What a couple all time fun days. By the time they came back the magic was all but gone. From the high peaks, indeed it was down hill from here, but while it lasted, man
In my humble opinion, best version EVER. Phil is absolutely killing and Brent is ridiculous in his support (listen one time just focused on his playing... Crazy). Drums are completely in synch with just enough cowbell 😜. And Bob, always second fiddle but his filling is great here. If you play this for a non head and the say "I don't get it" then they never will and don't try anymore. 😊 🌺🌺N2🔥🔥
Definitely my favorite Scarlet Fire. I sliced out some ringtones and have been using them for years. Current one starts at 8:30. Sometimes I just let those spam calls ring out until voicemail finally ends the jam…
This was one of the first shows with Rosebud, Irwin's third custom Jerry guitar. The MIDI inputs are brought into effect big time. The "trumpets of Gabriel" sucker punch switch into Fire after the solo out of Scarlet secures this as one for the ages, just as good as Cornell '77 but with chrome plated wings. Weir considers this their best tour. Jerry had been on a vegan diet after his coma and was just slowly getting back into smack. And yes I was there, on about 2 hits of mopper. The auric waves pouring off the stage were astonishing. Jerry had been busted in Canada previously so he had to cross back into Michigan to sleep between shows.
@@chrisdonegan2566 word. At @7:06 those are the trumpets of Gabriel. It's like a delay, an octave, and a phaser all in one. The old fogeys who swear by Cornell got nothing on this jam.
Don't mean to brag. I was at this show. My cuz and I ditched school and headed cross the border from Detroit for both nights. Slept at the YMCA. Fuckin best!
This isn't just a version of Scarlet > Fire. It's a celebration of Scarlet > Fire, channeling the whole energy of Copps Coliseum that night and feeding it back in hyperdrive. Jerry was surely in direct contact with the higher power that night, totally present and in a place of pure love and joy. Wow!
I remember this like it was yesterday. I came across from Buffalo area, saw all 4 times they played there. Stayed at city motor in lodge motel. The place was a wonderful zoo until the circus left town.
only went for this run but yeah it was nice. from no hassles outside and way laidback entry to the guy on the pa in front of the building relaying messages for lost folks and stuff. was really refreshing after so many years being the focus of a lot of eyes in the lot. so many skipped these shows because of the border crossing and they regretted it. def the best scarlet>fire i ever caught. that along with the somewhat comical attempt to play hey jude in it's entirety for the first time since '69 made this show one of the best run of shows i saw.
First show . Dry as hell. Border check all but shook us upside down . Rental car. Girl I brought had no ID. VW busses cruising through sparking up upon exit lol They let us go ! Took over the city and what a show to start a journey of my life. Many east coast drifting summer tours after that . Great part of my life . This Set kicked it off !

The Jam connecting Scarlet to Fire is easily one of their finest moments, perhaps the best of the Brent era. It's perfect.
Garcia with newly received "Rosebud" & Phil killing it with his new Ken Smith bass..they boys were bringing it !

I almost wore this cassette tape out back in the day.....SO GOOD!

You can tell how much fun he was having playing with the MIDI
What are the trumpets of Gabriel?

I was there and sat waaaaaayyyy across from the stage. Like watching ants play...but sounded awesome.
Went to 3 shows on this tour including this 1. Some of the best shows I saw for sure!!!
I hitchhiked from Peterborough Ontario with a guy I had a big crush on. The best!
Our very lucid Captain @ the helm of his fully operational Star Cruiser

Iwt. God bless the people of Canada. What a two days. It's a long story lol. Thanks for posting. Well done!
I remember having been to 30-ish shows, 4 scarlet's, NO fire . Until this epic and only Fire for me . It was worth the wait !!!!
According to Dead Base this version of Scarlet-Fire is in the top 4
Def
Best scarlet Horton field house 78 and best fire Hampton coliseum 88
Might be the very best if we are taking both legit
Likely the best in combo
Definitely my favorite!
remember getting this bootleg and was blown away by the transition from scarlet to fire
I really enjoyed Copps when I was there.
