    Undoubtedly the best mindset to have towards trophies, I've already done the same and I've been doing it for the last 3 months, ever since I got burnt out. This video is legendary and it speaks a lot of common truths behind trophies being a chore a lot of the time and hindering the experience of a game. But we all know that still won't stop us from earning the occasional platinum every now and then.

    wow, great arguments and points of view in this video. I basically agree with everything I've heard. I came to the same conclusion about not needing to platinum every game, but in my "system" I still force myself to get at least 50% of the trophies for each game. Sometimes we make mistakes in our choices or we are induced to play games by friends and acquaintances or even by youtube, but somehow that game caught our attention and had money invested. I really believe that 50% for those games we don't care that much is a good middle ground between not plating everything and also not leaving the game right at the beginning with that one damn bronze trophy.

    • @VaultBoySteve
      @VaultBoySteve  2 роки тому +1

      It's a good system! I remember doing something similar back on the 360 - tried to finish the story at least and aim for 500-750 Gamerscore, which was very doable!

    What’s bad for me, is I rarely ever play my Nintendo switch because it doesn’t have a reward system. I feel like a snob because most people I talk to about games don’t even think about trophies and I’m all like “yeah that was a fun plat”. And also, for 99% of worthy platinum trophies I feel like most people, including myself, heavily reference a guide so it’s not so much about true exploration and delving, but research and persistence/ignorance. Like you kinda said, this trophy mindset sometimes feels like a shackle on my wrist and can really ruin my gaming experience… oh well, something to work on

    Excellent Video. I will always have a look at the trophy overview before starting a game but I totally agree about not using a walkthrough on the first play through. Enjoyment from the game should always be the top priority. I tend to read all the reviews before I buy so I normally only end up with titles that I know I will enjoy. The one exception in recent times was probably Cyberpunk - I wanted to get the plat in one play through which meant having to spend my attribute points in certain areas rather than just doing my own thing. On a side note I’m glad the lurpak served you well during lockdown 😂

    This is so true. I’ve turned down so many games because of multiple play throughs, missables or just really complicated lists. Going through my backlog now I just pick out the top tier games that I know or think I’ll enjoy like bloodborne that’s been on my list for 7 years but I still need to check the guide because I’ve rarely played a game I can stomach a second play through off but I try to keep it as spoiler free as possible if and when I can

    Nice to see someone else that disabled trophy notifications. I pretty much quit hunting. Now I game on Xbox and playstation. Great video. I also noticed I found myself looking at guides first, literally studying the game before I even play it and most times I ended up ruining the experience because I had already decided to go for the plat. Trophy hunting in a way is an addictive hobby once you have 1 plat you want more 😆. What I do now is that I have a second account where I try and play new games for the experience and if after a couple of hours and I really enjoy the game, then I will go for the plat on my main account, otherwise I will just finish the game and not attempt the plat. In short main account to platinum games, second account for testing and enjoying the game. 😁

    I see trophy hunting as like a list of impressive and beloved games. I don't play a game on my main account unless I really like it regardless of difficulty as for new games I want to try multiplayer games and games I just don't care to plat, they stay on my second account where I don't care about any trophies so my ocd doesn't interfere with my fun and I can see trophy hunting as truly optional for the games I want to showcase and platinum for myself (because lets be real no one cares about anyones trophy list apart from there own) keeping trophy hunting truly fun and not something I'm constantly doing whilst never missing out on playing any game because of my completionist mentality by just sticking it on the second account with a completion percent of around 30 percent lol.

    This is how I've been playing since 2020, prior to that my account was created at the p age of 13 in 2010. I've had a run of games but full completion on games were so important to me, eventually it went on to the extent where I discovered telltale games when I returned from my 4 year gaming hiatus in 2017 and I've stumbled across these "cheap/easy" plats. So managed to get in total 20 plats between genres and my trophy list looked clean but it was a disgusting display of easy/mediocere/average games.
    Since that moment in March 2020 I retired from the perception of having a good display of completed games, and due to this I managed to plat games that were out of my league in my head. Never thought I'd plat Devil May Cry 1 & 3, Metal Gear Solid V, Dead By Daylight, Mortal Kombat 11, Red Dead Redemption 1, a series of Resident Evil games & also get some valuable plats from my backlog (black ops 1, dragonball raging blast 2). Now, ever since I quit.. I can look at my list and be proud and the list is getting larger. This is how gaming should be.

  • @crouchingotter

    I think the best advise for us all is "you do you".
    There are niches and sub-niches within the niche of Trophy Hunters. There's those competing for the top spot in the leaderboards, there's those who revel on only completeing the hardest of hard games because everything else is too easy to deserve a plat, there's people like me who are doing what they can to improve their completion percentage and there's people who take it all in their stride.
    Whatever type of Trophy Hunter you are, there's enough styles of approach to go with and no one has to feel they only fit into one of several tiny pigeon holes contained within a slightly bigger one, within the giant pigeonhole of "Gamer"

    • @VaultBoySteve
      @VaultBoySteve  2 роки тому

      Perfect! I was influenced by people striving for 100% or high completion rates, and I respect their dedication immensely, but I was trying to be something I wasn't by emulating that behaviour and it clearly wasn't for me.

    I think what I wanna do going forward, is a mash up of ideas.
    My way going forward is just going to be:
    - Turning trophy notifications off for my first time playing.
    - Look at the trophy lists after I'm finished playing for the first time.
    - Still collect platinums, but only if I wish to grind out all the requirements, largely depending on how much I like said game.
    So I'm almost still going actively for plats, I just won't be putting as much effort into them as I have been doing recently. Horizon Zero Dawn has made me want to make this change. I feel like the game isn't necessarily bad, more boring, pointless, a huge waste of time, the problem with gaming in general atm. I felt like after I finished the game and the plat, that the game was just a huge waste of time. Horizon Zero Dawn is unique, but super boring and too much effort for nothing in return.
    Hopefully it helps me love games again. Trophy hunting revived my love for a period of time, now it's become a bit of a hinderance.
