- This is Shannon Noll performing Angels Brought Me Here, live on Australian Idol in 2003. His version of the song is not exactly the same as the words in Guy Sebastian's winner's single.
Listen carefully between 3.33 - 3.43 in this clip, and you'll hear that Shannon's version has extra words added to it. The extra words subtly change the meaning, making it a better love song than the other version.
Shannon did record this song, but it can't be purchased now.
His recording was distributed in a bonus disc that came with the Limited Edition version of Shannon's That's What I'm talking About album.
The official video clip of Shannon singing the recorded song was included twice in his DVD, Shannon Noll Up Close, once as the clip, and another time with audio commentary by Shannon on the making of the clip.
Shannon is the only first Idol contestant that singing with his deep heart and his style so humble from the first audition i saw... Proud to him! 🎉

I know they would have had this song ready before the competition had even started, but with no disrespect to Guy, I’d love to see him sing a song in Shannon’s preferred genre.
For example, What About Me will never be sung and performed as well as Shannon Noll has.

Looking back at this , a different song could have had a different result. Country pop would have worked here.
The song was chosen before top 3 (or even top 4). Unfortunately, Shannon got the bad luck of this. ABMH fit other top 4 (It fit Rob Mills too).
Grad that they change the winner single to different songs in later seasons.
I feel like guy is more suited to this song but I absolutely love Shannon's voice for most songs

He's not a good singer. If they'd wanted him to succeed, they would have made it happen. Look at One Direction. None of them passed individual auditions and they came about fourth as a group, because it was painful to listen to them sing out of tune

@AJB3I think after getting voted against the winner then asked to perform the same song that could have been his number 1 plus thinking oh no I got voted out by Australia would give you a bit of performance anxiety. He should have won hands down instead of fried hair who couldn’t hit a hard note if he was writing home from war. Now he is sadly judging people on TV 🤭

He didn't sing 'Guy's song' you dick, this was the song written for the winner which subsequently was Guy. They both sang it then Australia voted, which was completely rigged because the song suited Guy to a tee and obviously didn't suit Shannon's voice at all.

at the time I agreed with you, Shannon was an Australian sound and his raspy voice was awesome for me Guy also had a great voice but that warbling vocal gymnastics put me off. but as with any reality TV show the producers manipulate things to suit themselves and wrote a song for guy. Poor Shannon sounds terrible singing this but he has had a good career. Guy has evolved more and is truly world class now so in the end the stronger contender did win.
