PRobably my favorite Yankees team, just because of how much fun they were to watch. The walk off pies, the Charisma that team had. I don't think I've seen is on another Yankees team before or sense. Probably the only Yankee team I remember that had a swagger about them.
Literal chills watching this video. That AJ pie to the face for a walk off win was pure gold. That really added one of those non tangibles to this already stacked team. I'd make this current Yankee team watch this video everyday before a game to pump them up. That we feel like we can't lose mentality is what drove that 09 team to win it all.
The year when the Yankees last won the World Series (before not winning anymore). At old Yankee Stadium, Yankees had 26 WS champions. At New Yankee Stadium, Yankees only had 1 WS Champion. Now I'm waiting for Yankees to win the 2nd WS Champions at New Yankee Stadium

so i took my 3 nephews to the game yesterday for my and their first old timers day. Now i sat next to a very nice son and mother who spoke how many games they had gone together. S/o to that mom for being a legend. But i was blown away at the age gap from me and him where all he knows is the 09 yankees while my old ass was blessed with the 98,99, 00 teams as growing up in a cuban household baseball was life especially the yankees. Like i’ve been fortunate to grow up to the 90’s and then early 00’s teams but shiit we really need to get on a title run again bc this wild we haven’t been back to the ship since 09. That’s my spiel but let’s go yankees and we will find a way to prevail🙏🙏🙏 god bless y’all
Matsui was the most important hitter in that lineup. He drove in the runners Arod left on during the regular season. Yes Arod had his one great postseason in 09. But matsui won the WS MVP.
My fav Yankees Team! They were unstoppable that year when it came to walk off wins. I remember Alfredo Aceves had a crap ton of wins out of the pen. Maybe 10 or more wins out of the pen.
When you look back at that team you realize just how much better they were than any of the Yankee rosters over the last decade plus and it's easy to see why the Yankees haven't sniffed a World Series in so long.
*Yanks were underdogs. Phils were picked to CRUSH Yanks. *Arod’s bat finally woke up in the playoffs. Yanks got men on base and drove them in like we did during the 90s playoffs. The ‘09 Batting order hit from top to bottom. Our pitching was tight and we closed the game in the 8-9th inning. Everyone contributed to a Great WS win.
The New York Yankees were once the evil empire, the most powerful team in history. The 2009 New York Yankees have become history, and it will be difficult to surpass the grand occasion of that year in the future.
Watching this just proves how much that team had. How everyone contributed. Great team. Wish some of that would rub off on the current team. Maybe they need to bring back the shaving cream pie to the face!?
