Great video, I have installed dozens of systems and my only advice is instead of purchasing 100ft extra video/power cables with the fat head bnc connectors on them purchase 500ft spool of RG6+Power Siamese Cable integrated. You can hardwire it all together in the end plus it has no connectors obstructing the entry holes, much easier you can get a 500 ft spool for like 60$ online. Cheaper and easier, just get a few 12V female connectors for the end of the power cords and some rg6 cable end connectors/bnc connectors. You can buy them also online for like 5 or 10$ for 50. Save money and you will have all this extra to do additional cameras or other installations. Great camera placement btw to get all corners of the residence.
This is, hands down, one of the best security camera system installation videos I have seen yet and I've been looking at similar videos for over a year. I'm actually still researching my camera/system options. The only one thing that would have made this video better, is if we could have seen what your neighbor was seeing (from her point of view) as you fed the fishline up to the attic & when the cable ends were being fed up to her. None the less, I THANK YOU for taking the time to make this video. You & your neighbor are awesome!
If you just close your eyes and listen it doesn't take much imagination for this story to go a whole other way. I know a couple folks have mentioned as much but, I concur. Sorry Chris...Jen is the star on this one, buddy. Far as I'm concerned, she earned her Oscar simply flipping that insulation back. Holy moly!
Jen is awesome running around the attic up there like that. Laying direcly on itchy insulation! badass. It probably helps to weigh only 90 pounds I bet.
3 daughters, 6 cameras, good ratio! I was wondering whether to get the Costco Lorex system myself. In California we don't have so much insulation in attic so easier install. Thanks for showing us how its done!
Very nice setup, she is much more protected than before. That Jen is a big help plus now she understands how everything is installed and ran. I think it's also important to video every car and person going past the house out on the street.
Awesome setup, only thing I would add is a camera on the front door at head height. The camera at the front door is easily avoidable if you walk to the door via the grass with your hoodie up, keeping the back of your head to it. If an intruder sees a camera looking directly at their face they most likely won't risk it.
Should make another video applying 3m security film to all those lower windows. Tying up the garage door emergency release handle with a zip tie. Putting 3in screws in the strike plates on the doors. Or thorny Rose's around the electric meter. Good video . I enjoyed the use of mutable camera angles while doing the install. Look forward to seeing your next video.
Chris, after viewing your ZMODO video years ago, I installed my own. Couple of lessons I learned recently when some rotten teenagers ended up at our house for a party. They messed with the system. Lesson 1: Lock up the DVR. In fact, hide it and lock it. Lesson 2: Cameras that can be reached by standing on fence (there's one in the video) can be dorked with by determined teenagers. Put it up higher on the edge. Lesson 3: Do not host teenage parties. Thanks.
+Chris Heider I used one of those metal utility boxes (similar to circuit breaker boxes) and put a lock on it. I think Jen could probably put a lock on the cabinet as a "quick fix." Anything to make it difficult for a burglar to take the recorder. ~Steve
+Chris Heider You're right. I think I read somewhere the "average" thief spends less than 5 minutes and usually heads right to the bedroom (where the jewelry is). Like you, I have cameras, signs, safes, alarms. I like to over-do it when it comes to security and realized my dvr was too accessible during that party. ~Steve
I would add a home security system, with door contacts on the exterior doors you will have notification anytime a door opens. You can also set up the ground level windows with contacts for notification as well.
Push rods work so much better. Wire pullers are for conduit. And here lately I’ve replaced several Lorex systems with our pro systems. They don’t last long. Good luck.
..."I'm pulling on it',..."yeah, I can feel it". There are so many unintended, salacious remarks in this video, that I lost my focus of what I was actually watching. I was laughing too hard ;o)
Because your cameras are low down wouldn't someone be able to use a stick and break it .or climb up on another person and cover with black out fabric . They would clearly be masked . If higher up they would need ladders . In UK we have to put higher up
It appears Jen would not be interested in crawling about in my attic, so I'm running the wires through the basement then up under the vinyl siding. I have a full basement. If I had to crawl I would do it in the attic. I suggest a 12 gauge pump action shot gun loaded with magnum 00 buck rounds to compliment the system. Eliminate the problem.
👍You're a fine neighbor. After 17 yrs being the "good neighbor" I had to scale back as one can get taken advantage of a bit too often. I so need to upgrade my security....maybe something in a .308😂
LOL I know what you mean. Some people like to think I’m a free contractor. And they justify it with “Hey, you need content and can make a video!” Like they’re doing me a favor.
Just word of advise, go hardwired cameras and avoid wireless models, most especially those that are unencrypted otherwise I can intercept the signal and see everything it sees. Any professional burgular is going to have a Wireless/Bluetooth jammer which blocks the frequency used by these cameras essentially making them useless.
Thanks for the excellent video Chris, I have a question . What is the process like exporting the video when needed. Does it use a standard video format that plays well with other software?
Does Lorex have software to run their DVR/NVR software directly on your main computer monitor or do you have to have an independent standalone monitor for the DVR/NVR? Basically I have 2 monitors for my home office setup and I would like to use my second monitor for work purposes such as email and calculations when needed, but when not needed have my security cameras up and running. HandyDadTV ok thank you very much.I installed mine and scanned the code but it wasn’t working so I was wondering what the issue was.I got it from someone and he doesn’t have all the manuals.
A job well done to Chris and yhe young lady. I was surprised to see the lady in the attic. U don't see a lady in the attic and I understand, me too. lol. Does that system have a 2 way audio ? How did u ordered the 100 foot wires ?
Nice vid however I would've advised an NVR with Poe cameras... Captures the vid and audio from one cable and cuts out having to monitor and troubleshoot 2 connectors etc...
Nice video..I found this while doing some research for my system. This is not a Power Over Ethernet (POE) system, so I was wondering how you powered the cameras, does the power brick for the dvr also power the cameras? Just a couple points, the camera resolution is important..those costco lorex units don't always have the best resolution, the distance of those cameras from points of entry in the back yard will record the intrusion but not facial features and the dvr location is too accessible and not secure..easily removed by the intruders.
+Michael Chong That system came with two power supplies: one for the DVR and one for all the cameras. One of them died after a year and she replaced them both with a single power supply.
that "thank you chris," at the end, was of the sympathetic variant that is really happy that a service was performed for her, but also to let you know that you are just friends and will never be getting any. Juuuust saying.
Chris, I have this same kit. Question each camera has a 110v plug-in. So it’s a 8 camera system. Are you having to plug in each camera into a 110 plug? So I have to have 8 110 v plugs by my DVR? That seem like too much and I would have to use a power strip. Or does just one bring power in for all cameras??
I hate using all those “wall wart” power supplies for each camera! So I had Jen buy a 12V 10-amp power supply to power all the cameras and the DVR. The only risk is this becomes a single point of failure. If it dies, everything shuts off. But I prefer the simplicity.
All that hard work.... You should had purchased an IP system, which would had made the installation so much easier. The next time you upgrade and you will, you will have to run new cable/cat%e. I wished he talked you into an IP system, much better picture, front end much easier, and the mobile app is 100X better.
Just bought this at Costco in Canada. What kind of 100ft extension cables did you get for this install? Lorex only sells 250 ft ones that they say are compatible?
Hey Chris and Jen, great job! Chris any difference between the Lorex or Swann brands, both available at Costco. And is there a monthly fee for the internet monitoring?
I'm hoping you are still around!!! My question is does it record in at least 30fps? I plan to get a system but need recording at 30fps at the 1080. I stream a kitten cam and want to make sure they won't be blurry when they have the zoomies!!
I don’t know any surveillance system that records 30 FPS. And you don’t need it. It would bloat your recordings and your hard drive would have less capacity. These aren’t home movies. You don’t need 30 frames to see what’s going on.
First, she's smoking hot. Second, you're pretty hard on houses. Third wrap electrical tape around all your connections so that you don't pull the connections apart when running wires. Third, check each camera after each installation.
+Chris Heider can you please post a screen video capture of the camera's quality? I am looking to buy this model in a few days. I really need to see them. Also remember to post the video on youtube in 1080p please
+Chris Heider ok, thank you very much. When will you be upgrading your system? Also for more channel attention, I would suggest making more Ikea furniture videos and also find how to put ads on your videos to make some money.

I like the lorex camera but I hate the DVR box as you can only connect to the internet via the ethernet cable and the system is no where near my internet modem to do so.... ugh
Try a power line Ethernet bridge.
very useful video, thanks...Jen should be a little more grateful to the dude.....
I TOTALLY AGREE. IN ACTUALITY, I FELT SHE KIND OF USED HIM
Would love to see a 5 year update
Jen recently moved but the system was still working when she left.
Very well detailed. Great video.
cool need to get this! thank you for sharing!!!!!!
i hate port forwarding , dns services and trying to figure out ports.. why cant this be easy!
Your pushing it but in the wrong channel
I’m pulling it
I feel it.
Just try listening to this
Does the footage get sent to a cloud? If not, the theif can just smash or take the drv camera box, shouldn't it be hidden?
Nothing is stored in the cloud with a system like this. So yes, it can be stolen and should be hidden in the house. Jen’s is in a cabinet.
My dude better be smashing that
He was happy to set it up and hack into it anytime he wants
2:32 “That’s alright. You’ll see the snake.” Boy, if I had a nickel for every time I said that to a girl I’d be a rich man.
