Great to know. I just wish someone would have told me this a long time ago. I've been working my butt off trying to get Sergio Garcia-like shaft lean as someone with slow swing speed. Oh well, maybe all the work I've put in has gotten me to just about where I need to be.
Hi, Milo. I think the swing you are advocating and actually doing is great. And I call a golfer who swings with that method a "Holder". In this swing, the hands precede the club head at impact, and the club head does not overtake the hands until some time after impact. Lee Trevino and Dustin Johnson are typical examples of this type of swing. On the other hand, there are players who have a type of swing that I call a “Releaser,” in which the club head overtakes the hands at almost the same time as impact. This type of player can be called a "Natural Arm Rotator". Typical professionals are Al Geiberger and Ernie Els. I have a lot of respect for your lessons and it seems that the "Holder" method is becoming the mainstream of lessons these days. However, after watching various golfers for nearly 60 years, I can't come to a conclusion even at this point as to which is better, the "Holder" or the "Releaser." In the end, I believe that the golfer should adopt a swing that suits them.
My buddy, who takes lessons and is improving rapidly, showed me he was working on this very thing Saturday, that little shallowing at the transition, which he calls, "The Move!"
Hi can you turn door know to much. My miss is a low hook, with driver, and a pull left with irons.. but, if it's not left wow does it go far. Thanks for your tips. Love the spin videos.

This seems a function of how much lowering there is as the player transitions, as most/all pros lower as Milo shows in his other videos. If you lower but keep a reasonable club plane then you have to get the club handle in front of the body (and therefore use right hand wrist extension), or hit the ground way before the ball and dig out a huge divot.
Thanks for all the instructions. Is the right hand controlling the club in the backswing to create the hinge? And is the right hand controlling the club through impact?
I have watched a lot of your UA-cam videos including best golf training aids. What would be your advice on training aids with a lot of tech out there Example.. hanger vs hack motion or do they do the same thing. Hack motion just gives more data? Dewiz vs plane station
I’ve been working on staying “down” & “turning” through the down swing. It’s a work in progress. I’ve gone from 4* up with a 7 iron to 3* down. The swing you make in this video raises an important part of staying down & rotating through impact, & that is your head must turn towards the target some. Especially as we get older & less flexible. I’ve been working on the head turning in the down swing (slightly), & what a huge difference it has made!! Thanks for the great content, I hope to be at one of your clinics one day! 💪👍🏻🇺🇸
Fantastic info! A question - how is Rory able to hit the ball so high, yet still extremely far? Or, should it rather be, so far and yet extremely high :)
Milo...Ive been following your channel for quite some time now. Really enjoy the content. With that being said I also follow be better golf and know you have done some work with Dr Kwon on that channel. Do you feel your swing and pressure shifts are as Dr Kwon describes them...specifically in the wrist actions and pivot you describe in this video through impact. On camera it seems you pivot a little more balanced between your hips through impact than what Dr Kwon describes as being more on your left side through impact. I've seen your pressure traces/data on swing catalyst and it seems your pattern is optimal and to be what I would imagine Dr Kwon theory pressure traces/data to be but doesn't seem your as much on your lead at impact. Could be an illusion so just wanted to clarify. Thanks
I agree with Dr Kwon on the timing of pressure shifts but maybe differ a little on body mechanics so as to be able to control the face and path well. He tends to like more pelvic slide to shift pressure and I tend to like more flexion and rotation with less slide.
At what or any point do you have a weight shift, most people say it needs to be right before the top of the back swing. It appears that when you make your squat move and at impact your weight is somewhat neutral. What would you say your weight is at impact? 60% front, 40% back foot?
I don’t think of it as shifting weight. I think in terms of pressure and max pressure to the trail foot happens early around left arm parallel. Max pressure in the lead foot happens around left arm parallel in the downswing at around 80%
Milo, I am curious about your turn the knob move, could it be considered some ulnar deviation and maybe some trail hand pronation at or near the start of the downswing?
Hey Ed, I don't encourage the ulnar like some others do, but I do like to see some trail forearm supination. This should clarify: ua-cam.com/video/XjV_r3ZQM48/v-deo.html
Milo, thanks for the quick reply, my apology I should have said trail hand supination, when I make the move it seems like I automatically throw in some ulnar deviation, would this be an indication that I still have some throw rather than all tow?
Yeah what I heard that really translated to what I feel when I've been able to do this and usually it was just an accident that it happened, but it's the sensation of having to get out of the way so the club can come through. Typically I hit it fat or top it or sometimes miss it entirely when I try to do this it just results in terrible consistency but when it works its a truly almost religious experience especially when it happens on the course and everybody, my self included, is like what just happened.
So what speed does a golfer need to know when they need shaft lean? I guess shot shape? When we first met I had those really high shots but I also knew that was because I was flippy…not sure if it was because of speed.
@@MiloLinesGolf Is it a best practice to hold wrist angle till shaft is parallel to ground and hands are in line with ball during the downswing? Then wrists go soft and the release will happen naturally?
When you’re training it at low speed yes you’re holding it but when you add speed your completing your downswing and follow through and as your body’s fish hooks post impact the extension will be let out.
Milo and Ed, I have heard you both repeatedly refer to "turning the corner". Can you fully explain what that is, where the corner is located, and how to turn it?
The golf swing doesn’t stop at impact. As you continue up into a full finish you’ll turn the corner post impact and swing up and in(around the corner).
How? Lead side turns corner....lead leg push back? Milo, your head is turned so far forward in the downswing you must have third eye around your right ear.
My skull is pure concrete as for the life of me, this info doesn't seem to soak in, i can not seem to implement this into my swing, the balls go all over the place like a pelican with the runs. Makes one want to give this great game away. I know i can get better at golf ie work on 100yds in etc etc. My drives are 70% on the fairways but irons are pure dross/rubbish.
I'd have to see your swing currently to give you the best feedback and help you with your game. Have you looked at scheduling a lesson with me or joining our online academy? milolinesgolf.com
From like 5:30 to 5:32 i didnt see any chest or shoulder rotation. It was all arms goin up. Is that normal? I usually see chest rotation with hands out in front.
I was just chipping that one so my wind up was a little less than normal however in my swing my arm’s always continue winding as my body begins unwinding
How would someone make a good “Milo style” pivot but try to have less shaft lean (because they swing slower). It seems to me to reduce the lean would result in an inability to maintain good hip flexion and rotation because basically you’d chunk it every time.
@@MiloLinesGolf interesting. I feel like as soon as I flex into the ground to pivot I automatically want to extend the right wrist a lot just to be sure it stays back. I guess you are saying a slower sort of pivot motion I’ll drive less of that instinctually. So maybe there isn’t much to actively be done to try to match up the right wrist extension with the flexion in the pivot…
Mike, maybe changing your concept from hitting the ball to swinging the club. Remember, we’re collecting the ball as we swing thru impact not stopping and hitting down on the ball.
For the first time I understand the proper way and when to release the club head. Thank you.
You bet Dennis, I like this video, thanks for watching!
It is so hard to train myself to just turn and tow without adding any right hand throw in it. I love watching you demonstrate it slowly Milo. Thanks.
my swing too
Same here! I cast too much but I’m gonna work on Milo’s rotating drills to combat that I’m hoping!
Gotta slow it down, you got it!
Maybe changing your concept from hitting the ball to swinging the club🤷🏻♂️
It doesnt feel like "swinging" though it feels like "driving" the club shaft

Very concise - love it. Add the “nail” intention a la AJ Bonar and you get the attack angle and contact right as well - not too much more to it
Thanks and glad you enjoyed it!

You are correct there has to be some lowering to make up for the difference in trail wrist extension to make contact.

We doing another school in February in San Diego
Enjoyed the video thank you. So should the head remain slightly behind the ball at impact?
Generally yes
I take it the EXPLANER in the background at the end
is going to become the framework for some wind chimes?
Haha, we actually have done a video with it in the past.

Speed and attack angle
Mention the speed required for various clubs.

This is why 2D video can be so misleading. On Swing Catalyst Milo has way more the. 60% pressure on his lead side prior to and thru impact
Any thoughts on using the “precision impact “ trainer for trail wrist extension
Seems to work, I haven't personally tested it yet. Eric Cogorno seems to really like it.
I wish I could do this on every iron shot
Me too, and so does every one else that plays this game. This is certainly not a game of perfect.

This makes sense but when you have flipped your hands at it for years it isn't easy to stop doing that. This is the way. I shall master it
