hi bud,,i like to use 61lb Berkley Whiplash braid would that be ok on the both spools you get with the PENN TIDAL XT LONG CAST 8000 ? as i only use that braid looks a lovely real thanks for sharing.
Hi Jansen, this is a brave one, anglers are so passionate about reels. 😂 I was considering a couple of Fathoms and now you've posted this. I think fixed spools are very practical but why do those multipliers look so good, until they turn into a birds nest 🤔 Seasonal greetings all.
Hi Paul, I honestly believe that fixed spool reels are now on par with multipliers. The technology has been progressing nicely for a while and multipliers have been standing still. I’d reconsider the Fathoms and go for Tidal XT’s, or if you want to push the boat out, Shimano Power Aero’s.
Just bought a Penn Tidal XT 8000 .watched your video and done everything you did to get started. Went to Hythe last night First 3 casts ok . Then reeled in so i thought. no line was coming in the spool was turning but when i looked down the line had gone underneath the spool wrapped round the shaft ,So i had to go back to my Multiplier .Any suggestions would be appreciated
I have only used fixed spool for 30 somthing years now , I prefer rear drag or clutch , Question Are there many rear clutch /drag fixed spool ,sea reels on the market , and is there a reason why they are mostly fromt clutch
Read drag fixed spools aren’t practical for use with heavier leads. The clutch probably wouldn’t lock down enough to hold the force of a cast with a heavy lead on a powerful rod.
hello.. I'm hesitating between the 8000 model and the 7000 model.. except for the line capacity and the weight, is there another advantage knowing that I fish in the Mediterranean? thanks for the video.
It does come down to personal preference as the two reels are similar, but I’d go for the Penn. The build quality and general performance seems a little better. Jansen
To people who fish with multi, a big fixed reels is going to hurt you, you wind with your wrist, with a multi, fixed use your whole arm.. bait clip not needed, they were never intended to use to wrap your leader on at end of days fishing, they were used in course fishing, feeder fishing etc where line could be clipped to get to same distance each time, I would never use a fixed , it feels totally alien with five oz leads and above.
That’s the biggest load of crap I’ve ever had the displeasure of unfortunately reading. I used to fish with multipliers all the time, now I’m fully onto fixed spools with mono and braid, and honestly love it. Took some time to get used to, and yes, you can use your wrist OR your arm reeling in. I can fish with 5, 6 and even 7ozs + bait comfortably without any issues.
@@paulhiggins6024 not when you have coffee grinders that are lighter than said multis nowadays. Each to their own but the original comment was honestly silly lol
Honestly think top end fixed spool is superior nowadays. Tech with tournament fixed spools has gone stratospheric whereas multis has not. Just my opinion.

Really not sure sure how that might’ve happened, there should be a line guard in place that prevents the line from doing that?
Possibly you over loaded the spool, thats the usual problem with fixed spools
I have put a new Leader on and will try it on the field Colin@@colinbrette4387
So its the main chassis aluminium and not alot of plastic like the surfblasters?? Didnt really described the main chassis and what its made of.
Is it a manual bale arm , or engages when turning the handle . Cheers.
Manual on this one

45mm lang?
what brand nylon did you use the orange one
Asso Ultracast, fantastic line for fixed spool reels- www.veals.co.uk/product/asso-ultra-cast-orange/?aff=27

The 7000 model could be better for you as it’s slightly smaller and lighter and would be better for light lines
@@VealsMailOrder2898Thanks for the quick response and the valuable advice.
Bonjour
Between this and the Shimano ultegra xr, which one is better?

Horses for courses. A multi feels far more balanced and neat than a mangle ever will.@@the_sandancer

The rotor had way to much flex for me . Shame as everything else was top quality
