I want to drive this home. I used to be friends on Fitbit with my still trainer. I was stunned at how many steps and activity he got just from his work. I think sometimes people erroneously say metabolism when really what's happening is the person is fidgeting and moving and doing stuff all day. And they burn more calories. Simple as that.
You just described metabolism :). I think what you meant was metabolism at rest. For example, after a HIIT workout, the post workout metabolism, at rest, is higher for 24 hours. Perhaps it adds to what you burn even when you are working during that 24 hours. But if you are constantly moving, your body is burning calories.. And someone with a slow metabolism won't feel like "fidgeting" and "doing stuff" all day.
@@pureabsolute4618 read what i said again. You just restated my point with unnecessary nuance. Point: people burn more calories moving. It's a big thing.
True to a large extent. A lot of these people have lower satiation thresholds too. They're often stuffed after eating 800 calories. If you have a very active daily schedule and walk 20k steps (10mi) that's 1000 extra calories burned, plus a few hundred calories of protein used to repair the stress on muscles & joints. Using an extra 1250 calories per day makes a big difference over the course of months & years. Combine that with a low satiation threshold & you end up naturally low bodyfat, especially if you train that over the years & your body becomes adapted to it. Add in some strength training & shift diet toward protein & you end up shredded. I'm sure my dietary requirements will change again, also depending on my sports goals. Our ideal diets change depending on the person, and depending on the time.
Totally related to having the cheat/meal pre-workout. Once I do that, and no matter how tired or unmotivated I feel, I no longer have a choice. I'm gonna go train hard. That feeling of guilt or gluttony drives it. I use it to my advantage.
I have the opposite, i can't have food before training - Or there has to be 3+ hrs or 5+ optimally of fasting and then i usually have a caffeine source before hard trainings. This gives me the best results - on food I feel tired and like half my energy is digesting the food.
This was great. I’m from where this guy is from and food culture is different than what we see on this channel. The past 2 days I’ve been eating rice with every meal. I grew up this way but the internet has lead me to believe I shouldn’t. Seeing him at this age and fitness, eating the foods he craves is validating.
Took me a long time to change my approach to eating . I grew up in the midwest where meals were more of a feast than just dinner or lunch . HUGE portions until full then crash out on the couch . Now I kind of trick myself in that area by putting heavy foods in a small bowl, and my light ones like vegetables in a big bowl . I also get lots of movement in painting houses at 58 . If I take time off I not only gain weight but I start losing energy .
It strikes me that with his attitude and mind, he very distinctly directs his mitochondria to see all food as FUEL. He actively directs the flow of energy and growth in his body.
I came to the same exact conclusion. He's literally visualizing and directing his body, then experiences the results he intently focused on. "Energy flows where attention goes."
Love how intuitive he is about what his body needs. Being in the present moment while eating would help instead of eating while being distracted with all of the devices that is so common nowadays.
There's no shot hes not on TRT, at 55 as a Cancer Survivor the chances his body is producing enough Test to train so hard and recover to produce a Physique like his is slim to non-existent. For comparison this guy looks bigger and more vascular at 55 then Jay Cutler at age 51 and Cutler is a x4 Mr Olympia and is known for still training consistently and being in shape still and most certainly on a maintenance does of TRT after years of blasting GEAR. Point is Bill Maeda isn't natural so 90% of this conversation hes having with Thomas is kinda moot.
@@rcmunro22 Agreed 100%. I was looking for the first TRT post and didn’t see any. 😂 I’m not saying he doesn’t work harder than 99.9% of people. You could work out just as hard as he does and never achieve that physique without the help of performance enhaching drugs.
7:23 I have that exact. Depending on how your metabolism and if or you are fasting. I will tend to order a meal, but only eat a third of it, and then I’m fine for the rest of the night. Learn how to know your body. Be good y’all

Incredible the way he talks about food. I get it. However I was this way in my 20s and 30s, so to hear he’s 50 and talking this way about it like “fuel he needs “ because his “metabolism is so hungry and constantly burning “ is impressive.
Really impressed with this gentleman and how Thomas interviews him is really gooa as he allows the person to really talk without unwanted interuptions! I also think we are all obviously different in disposition and I think a lot of genetics plays into this as well.
I have to say, this is how I eat too. I am 65, female, 5'7" and 113 lbs. I never vary in my weight (well, when I was pregnant I weighed 135, going back to my base weight in 2 weeks). I am glad to hear someone extoling the virtues of just eating when you are hungry, and eating a good variety of foods.

I wonder about the role played by each person’s gut microbiota or flora. Also, the lymphatic system of some people just seems to work more efficiently removing the toxins from their bodies. Two cents.
My overall training approach was changed dramatically when I understood the importance of 100 % rest, not working out till my body told me it was ready instead if me telling my body !! .
Was very interested in when he said that when he didn't have the sugar his head felt funny, he made reference to his childrens apple juice. I find that interesting. That said there's a lot I agree with, I exercise every day, I don't measure my food, 10.000 steps a day or more . I am mindful of what I eat, but it does not run my life. Great interview.
He eats only after well into hungry (seems maybe too as sometimes he “loses his shit”, but whatever- he’s not worried and doesn’t stress), then stops when either not hungry or comfortably full (never stuffed), follows intuitive eating and has an incredible overall lifetime level of movement and training.
This is really refreshing to hear. I eat kind of the same way. Funny thing is I eat a lot of cooked cabbage too because it’s filling and I love the taste. Always eat fruit daily too. I go on binges too where I feel like I need more carbs, or junk food or calories in general and then I don’t. So glad I found this because I thought I was strange lol
i have a hard time restricting calories and cutting weight but 'waiting till actually hungry' has been a decent practice for me. especially when going with 1-2 scoops of protein powder at that time I really eliminate a lot of bs snacking and useless calories
If you're not fasting on purpose, why not get yourself some snacks high in fiber? Just an apple would be enough to let your hunger stay quiet for a while
If what he says is true about his lifestyle where he has always worked jobs that have required him to move then that makes a ton of sense. Combine a high metabolism with constant movement, 12 hours breaks between meals, weight and strength training, and lots of protein and it sounds feasible.
I've always noticed when I'm getting leaner there's one common sign....and that's when I feel a little hungry before bed on a regular basis, the waist gets smaller.
Its funny, when you see the thumbnail and title, you get curious and don't know what to expect to hear from the guy. But what you do not expect to hear, is words like ice cream, soda, starbucks coffee and stuff like that. And I get that this is not the staple of his diet. But it makes me think that one of the things he has going for him, is probably being chill, not overthinking ... basically peace of mind.
My husband always tells me that enjoying the food your'e eating is what's best. And like many of you, I agree, moving all day is probably the most important part of it all.

Psychedelics are just an exceptional mental health breakthrough. It's quite fascinating how effective they are against depression and anxiety. Saved my life.
Can you help with the reliable source I would really appreciate it. Many people talk about mushrooms and psychedelics but nobody talks about where to get them. Very hard to get a reliable source here in Australia. Really need!
Yes, steve_porassss . I have the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD and addiction and Mushrooms definitely made a huge huge difference to why am clean today.
I wish they were readily available in my place. Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He's constantly talking about killing someone. He's violent. Anyone reading this Familiar w/ BPD know if it is common for an obsession with violence.
The best takeaway from this(for me personally) is that you need to carefully listen to your body. Biofeedback plays a big deal when it comes to fueling your body. Couple that with science based nutrition advice, and you can probably take those steps you need to hit your goals. But also be consistent because perfection is the enemy of consistency. Cheat when you want, but use that fuel to power yourself throughout that next step you have to take. I was at 235 in the beginning of 2023, and i have been plateauing at 168-175 recently. I will see if any of this info can resonate with me with my goal of 145!!
He mentioned Pavel. The whole time I was watching this video I was thinking, "I bet he does greasing the groove throughout the day and that keeps him fit."
i knew him from other stuff and i find honest what he says but for what we know he may have a strange metabolic syndrome that helps in the process and it has not to be negative for health or just gen. gifted, something reserved for 99.5 % people this world
His Secret: Intermittent fasting, keeping insulin sensitive by exercise and stopping eating before he is sated... And staying in the lower carb range. Which is perfect if you have a normal metabolic profile.
I'm Asian and I feel the same way he does about food. It worked out fine when I was swimming Varsity in College but as a late 40s dad, I've packed on the pounds. I followed Thomas into the Keto world and lost 40 pounds in 2 months but then had a severe infection from the rapid weight loss that resulted in going to the ER for emergency surgery. Took 6 months to recover so I gained a ton of weight. Now I'm a part time skills coach in Hockey and coach my kid's hockey teams. All I want to do is go on the ice and either train my kids or work on my own drills. I'm burning 500 calories a session and eating the way this guy talks about. Losing weight every week and enjoying life again. I almost want to call it implicit weight loss.
He said a couple good things. He never stopped moving for more than 10 minutes at a time. Get a sit stand desk with a treadmill, stepper etc. lean on the wall with wall squats, do air squats etc all day and don’t sit around. If you eat, use that energy. Go for a walk as soon as you finish eating.
Not all of us have jobs that require us to do nothing. I can't imagine a hell where I'd ever be able to actually do my job and exercise at the same time. For one I'd make even more mistakes.
Very interesting interview! He is basically a race car running on high octane fuel. It is interesting that he had colon cancer and has severe inflammation in the joints. Those do sound like diet related issues.
This was great to listen to. Intuitive eating is definitely my dream goal. I hope to master it in the near future. Perhaps after my bodybuilding career concludes.
I had just recently said to myself that my motto is "stay hungry"; both in the motivation sense and in the diet sense. I try not to stuff myself and eat until almost full but stay a little hungry. Good video!
True belief is a massive key in literally our entire world. Just the studies showing how our words and beliefs affect water are mind blowing proof of this exact thing. He believes it's fuel. Truly believes. So...it's fuel.
Amazing genetics. The only person that can eat however much of whatever he wants and can stay that lean. Wow. And to be able to do it without any enhancement drugs!!! Amazing

He’s in tune with his body, extremely active, and is blessed with great genetics.
high metabolism yo!
@@muffemod for sure
There's no shot hes not on TRT, at 55 as a Cancer Survivor the chances his body is producing enough Test to train so hard and recover to produce a Physique like his is slim to non-existent. For comparison this guy looks bigger and more vascular at 55 then Jay Cutler at age 51 and Cutler is a x4 Mr Olympia and is known for still training consistently and being in shape still and most certainly on a maintenance does of TRT after years of blasting GEAR. Point is Bill Maeda isn't natural so 90% of this conversation hes having with Thomas is kinda moot.
@@rcmunro22
Agreed 100%. I was looking for the first TRT post and didn’t see any. 😂
I’m not saying he doesn’t work harder than 99.9% of people. While he isn’t taking TRT, he is on peptides, which are available only through a doctors prescription. He also has probably very good genetics.
You could work out just as hard as he does and never achieve that physique without the help of performance enhaching drugs.
And yet still developed cancer?🤔
Impressive honest man. Grath video
7:23 I have that exact. Depending on how your metabolism and if or you are fasting. I will tend to order a meal, but only eat a third of it, and then I’m fine for the rest of the night. Learn how to know your body. Be good y’all
This is on point so far. I’d just say- stop sugar and carbs a little earlier than you want to in the meal. I’m probably going to write some more stuff later.
I think he's so funny..enjoyed this interview. I like his intuitiveness.
Lifestyle and genetics playing a huge part here obviously… definitely appreciate the honesty.
This video made me appreciate how important quality audio is. Wow. Took it for granted. Yeah I’m not buying what this guy is selling. I could be absolutely wrong though.
If I dont have some icecream every day I can see how flat my muscles look the next day..and I love it.. pumps you up and you dont get fat and flabby it your portions are not crazy.
I’m the same exact way, eat what I want. Lift jiu jitsu and ultramarathons. I stay ripped cuz I stay active and have decent amount of muscle. For the most part I eat clean but I do eat a lot of carbohydrates. White rice mainly.
I've seen this guy on instagram as well. Functional strength, well proportioned, and shredded at 55 - goals!
Great interview. He has the right and healthy relationship with food
Avg person will die from this diet and become obese. We dont know his bloodwork. You arent a genetic freak like him
Omg! This is my diet and life style too. Every bite is fuel and grateful for it. When you have people dying or starvation. Discipline to not over eat and utilize what I do eat to complete my tasks.
I like his honesty. It sounds like he was blessed with a really healthy metabolism. That and he is dedicated to exercise.
Exactly....genetics....unsedentary life....and exercise is his priority and hobby....not exactly possible for a writer, or a musician, or an intellectual doing cognitive work.....plus he's PRBLY on Sarms or something...none kf these people are honest....delauer is the LEAST honest guy himself.
Incredible the way he talks about food. I get it. However I was this way in my 20s and 30s, so to hear he’s 50 and talking this way about it like “fuel he needs “ because his “metabolism is so hungry and constantly burning “ is impressive.
holy shit! I'm the same way. I get what hes means. I'm glad found this video. I'm going to follow Bill now.
Let’s just add that this guy has crazy genetics.
@@chasingshangrila or digestive system not working properly
Great guy bill. Keep it up. Realistic
Excellent presentation Thomas, I consume fuel in a similar fashion. I'm 61, not shredded but relatively healthy and medication free.
This is being in tune with your body it takes years to acquire and you can literally feel what your body needs
Really impressed with this gentleman and how Thomas interviews him is really gooa as he allows the person to really talk without unwanted interuptions! I also think we are all obviously different in disposition and I think a lot of genetics plays into this as well.
I love Bill Maeda's vibe ✨️ love his Insta posts too
I have to say, this is how I eat too. I am 65, female, 5'7" and 113 lbs. I never vary in my weight (well, when I was pregnant I weighed 135, going back to my base weight in 2 weeks). I am glad to hear someone extoling the virtues of just eating when you are hungry, and eating a good variety of foods.
That’s not how it works. Eating high fiber foods is the secret to stay shredded like me.
It’s so nice to have good genes.
@@unnamed2737 Everything in life is genetics. No one can take credit for who and what they become in life. Even all your ambition and hard, success and dedication all come from chance and luck
"Variety" should never include toxic, should it?
I wonder about the role played by each person’s gut microbiota or flora. Also, the lymphatic system of some people just seems to work more efficiently removing the toxins from their bodies. Two cents.
My overall training approach was changed dramatically when I understood the importance of 100 % rest, not working out till my body told me it was ready instead if me telling my body !! .
I would have been more interested to listen to his colon cancer story in his early forties. You should do a follow-up story about that.
He would win a top Natural Bodybuilding Contest. Great bodybuilding wisdom. Much appreciated
It's his focus on food consumed as working energy. Mind over matter. I love he still indulges when he feels the need.
I can’t wait to hear this!! I’m 53 & can’t workout for hours a day like I used to. I want to stay hard 💪
If you are maintaining a good steady weight then you probably know what your body needs.
i have a hard time restricting calories and cutting weight but 'waiting till actually hungry' has been a decent practice for me. especially when going with 1-2 scoops of protein powder at that time I really eliminate a lot of bs snacking and useless calories
If you're not fasting on purpose, why not get yourself some snacks high in fiber? Just an apple would be enough to let your hunger stay quiet for a while
@@minn5459 True but most people can’t even eat an apple lol
@@minn5459 i like apples but I don’t stop there I might lead that into other snacks but yes fruits and veggies are def the ideal snacks
His secret: be born gifted
Japanese term for the concept: Hara hachi bu. Eat till your stomach is 80% full.
Great channel. Thanks for the amazing work Thomas.
It’s not only what you eat but also your environment, people, community... This man surely spends lots of time outside . It’s Hawaii!!!
90% genetics 5%food 5%exercise for this guy
It's literally his job to be fit. He's a personal trainer
I was thinking about that gentleman some time ago, I'd seen him on Tik Tok. There was no way I could've found him otherwise. Thanks!
If what he says is true about his lifestyle where he has always worked jobs that have required him to move then that makes a ton of sense. Combine a high metabolism with constant movement, 12 hours breaks between meals, weight and strength training, and lots of protein and it sounds feasible.
I’m the same way… I’m 44 years old, don’t really watch what I eat and I’m 15% or less in body fat… I don’t drink, smoke and don’t over eat…
Do you use a Runstar-4 or similar devices to weigh yourself? This scale, along with the handheld sensor, provides insights that my eyes can only guess at. Over the past three years, I have documented my results using 15 different metrics. The body composition analysis is more accurate than the flattering reflection in my mirror. What do you consider as safe percentage of visceral and subcutaneous fat % that is healthy and sustainable for achieving longevity goals? Thank you for considering this question.
He is 59 & has so many mental health issues plus probable CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac.
He's constantly talking about killing someone.
He's violent. Anyone reading this
Familiar w/ BPD know if it is common for an obsession with violence.
Is he on instagram?
Yes he is steve_porassss.
Biggest takeaway, stay connected to the food as it's being digested. 😎👍🇦🇺
I’m dying. How’d you come across my channel. As I’m listening to him I’m like I don’t think they’re on the same page. 😅
i knew him from other stuff and i find honest what he says but for what we know he may have a strange metabolic syndrome that helps in the process and it has not to be negative for health or just gen. gifted, something reserved for 99.5 % people this world
His Secret: Intermittent fasting, keeping insulin sensitive by exercise and stopping eating before he is sated...
I lost 8lbs in one week eating fast food only
He said a couple good things.
Except that he was very ok sitting for the interview for 40mins- sure he will work hard after this
Very interesting interview!
Good video!
Im always hungry even after i eat
True belief is a massive key in literally our entire world. Just the studies showing how our words and beliefs affect water are mind blowing proof of this exact thing.
He believes it's fuel. Truly believes.
So...it's fuel.
Amazing interview brother
“I don’t do intermittent eating but I don’t usually eat breakfast” 😂
Amazing genetics. The only person that can eat however much of whatever he wants and can stay that lean. Wow. And to be able to do it without any enhancement drugs!!! Amazing
His metaphysical beliefs are on point. It sound wuwu to many of us because a lot of us have lost that connection to ourselves as beings.
Pure genetics and extreme hard work.
I`m 40 years old and this guy is only 15 years older than me, looks like my grandad, that’s crazy but his body looks good!!!
We love Bill round these parts
Great interview. Bill looks like a samurai.
well mate sorry to inform you that the 2 peptide you take are muscle enhancers
he only recently started those under the direction of a specialist. Bill has been shredded for many years, and has the videos to prove it. I remember watching his training videos from 12 years ago and he was even more muscular back then.
Love this guy. Very inspirational. Sadly can’t get there but he keeps me going.
