The protagonist in the song is trying his best to try not to show his true emotions. In the beginning, he's listing out all the things he feels and in the bridges also. The chorus is his attempt at to be masculine, and at the end of the chorus he says the following "Ain't that how its supposed to be? Though it isn't me" The whole song is a play on of the phrase "Boys will be Boys" also. Fun fact. This song holds a lot of backstory. Me and my boyfriend plan to play this on our wedding because we listened to this song all the time while on a call. I was in an abusive relationship and i fell in love with my current boyfriend in the middle. I introduced cavetown to him and he instantly loved this song. We listened to it everywhere. It helped us cope with not being able to be together too

Many people hear the last two lines and either go, "yeah girls have it easier because they can express emotion or whatever" or "uh no?? between sexism and periods it's actually way harder being a girl!" but that isn't what he meant.
He's talking to a ladybug (spotted sweater) and is saying "if ladybugs are [all] girls/how do you make kids together?" because of the name ladybug, and the idea that ladybugs are all ladies. Then he asks the ladybug, "[if all ladybugs are girls], what's it like in a female[-only] world/I bet it's so much better" ie with only one sex there wouldn't be problems like sexism, toxic masculinity (as explored in the rest of the song), etc.

edit 6/24/22: thank you all so much for your kind words and thoughts!! we’re going on 10 months on the 26th and there has been so many wonderful moments between us. we’ve talked so much about how he was definitely abused (physically, emotionally and psychologically) because of the way he was raised, especially since he’s Mexican. he’s not only been told that since he’s a man, but also because he’s Mexican that he’s supposed to be all these ways and such, he’s actually opened up quite a lot to my mother about his struggles and she’s helped him understand a lot about his mental health. our relationship is so much stronger now that we’ve talked about this kind of stuff
