Having a follow-up from the many races point of view sounds very interesting, if you have the inspiration for it. Humanity is a tad bit too glorified in my taste as if there'd be no bad eggs amongst us living in such a harsh world, but that's fine. That speech could apply to the Void humans only. I always enjoy the fantasy settings in these kind of stories instead of solely-sci-fi, but massive space empires are also fun. You nicely combined the 2!
They just left? No retribution? No purging of xeno scum? * Sad Imperium of Man noises * Thanks for finding and narrating another HFY story. For the Algorithm! For the Author! For the Narrator! For the Beard! May It Regrow Quickly!
I've heard this one before. Would love to see more of this universe. But just if/when the other races reach the stars, but individual humans trying to reconnect and/or teach with these guys.
Something tells me that that particular group, apart from their respective races, would be worthy of going on with the humans as ambassadors. But it makes one consider if it is better to allow the few who are worthy to leave, making the rest a cesspit that never learns, or if it is better for those few to have to stay and maybe separate more wheat from the chaff.
These adventurers need to return to the lands of their kinfolk to tell them of what happened. It might be the beginning of a new way of life for elves, dwarves, orcs and beastfolk. It may not, change is hard, still I'd have to hope they'd try.
Since the departing humans did take non-human/demi-human kin with them, I think it is better that the party stayed to spread the word to the other races.
@@bubicus they took those that were wed to humans or family of humans. the only ones that were worthy, because they would have been more human than the rest, and experienced much of the same as their human family. 1:30
I mean all of that is more then enough to convince me to leave. Especially if it means a far far better life, but my only question is I’m gonna have to figure out how this unknown technology works and rebuild my life.
To understand the inner workings of technology might take a lifetime, but knowing how to make it work ‘well enough’ can honestly take a few weeks. If space tech is anything like present tech in our mundane lives, it will be designed for practicality and ease of use. A culture shock to be sure, but seeing as our space brothers/sisters want us back so bad, we will likely learn fast for them as much as they will teach well for us. Hope the planet of other races join us. Our past is filled with all the things these races have done to us. If we can grow beyond it, so can they.
Yeah using and building are two different things. Besides humans would probably have an indoctrinating machine that could give them base level education with a press of a button.
aye brother! let not the filthy xeno live but one second for there transgretions against the mighty terran dominion (Story related) for the god-emperor wills it against those who harmed his children! Humanity's true form: booming down from the sky "Xeno filth who harmed the emperor's children, it has been decided for your actions against his children you must be purged and the world of Alaris sadly destroyed....... on this, all things are equal and in the name of the god-emperor we condemn this world to oblivion" sounds of Exterminatus are all that the Elves, the drawf, the snakeman and the beastman heard before.......... nothing. Edit: this is the Alternate ending the travellers faced when they got to the top of the mountain.
worst part about this is that mythological peoples like elves, dwarves, orcs, ogres, etc. are made to represent the worst parts of humans and what we've done. e.g. elves => arrogance dwarves => greed etc.
They must of learned forgiveness very well, given that kind of power and those greivences a "blow them all to hell before leaving" policy would seem in order possibly with a "genocide of whoever was the worst" capper. Or at least a we leave and give this world to you but know everything else off this rock is ours and we will destroy anyone who ever encroaches policy. Man , being the better person sometimes sucks.
It can be, but to the races of that world, humanity obliterated their egos with that mercy after breaking down each of their respective faults and or atrocities. They can whine and complain or even try to downplay humans, but they will never have the stars humanity now rules that shine over their world. In short, they got irreparably humbled on a galactic level, and they can never live that down.
Not too bad, but the fact the adventurers were all shocked at the nasty things did seem to imply that it's hashtag not-all™ and all that. And I find it hard to believe humanity out of any race is 100% moral and perfect, either. Still, for the story's conceit it works well enough, and the story was fairly enjoyable. Just seems like a bit over the top at times which kind of brings me out of it. And besides... how long 'til humans wind up coming back again because it's basically a Tabletop RPG in real life? XD Admit it, so many of us geeks would think long and hard about visiting it, at least. ...Albeit with assault rifles and hand grenades and maybe a Davy Crockett on standby.
From across the pond: thus the British Empire did to their ungrateful colonies. Especially those damned Americans! From the USA: oh really? We should have left you to the Krauts then? After some negotiations: at least we're not French.
Go to your doom fools ! Go Embrace Our Father for good. Go! But remember, you are free to do so, because We keep vigil! You can play at being civilised, because We Are Not! You can pretend to mercy, because We do not know what that is. You can send free aid, because We work to make it possible. Nighty night eternal children, it has NOT been nice knowing you. They weren't worth the material cost of retribution.
I know right. The humans could have, and should have fucking glassed them all from orbit.

How benevolent to not just use a judicious amount of orbital bombardment
I think that was the point at the end. "We could end you all. But we're above that. Show us that you're better then that as well."
One hell of a crossover episode

You want this rock? You can have it. But I will be taking all the other rocks. So finders keepers suckers!
Honestly I wouldn't have been so forgiving and likely would have returned to that world with a full exterminatus fleet.

For the imperium of man
worst part about this is that mythological peoples like elves, dwarves, orcs, ogres, etc. are made to represent the worst parts of humans and what we've done.
e.g.
elves => arrogance
dwarves => greed
etc.
if you add them all together you would basicly have the perfect representation of human behaviour
perhaps i should write a story where we all just get along.
yeah.... i'll do that
seems like an almost war hammer fantasy inspired world... aside from the fact the orcs can actually feel bad for there actions
I love the passion you give to stories

It would be interesting to know what enemy caused humankind to even temporarily leave the stars.
i knew something was wrong when it was fantasy themed and the title only said "science fiction" and not fantasy XD.
