DIY: How to whiten teeth naturally for CHEAP!

- Thumbs up if you like DIY's!! I have a couple more I can't wait to share with you :)You can use this DIY to whiten your teeth naturally, up to 5 times per week! Results and brighter teeth will be visible within the first couple weeks to a month. Be consistent with it and you'll love the end result!
Here are some extra tips to go along with this home remedy:
Don't drink or eat dark foods aka pizza, red wine, coffee, red coloured foods or oily things for 2 hours after using the baking soda/peroxide whitening paste .. Your teeth are extra porous at this time, so be careful!
Drink EVERYTHING other than water through a straw to save your teeth from any more stains
Try not to wear white t-shirts before you are happy with the whiteness of your teeth. White clothing and accessories only accentuates a dull smile!

I´m studying dentistry here in Portugal and I am almost becoming a dentist. I could spend 1h explaining why this is so bad for your teeth, but I will make it short. Your enamel does not regenerate like dentine (dentine 3). As long as you are distroying your enamel, your dentine which is yellow, starts to become more noticed. At the beginning, with small dental erosion, they can get "whiter", but with the time, and the acids from your diet, it will become more and more perceptive. Despite the sensibility you can get and the cavities (tooth decay), you will get not so good results. You can google it if you want. Tho my scientific comment, I LOVE ALEX 😘 xx

Patrícia Isabel those are also harmful for your teeth! For whitter teeth, if you don't want/don't have money to spend at a professional, try electric toothbrushes, and an abrasive thoothpaste. But don't use that thoothpaste regularly! It can cause dental sensitivity :) If you try some drugstore product don't forget to protect your gums :) xx

Although the result may seem that your teeth are whiter you have actually eroded and abraded your teeth. Lemon juice is very acidic and will erode your teeth. Baking soda is very abrasive and will abrade your teeth. Together they can have a very destructive effect. Once enamel is lost, it is lost forever.
The acid erodes the teeth and can make them very sensitive and prone to decay. In time they may get darker looking.

There's an exception for every rule, I guess. I studied dentistry and I can tell you this is danngerous, even though some people have gotten away with it :)
I've asked numerous of dentists and they all day that baking soda is safe for your teeth.

+Vanessa ahlström In all honesty the baking soda+hydrogen peroxide+lemon+5-10min=bad for the enamel. Citric acid in general is bad for your teeth and high consumption of it is really bad. Something high in acidic is low in PH and our bodies need a higher PH scale. No teeth wise, doing this to the teeth 2-3 a week is really bad no matter if someone else does it or the dentist saids it's okay. Everyone can have a different reaction to it, so it's best to take baby steps when messing with something so delicate like your enamel.

This is basically only working becuase it removes the outer (stained) layers of your teeth, revealing other layers of your teeth, and therefore actually damages your teeth, because it removes the enemal of the teeth. The baking soda works as an exfoliant too.
That's really bad for your teeth.. It's just simply stripping down your teeth a layer causing them to be very unhealthy. Anything super acidic is HORRIBLE for your teeth. And you are KILLING your teeth doing that multiple times a week

+Maddie Tomilson you can eat as many citrus fruits as you want as long as you rinse your mouth out with water. Not doing so will leave a coating of the fruit which will strip and harm your enamel. Same for sodas and juices.
Oh God No! Lemon is acidic and rips the enamel off your teeth. Don't do this! Once your enamels gone you can't get it back. Find a different tray and save your teeth.

Lemons are the worst possible thing you can put near your teeth! I used to eat them in my teens for clear skin, it worked but later on my front teeth all died one by one (basically rotted from the inside because of the acid seeping into the gumline) caused abcesses and now I have a full set of front top dental implants. All because of lemons! Bad, bad bad.

I hope that people will read this comment before trying this method. If you really like your teeth then do not try this method this is a really good way to strip the enamel off your teeth and once that enamel is gone you can never get that back. Then you are left with very sensitive teeth and more cavity prone. One good thing about this is you and your Dentist will become very good friends after using this method. Bottom line the lemons acid eats enamel of the tooth away so why would you go and brush it along with baking soda that is very abrasive to the teeth, and expect this to be okay. You should be very ashamed that you are putting something like this and wanting others to use this method and basically doing harm to their teeth. This video should be blocked!

That lemon trick is so clever! Adding activated charcoal powder in with the mixture will give it more whitening power as well :-)
Please don't do this, it will break down your tooth enamel and eventually lead to serious tooth decay and rot. You will have whiter teeth for a little while but eventually you'll have no teeth. The citric acid in the lemon is the worst but long term frequent use of hydrogen peroxide isn't good either. Mixed together it's a recipe for disaster. It's the acid in the lemon that causes the most damage though and some people have softer enamel than others and will show more damage in a shorter amount of time compared to people with harder tooth enamel. Source= I have 2 dental hygienists in my family and also damaged my own teeth as a child from eating lemons everyday.

And for the people who are saying that baking soda is bad, you're wrong because if you read on the ingredients of your toothpaste it has baking soda on it, is actually good and it makes your teeth whiter.
It's okay up to a certain amount and how long it stays on your teeth. Brusing your teeth with toothpaste that has a low percentage of it for 2 min is less damaging then putting a big amount of it on your teeth for 10 min straight combined with the acids from the lemon. But of course doing this only once or twice a month won't be that damaging if you do it carefully. People are overreacting haha, no one is going to do this every day, right?
I'm working on my DDS right now and I agree that it is a horrible idea to put lemon directly on your teeth like this. Just get a mouthguard from a sporting goods store and put the hydrogen peroxide mixture into it.

This should be titled "DIY getting rid of your tooth enamel" or "Quickest way to need dentures. DIY" or "DIY transparent teeth"
Just dip your toothbrush in peroxide & brush for a minute, whitens SAFELY. if you want to add baking soda only do that a couple of times a week with the peroxide. Peroxide can be used safely each day. Crest white strips are cheap and easy and work without ruining enamal and causing sensitivity.

I tried this method three years ago and it really gives results but it is very harsh. one of my tooth become very sensitive and 2 years after I still feel consequence from this method . my mother is a dentist and she freaked out when I told her what I did, because she was asking me about how and when my tooth begin to hurt. this method it's not something new actually if you do this you shouldn't practice more than 2 times in a month.

As a Dental Hygienist, I strongly recommend against this method, the acid in the lemon, and abrasive particles in the baking soda are eating away at your enamel, Which does not grow back. Repeated use of this method will not only damage your teeth, but make them much more vulnerable to cavities and sensitivity. Want to whiten without damaging? Composite resin veneers are a quick way to whiten teeth, and even make them more symmetrical. Find a doctor who uses a bonding method that doesn't require filing your teeth for resin application.

I would NOT recommend doing this!!! The reason why it makes your teeth white is because it eats your enamel away. I tried this (I wasn't thinking) and it made teeth VERY sensitive. It hurts to bite on anything. This is too much acid for your teeth to handle. All I'm saying is go ahead and do it if you really want to, it just wasn't worth it for me.

FashionLover5 Don't use it if you wear braces because when you'll take them off you'll notice a difference between the spots who were hidden by the braces and the ones where you used this method. I hope that i helped you !

this solution of teeth whitening is really bad for your teeth! do not try this. it's really common sense, yes it whitens your teeth, but the acidity of the lemon kills your enamel and so do the other ingredients. not trying to bash on your video but ask any dentist about this method guaranteed they'll tell you the same thing. under your enamel is another layer (I forget what it's called) that is yellow. the enamel protects that second layer. if you have very little enamel, no matter what you do, your teeth will stay yellow because of that second layer. do not do this to your teeth. I recommend plus whitening tooth gel. it's like $7-10 dollars and you can get your own mouth guards that will individually fit to your teeth for like 97 cents. they're the football mouth guards that players use. There's tons of tutorials on how to use them and the tooth whitening gel. common sense people! acid is definitely not good for teeth!!! never try these diy tutorials just because they're cheap and right at your home!
Don't do this! I tried this because of youtube vids like these and it made my teeth highly sensitive! Use only baking soda and tapwater to GENTLY brush your teeth for a bit. After that use coconut oil as a mouthwash and keep it for about 15min in your mouth. You will see immediate results ;) Plus it STRENGHTENS your teeth ♡

I am Hygienist in Maryland. Whitening could damage the enamel on the teeth surface, whitening could weaken your teeth. Whitening could cause sensitiveness to the teeth and if your teeth are already sensitive to hot,cold, sugar and etc. Whitening will make it more sensitive.. Its best to consult with your Dentist, Hygienist or Dental Assistant if you have any questions..
** Also be careful, lemons have acid which is harmful for your teeth.. Never use baking soda and peroxide on teeth for nothing. It damages the enamel..AND WHITENING COULD DAMAGE AND BURN YOUR GUMS..

I've only just started using it but " Arm and hammer" actually make a baking soda / peroxide/calcium toothpaste now. I'm not sure how concentrated the each part is. But I would be worried about putting peroxide in my mouth. I have the cream kind of peroxide you put in your hair not sure it's the same as the one in this video but I think I will see how the toothpaste goes.

Despite all the negative comments, I'd like to add that first and foremost the best results come with seeing your dentist regularly. Second, this is actually not a bad method...the only thing I'd change is NOT doing it 3 times a week. I started doing it once a month and found it gives great results. Before taking anyone's advice, consult a professional.
...Or you could brush your teeth every morning and night so that they dont need to be whitened? Plus if you do it too much they will just look fake and bleached.. Im not hating but just wanted to say.. :)

u can just use baking soda alone or hydrogen peroxide alone. Put the baking soda on ur toothbrush with ur toothpaste and brush ur teeth for 2 minutes. And for the hydrogen peroxide when u finished brushing ur teeth fill a bottle cover half way with peroxide fill the the rest of the cover with water and leave it in ur mouth for about 30 seconds. And there u go.
Lemons are horrible for your teeth though. They break down your enamel and weaken your teeth.

if you are talking about the teeth whitening they do at the dentist, then your comment is pointless because the whitening they do there is even more harmful and make your teeth etremely sensitive. I think they use bleach, but maybe I'm mixing something up, so don't quote me on that.

well, i really like your DIY great idea! But i just need to mention that lemon can cause erosion to the teeth and demineralise your enamel, it should not be used as a long term method for teeth whitening and it can also cause gum sensitivity- gingivitis (inflammation of the gum), so just keep that in mind

OK people listen up. I am a Dental Prosthetic Specialists which is for those who might not know, I make teeth for those who have none. The deal is ... use something else for the bite tray instead of the lemon. None of this is great for your teeth on a consistent basis, but the Lemon (high citric acid content ) will dissolve the enamel ( protective coating ) on your teeth and once its gone, you can't get it back and its all downhill from there. Chipping teeth, Caries disease ( cavities ) tooth loss etc.. Be smart. That's all
for some people lemon, orange and other that tipe of fruit really dammages teath. because it ruins layer of the teath and does it the other way - makes uour teath look and makes them yellow. so not all can use this.
you should use activated charcoal because it isnt bad for your teeth and i dont know about hydrogen peroxide but the acid of the lemon and the baking soda damages your teeth
I did this just just with lemons a few years ago because of this video. I regret so much and feel so stupid for listening to an influencer.
