiting for this to come on! Those were the days!
I love their music, understandable lyrics.... great harmony. Part folk and part soft rock! Beautiful song.
Thank goodness for that beautiful Mandolin bit of background playing that makes it all a little extra sweet!
Some of the very best harmony ever recorded anywhere.I remember it as though it were yesterday.FIVE stars!

The vocal harmonies are beautiful and perfect. It doesn't get any better than this.
When singers had beautiful & unique voices...!!! Not like music today 👍
