- it’s finally time!!! all my thoughts on chain of iron by cassandra clare!
i know this video is absurdly long, but i had 6 hours, 6 HOURS, of raw footage and the majority of it was just me talking so this was as much as i could cut it down! but i hope you still enjoy watching this feature length film loll

So, about this whole "Matthew loves Cordelia 'storyline - while reading, I was going through Tumblr, I think, and stumbled upon a very interesting theory which I now accept as what must happen. Basically, it says that Matthew isn't REALLY in love with Cordelia but everything he feels for her is basically the manifestation of James' feelings for her that James couldn't feel cause stupid gracelet. So, basically, they were kind of manifested in Matthew's love for Cordelia through James and Matthew's parabatai bond and now, that the gracelet is broken and no more in control of James, Matthew will realize that he doesn't really love Cordelia. And let me just say - I will die if this doesn't happen. Because I feel like this 'two parabatai having feelings for the same person' plot was already used in the Infernal Devices and, tbh, don't want to see it again. Like - it was done perfectly in TID but that's enough. Also, this gives me hope that maybe Matthew doesn't die (?) and won't suffer because of James and Cordelia. Like it would make so much sense both story-wise and would be much better for him as a character. I just know that James and Cordelia are endgame and I don't want Matthew to suffer anymore, I want him to find happiness and I just don't see any other way for this to happen. (I really hope this was coherent

This is small but I really loved that Risa would just pretend that she couldnt speak english and then had little nicknames for the merry thieves - matthew being "the one from the circus" really cracked me up

I went through the 32 stages of grief reading chain of iron oh my god. Can I just say Alastair Carstairs is literally my favourite book character of al time now & thomastair melted my heart. Also yes I have been won over by jordelia I really did tear up over them.

I have only read The Infernal Devices before this and I just cannot imagine reading The Last Hours without that context, like...imagine not tearing up every time Jem is mentioned!? But anyways, Matthew Fairchild deserves a happy ending so much, but just not with Cordelia. I hope we get more Ariadne/Anna and Thomas/Alastair content in the next book, because I love them.

This book destroyed me. The most frustrating reading experience ever. My only plot theory is that the reason behind the all “The Carstairs owe the Herondales” is because James and/or Lucy are going to solve the deal that Cordelia made with Lilith

"not reading for the plot" literally a mood, i forgot there was one
To be honest, I think the ending could have been so much worse. Cordelia and Matthew are in Paris, yes, and that sucks, but I don't think Cordelia is going to fall in love with Matthew, because that would be so unrealistic and bad character development, given how much she loves James. It would only be a cheap "Tessa-Will-Jem" recycling, and I don't see how CC could do something coherent out of it.
My predictions (and hopes) are that Matthew is going to enjoy his time with Cordelia, and realize that the reason he loves her, is because she's the only one that seems to really get how he feels, and therefore realize he's not really in love with her. Then maybe a big part of the story is going to take place in Paris, because James, Lucie and the others will be going to Paris. When they reunite, James is going to think that Cordelia is in love with Matthew (because at some point she told him that she had been in love with SOMEONE), so he's not going to tell her anything not to "force" her to stay with him because they're married. And then we will have our 2 dummies, in love with each other, but each of them thinking the other is in love with someone else. But that's UNTIL Cordelia gets hurt, or James gets hurt, and then they will admit their feelings to each other.
I didn't mention the plot because honestly who gives a shit, but I thing they will manage something, they will succeed at breaking the oath Cordelia took and resurrect Jesse without everything going to shit and kill Belial for good.
Also, Matthew is the big question. Maybe he's going to realize he's not in love with Cordelia and will fall in love with someone else (mundane), explaining why he's not on the family tree, or he's going to die to save James, or he will be happily married to another shadow hunter (and is just not mentioned in the family tree). I don't think he's going to die though, because of his drinking problem: CC is going to make him recover, and will address alcohol recovery as a life-long struggle, so she can't kill him right away. Anyway, I want him FAR FROM CORDELIA but I want him happy, and I think it's going to be a problem *cry*.
I can't wait to come back here to see how wrong I was
I hope so much that matthew doesn't die. The fact he's not on the tree and doesn't have another love interest apart from cordelia. I want him to be happy so badly as he doesn't love himself and is such a good person. I think to kill him without him finding true happiness would be too tragic but why this gut feeling of matthew not making it 😐
I agree with your predictions but I also believe that Grace will be the reason Cordelia realises that James is in love with her . I’ve seen this happen is Sooooo many books especially YA . Also it will be a sort of redeeming arc for Grace or whatever .

I feel like Paris isn't going to be as great as they expected because they are quite literally running away from their problems. Paris won't fix them. It's probably not going to sober Matthew up, nor make Cordelia forget about James. However, I really do like their friendship. I'm looking forward to some wholesome moments between them in Paris. Either way, they'll both have to come to their senses and go back to London and TALK to people eventually.

I read chain of iron when it came out and till this day I still feel like this book is nothing but a dream. I can’t get over the ending, I love James so much and I was so mad when Math and Cordelia left even though they both are my favorite characters In TLH. Like what the hell? They literally left him without letting him explain and math and James are parabati. Matthew’s confession broke me. Poor Jamie deserves the world after all the pain he’s been through. Cassie barely allowed us to enjoy thomastair before breaking them up. Lucie amd Jesse are the cutest. Let’s also talk about Christopher and Grace because honestly I always liked Grace’s character and I believe that kit is the cutest. I am truly emotionally dead after this book, I no longer believe in love without pain. But thank you, Hannah I adore your Channel and you. And I am happy that you are currently happier than before. ❤️❤️

If Cordelia had waited 5 minutes before running out she would have gotten the full conversation and maybe even a confession from James, or if that was. too much to ask for if she hadn't been in such a rush I feel like they could have taken a later train to Paris and found out about Lucie and inevitably postponed the trip. If anybody thinks she is being dramatic you should have seen me reading clockwork Princess, losing my mind shouting and crying at a family function with everyone staring at me like I was mad and still to this day ask me why I was crying so much and my mom literally refusing to buy me more Cassandra Clare books because I was mourning the book for weeks and thought that they would make me depressed when the fact is that her books were the only things that stopped me from being actually depressed. when you said that you only care about james and cordelia, I really felt that. the plot is the extras and they are the main event.
I can't even begin to articulate my emotions over CoI. Like watching you read the last chapter, was literally like watching me react all over again, and all it did was stir up the emotions that i had safely compartmentalized and was ready to ignore until Chain of Thorns comes out!! "I've never wanted to see Will Herondale less in my entire life" -Hannah Azerang is a quote that will live in my head for the next year honestly. Just watching you scream/cry throughout this book was so relatable! I've been reading Cassies books since 2009 and I feel the exact same way you do because these books have also defined and shaped my life as a reader and just as an adult human in general!!

Did I revisit this vlog for the express reason of recapping Chain of Iron to prepare to read Chain of Thorns? You bet I did! The emotional turmoil!
This book emotionally TORTURED me. I thought Clockwork Prince wrecked me but this book, in my opinion, grabbed my soul and tore it to shreds.
I did have some issues with coi tbh. The thing that distressed me the most was how everyone keeps ignoring matthew’s addiction. There are several points in the story when characters (especially, lucie!) acknowledge his problems but dont do anything about it. I dont think they’re even trying and i feel like they keep excusing their ignorance with “you cant help those who dont wanna be help” which is not enough of a reason for inaction. And another unrealistic thing about this is that cordelia is the one who tries to help him instead of the people who’ve known and loved matthew his whole life. Math has known cordelia for like 4 months right? And why aren’t his childhood friends the ones who try for him? Another thing is that i HATED all these secrets that they keep from each other bc it causes the miscommunication which is the plot device that I absolutely hate. Cordelia and Lucie barely had any scenes together and the ones they did have were really underwhelming in my opinion🥺 i can say exactly the same about math and jamie.
Lack of jem was absolutely sickening.
Lack of will and tessa was a crime.
And will is the hottest dilf ever and im sure u all agree.
OK soo technically it's a terrible ending but it's actually great because they literally just need to talk !! Appart from Lucie's whole situation, we can almost be certain that they're gonna be fine because Cordelia wouldn't lead Matthew on and make him believe she loves him back, so we just need to wait and it's all going to be good (i'm trying to convince myself lol)

omg i relate to all of these reactions SO HARD. i honestly wasn't rooting for james/cordelia at first (i'm definitely rooting for fairstairs even though i know it won't happen, i love matthew too much), but i'd be happy with them together. they had so many cute moments together that i have no choice but to stan. also THANK YOU for talking about jesse and lucie, they were one of my favorite parts of the book and my vlog was just me screaming over them and matthew 😂this book was PAINFUL i need chain of thorns yesterday 😭
